GAA Discussion / Re: Juvenile Coaching

Should be looking to use both feet and hands at U8 in my opinion. If you have got some weaker kids that can't kick with their good foot, why not keep them in a group together where a coach can focus on their needs. The kids that are that bit ahead of them, you keep in another group and work on their weak sides. That's how I do it. A key to success is to try and get 4/5 coaches at the same age group and break the kids up when doing the skills/drills. You need all your coaches singing of the same hymn sheet which I know is easier said than done!

Bring all the kids together for your games though but keep numbers small, use go games rules etc so that everyone is getting involved. The last bit is important as you don't want elitism creeping in either.

Does it not say in the bible somewhere that people should not engage with Tony as he is a looper. Well if it doesn't say that it should. Maybe in the next edition?

This is the latest in the ongoing case against Israel over the attacks

Spain 'issues arrest warrant' for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over 2010 Gaza flotilla attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and seven other former and current government officials are at risk of arrest if they set foot in Spain, after a Spanish judge effectively issued an arrest warrant for the group, it has been reported.

According to the Latin American Herald Tribune, Spanish national court judge Jose de la Mata ordered the police and civil guard to notify him if Mr Netanyahu and the six other individuals enter the country, as their actions could see a case against them regarding the Freedom Flotilla attack of 2010 reopened.

The other men named in the issue are former defence minister Ehud Barak, former foreign minister Avigdor Leiberman, former minister of strategic affairs Moshe Yaalon, former interior minister Eli Yishai, minister without portfolio Benny Begin and vice admiral maron Eliezer, who was in charge of the operation.

The case – which was put on hold by Judge de la Mata last year – was brought against the men following an attack by Israeli security forces against the Freedom Flotilla aid ships in 2010, which was trying to reach Gaza.

It concerns the Mavi Marmara ship, the main civilian vessel in a fleet of six that were attempting to break an Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip. The six ships were carrying around 500 passengers, humanitarian aid and construction materials. The Israeli Defence Force stormed the ship in a raid that left nine human rights activists dead. A tenth activist died later that month due to wounds sustained in the raid.

The Israeli Prime Minister and other officials now face charges in the case, should it be reopened.

An Israeli foreign ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Nachshon told the Jerusalem Post: "We consider it to be a provocation. We are working with the Spanish authorities to get it cancelled. We hope it will be over soon."

The bit in bold is code for we will threaten Spain and try to overturn the rule of law in that country.

Rte sound bucked or just my TV?

Ronnie's high pitched voice has blew the sound system.
;D he's goddamn awful hard to listen to.
Crazy not giving Walters Man of the match.

Yeah, does not matter anyways!

Jesus it as bang on for me, Brady was by far our best player. Walters scored a penalty and finished the 2nd well but he was a bit quiet by his recent standards. Every bit of football played by Ireland originated with Brady and he also stopped the threat that Bosnia had on their right wing.

I got to see a fair few cavan matches last year and Dunne was crap in all except for when he came on against Galway. He hasn't much pace and is totally lacking power and strength. In fact I think he owes Hyland for putting a player which his physique into a championship team at all where Keating was winning the ball for him and he was sticking it over. Everyone knows the accuracy he possesses but based on last year he cant have any complaints.

I think Barry Reilly is at a cross roads. I don't know his personal circumstances regarding work etc but he needs to bulk up too and start to look like a county player. There is no way he would play an ulster championship game on the 40 as he'd be fired around like a rag doll. I like his ability and I like his confidence but that isn't enough.

Corr would be a miss, an unsung hero.

McKeever a great servant and its a credit to him that he stuck in there and probably was a great guy to have on a panel to talk to the young lads but he was a 15 minute man at best last year and his best years are behind him. He was a credit.

Flanagan will be a miss, experienced, pacey and versatile. I never heard him whinging about managers so I presume he has his reasons this year and in fairness he owes nobody anything.

Jack Brady - hasn't shown himself to be up to the level yet, maybe he needs a break as hes been on the go a long time for a young lad.

I think one of the problems with getting someone is that they know that this is Hylands last year almost certainly. Therefore a new person will only have one year to make their mark as they may not necessarily be kept on with any new manager in 2017. The only sensible way for this to work is to have this years man as an apprentice who will take over next year. That means you are actually trying to a hire a new manager as opposed to a selector.

I still think Peter Reilly is  the man who fits this bill, if he is interested.

Having just watched the highlights a shocking poor effort by the Cavan champions. Surely with all of the underage success at county level that Cavan club champions should give a better account of themselves.

Afraid not, I saw a hammering coming. Cavan club football is very very poor at the moment. There are 40 clubs for 70k people, it is just not sustainable. There was a good piece in the local paper last week and only Leitrim have a similar club to population ratio along with laois (who can be discounted as they are a dual county). A Cavan club has never won Ulster either. I just wrote on our own page that the county chairman needs to prioritising the club scene in  the same way the previous chairman focused on underage overhaul. Its very difficult to be a strong county with poor club football.

This time of the year the same comments are made on here about the state of the club game in Cavan. Unfortunately it seems to be true. I played on a poor enough intermediate team when I played but I attend a few games last year and I couldnt help but notice the much poorer standard. So what is to be done? Surely the clubs need to recognise that it is in their long term interests to have stronger leagues and championships to develop their players as well as strengthen the county team. It has to be made a priority by the chairman in the same way as the last chairman made underage football a priority. Why? Well all the underage talent we have coming through will be wasted in the substandard Cavan football championships if something isnt done.

Well done to Templeport, looks like a good win. Hopefully they can go another step further and lift the gloom.

GAA Discussion / Re: Brian Kerr blames GAA

I don't see what is so offensive to the GAA in that article. Isn't he just explaining where the Irish style of football comes from? Contaminated could be considered a negative word but I don't read it like that. I like Brian Kerr, always found him to be a salt of the earth Irishman and a man who knows his sport well right down to grass roots. The kind of guy you'd find in most GAA clubs. I certainly don't think he is attacking the GAA at all here.

So we get half of Cavan. Tough draw.
I know and poor southern gaels get the representatives of the second most populous county in Ireland.

He is no longer U21 manager. .

Lynch is one of the coaches in the County, won 2 All Ireland Vocational Schools with Virginia, County titles with Mullahoran and Kingscourt, beaten narrowly in last years final

When did Peter Reilly stand down, was that recently? For me he did a very good job with the U21s. I know some people think he was too defensive but for me he was playing the hand he was given to the best of his ability. He will be a hard man to follow.

Any word on Terry Hylands back room team for next year? I'm not unhappy McHale is gone anyway, dont see what he brought to it and like I said when he was brought in, I had big doubts about him. I'd like to see the potential next manager come from within the county and it would be a great idea to get that person into the back room team this year - Peter Reilly, Bernard Morris, Ciaran Brady someone like that. Any word on whether Keating will come back in? What about Alan Clarke?

I remember Ian Wright dropping his shorts in front of some abusive fans and everyone thought it was hilarious. The british soccer louts deserve to get some abuse back.
