There is "getting breaks" and getting breaks, but that was beyond anything you'd see in A & E for a year!! Jesus i'd be sick, i think there has to be a replay surely? Can it be done though is the question.

I'm afraid Croke Park have their smoking gun in terms of keeping people off the pitch, and they will use that to gloss over the real story here. The umpires have had an easy life up to now, but its time to get rid of them. Joe Sheridan on the radio they didn't even ask him did he throw the thing in.....

The only thing he could do really.

Longford were never nobodies, people should have more respect, even as a Mayo fan tonight we have to realise that Longford are a fine side who deserved their win. Mayo's problems are Mayo's problems, credit where its due to a proud football county.

They have to walk, what is going on when McGarrity and T Mort are mainstays all year then not even brought in in a fight. Sad sad day. I'm in shock, to be honest, the lads try their best but what else is needed? Are Mayo deluding themselves. Are we at at Longford's level now, no disrespect but i mean, 12-20th teams in the country?

Anyone else think Tohill has lost himself a key player for the Compromise Rules this year. If i was Galvin i certainly wouldn't be playing for him, even if it is for your country.

I agree about Harte coming into offer a bit of life to the midfield, i watched him when he came in against Kildare recently and he wrecked the heads of the Kildare midfield, gave Mayo a bit of impetus and helped them get back into the game.
Any chance of handing Andy Moran the captaincy by the way?

IolarCoisCuain, add the minor defeat to  Tyrone to that list in the replay. I honestly think this could be a major problem for Mayo. If the players aren't up for it, if its a wet miserable day like when Longford scared the life out of Kerry, then i honestly foresee Mayo wilting. If that is the case though, then they are better out of it altogether.

I think its unfair and short sighted that its being played in Navan. A game in Newbridge would nearly be like a home game for Dublin again having played there twice already, plus i think that it will affect the gate on the day hugely. I've talked with a number of neutrals who said they would love to see the third game, but will be unlikely to head to Navan now.

Great article, i have to say. In one way you can half see the point that football was better years ago, but i think that was from a kind of aesthetic point of view more so- far less crowding long kicks, which when they came off look great but when they don't it was just dismal. Lot of it was aimless and poor stuff, and it is very true that more and more teams now are capable of putting together a good run.
I suppose the thing that is a major problem now and is not helping the game is the fear of taking a shot at goals. How often do we roar at a lad to take a shot, instead of passing sideways yet again. In fairness to Brolly and O'Rourke they were some men to strike, never afraid to miss, and i'd say that is the major draw back in the modern game, forwards too afraid to miss. But thats just my opinion.

''And Pat Gilroy is getting ready to bring in a sub..a sub...by Pat Gilroy, Pat who won a club medal with Vincents...and that sub is Alan Brogan, Alan, son of Bernard, Brother of Bernard, Brogan, Alan is the sub being made by Pat...'' ;D

Ha ha, spot on. Always thought he was a good commentator, if he wasn't always the best with giving out the score that much.

Who is right, who is wrong is the six-mark question?
Whats a six mark question? Has the $64,000 question been hit this badly by the recession?
if you ever went to score you might have a few more Irish cultural references as opposed to 1950s American ones
Managed to get to a few Tra na gCeist finals in my time thanks RosnaRun, due in no small part to six point questions. God bless us it must be great to be infallible.
