GAA Discussion / Re: Leinster Minor 2013

Indiana and Ross4life, Tipp had a young team in 2011, but they were mostly Under 17's.  The only Under 16 on the team in the All Ireland Final was Colin O'Riordan at right half back.  Colin was captain of the team beaten by Kerry in Killarney today when he was going for his 3rd Munster Minor medal.  Sadly, it was not to be.  Tipp had a young team today as well with 2 Under 16's starting, Danny Owens and Alan Tynan.   We should be stronger next year all going well.

Afraid not jinxy.  8 teams through to the quarter finals are Mayo, Roscommon, Monaghan, Tyrone, Tipperary, Kerry, Westmeath and Kildare.

My idea of the best ever soccer team (ie comprised of those who had or are having long or reasonably long careers in top flight English or Scottish soccer), with GAA Credentials.

1.Pat Jennings/Packie Bonnar/Shay Given

2. Chris Baird
3. Steve Staunton
4. Kevin Moran
5. Gerry Mc Elhinney

6. Martin O'Neill
7. Neil Lennon
8. Shane Long

9.Niall Quinn
10. Gerry Armstrong
11.Niall Mc Ginn
Surely, Con Martin would be in the back 4.  Val Harris won an All Ireland with Dublin before playing for Liverpool and Ireland.  Both have stronger credentials than a few of your team/

Some win for Carlow.  Well done to them.  Now play Wexford in Leinster Semi Final.

Thanks for those 2 articles, babarino.  They brought back great memories of Ulster Finals in Clones that I attended on many occasions over the years, despite the long trip from South Tipperary.  To me they were special days and up there with the highlights of the GAA year.  IMO it would be an awful pity if Ulster Finals in Clones were to be no more.  Good luck to the development of Casement Park, but it is to be hoped that St. Tiernach's Park remains an integral part of of big days in the football scene.

Nothing easy about that draw for Tipperary.  4th year in a row playing Kerry in the 1st Round.  At least we had a comfortable win over them in the Junior Championship 1-15 to 0-11.

Having seen Tipp's matches against Clare and Cork, I would say that they improved a lot between these two games as minor teams often do.  To compare them with the All Ireland winning team of 2011 or last year's Munster winning teams is difficult this early in the season, but I would be happy that the defence measures up quite well to those teams and is possibly stronger in the full back line than last year's team,  Colin O'Riordan is certainly the best midfielder to have played for Tipp in the last 3 years, but his partners against Clare or Cork were not as good as last year's two midfielders.  As for the forwards they do not have players of the class of Liam McGrath, Michael Quinlivan, Philip Quirke or Colman Kennedy. but Alan Tynan at 15 years of age is a very promising looking player and will improve a lot in the coming months and years.  The other corner forward Paul Maher had a fine game as well, but the big name forwards, Tom Kirwan (outstanding against Clare) and Josh Keane were well below their best last night.  Tipp don't have anything like the bench they had in 2011, but have done much better than any of us expected and there could be more to come.  IMO it is very important that we have produced another good minor team and are not just depending on the fine teams of 2011 and 2012.  The production line appears to be still working well.

Great win for Tipp tonight.   A hugely under rated minor team gave a heart warming display to beat Cork for the 3rd year in a row.  No mean feat.  Tipp missed a lot of scores and shot several bad wides, but the backs were outstanding and Colin O'Riordan gave an exhibition at midfield.  Alan Tynan was the main man in attack scoring 7 points.  This is a very young team, with 3 Under 16's and very few gave them a chnace against Cork tonight.

I am waiting for some President to suggest scrapping the games and replacing them with committees.
O'Neill is your man to come up with an idea like that.  He loves throwing out some hair brained ideas for discussion in the media.  Serious question - Is he any improvement on Chisty Cooney?.

Great win for Offaly today up in Naaavvvaaaan. They were losing 2-6 to 0-3 at one stage before half time, but ended up winning 6-10 to 3-8. If Tipp can beat Clare this evening It'll be a very good day..
Tipp did indeed beat Clare in Ennis, by 1-10 to 0-8.
