My wife thinks he's evil - she thinks he is a closet carnivore and only ever refers to him as devil beatle.

She needs to lay off the frangelico.

General discussion / Re: Dissident theory... Strabane
December 16, 2009, 04:10:00 PM
Just a question fox, why do you feel Strabane has a higher amount of disillusioned republicans than any other northern town with a predominately catholic population?

Personally I blame the fact that McColgan's pies don't have enough meat in them for all/ any of Strabane's problems.

This was 'nt meant to be a  re- telling of historical events. The angle that moved McQueen to the point where he felt he had to do something, was that these men were using their bodies as the last line of defence in the face of such brutality and humiliation. He was'nt at all interested in the politics of the situation, his fascination was with the fact that these young men believed in something to the extent that they were willing to lay down their lives fo it,not just in word ,but in deed.

GAA Discussion / Re: Eugene McGee's internet choices
December 16, 2009, 01:39:05 PM
Some very good posts here that I'm sure McGee will be delighted to read. Before joining this board, I read it almost daily for about two years ,and was, more often than not, impressed by the standard of debate found here. This particular article is, in my opinion ,lazy journalism.McGee only looks at one side of the argument ,the side that suits his agenda on a day when he can find little else to fill his coulmn inches.
Newton's third law states that "every action has an equal and opposite reaction",to me, the internet kind of mirrors this in that every argument will have a counter argument every bit as strong.
On the matter of Hoganstand, surely he's taking the piss?

Pascal's Wager:

It makes more sense to believe in God than to not believe. If you believe, and God exists, you will be rewarded in the afterlife. If you do not believe, and He exists, you will be punished for your disbelief. If He does not exist, you have lost nothing either way.

Betting men whould choose the former. However,

How should you bet? Regardless of any evidence for or against the existence of God, Pascal argued that failure to accept God's existence risks losing everything with no payoff on any count. The best bet, then, is to accept the existence of God. There have been several objections to the wager: that a person cannot simply will himself to believe something that is evidently false to him; that the wager would apply as much to belief in the wrong God as it would to disbelief in all gods, leaving the the believer in any particular god in the same situation as the atheist or agnostic; that God would not reward belief in him based solely on hedging one's bets; and so on.

All very well and good O Neill, but as the brother of god surely Pascal's views are not impartial.

One of the most powerful films I've ever seen - and Steve McQueen's directorial debut. Some piece of work for an Englishman with no previous knowledge of the subject matter.

Same when the Norn Iron fans were assaulted in an Irish bar in Slovakia. Makes you wonder.

Flicked over to the Rangers game earlier there, and thought I heard the words "Bobby Sands" being sung in a song by one set of the supporters. Not 100% though on that. What song would or could they be singing?

Their hilarious "could ye go a chicken supper Bobby Sands" probably. >:(

Mulled wine is wrong!and boggin'.if it was nice we'd be drinking it all year round.
Just back in from the shops loaded with drink.Bought some nice Brunello di Montalcino,Masi Campofiorin and Tignanello - it's been a while since I splashed out on nice wines.A bottle of Frangelico jumped into the wife's basket, though what she plans to do with it I don't know.Hendrick's gin ,Grey Goose and Morgan's spiced were the choices I went for.We got some Goslings dark rum also - class with ginger beer and a twist of lime(Dark and Stormy).

I've decided that my post dinner tipple for Christmas day is ......Stardust- Vanilla vodka and champagne in shots.Followed by turbo shandy - half bottle of stella and half a bottle of smirnoff ice.....I know ,I know I'm a dorty bastid.

I'd like to just take this opportunity to apologise for any of my offensive posts that you may happen to come across over the festive period,as I will be quite squiffy for a sizeable chunk of the holidays.
