Would Muhammad and Jonah be drinking what with their respective medical conditions? You could have a quiet night on your hands there Deel Rover.

I'd have to go with the likes of:

Jimmy White
Ian Woosnam
Moss Keane
mid-80s versions of McGrath/Robson/Whiteside (before it got serious)

ludermor, I'd stick it on needaticket.ie rather than try flogging it here. AIHF tickets going for €600 and more there -- that's the type of fella you should be aiming for.

So who's going then anyway?

Would 1985 be the last time a county featured in both Leinster finals the same year?

You may have seen this before but it's an absolute mare, still trying to get to the end of it:

Kerry had an interesting little warm-up routine before the game on Sunday, did anybody see it?

What they did was split into two groups on either side of the pitch, and each group split into two teams with different coloured bibs. They had a little area marked out and for 5 mins or so they just hand-passed the ball around and each different team tried to win the ball back off the other. The area was very tight and crowded and the ball was moved around extremely quickly. No doubt this was an attempt to simulate match play and the type of defence Dublin would be employing on them.

I know Pat O'Shea has a background in basketball but it was interesting to see that the Kerry lads didn't rely solely on hand-passing, this was only done when space was limited and was mixed well with the long ball tactic. Laois have been proponents of the hand-passing game over the last few years but I thought that Kerry did it much more effectively at the weekend and also only when needed.

One other thing I noticed about Donaghy particularly is the way he turns like a basketballer, i.e., pivots on one foot and swings around rather than steps this way or the other. Again this seemed to get him out of space much more quickly. Anyone else notice?

Was chatting to a few people about this at the weekend, the topic of tickets was a popular one cos I was drinking with a bunch of Dubs (and I was the only one with a ticket).

For "real fans" your ability to get a ticket at this time of year is a sign of your resourcefulness/connections but for the September brigade, it's a mark of social standing like the '07 Range Rover in the driveway, or getting away with drink driving cos you know a Garda or judge somewhere.

GAA Discussion / Re: If You Could Change One Rule
August 29, 2007, 11:12:12 AM
Why do we have to pick only one? Mark for kick outs is a good idea; advantage rule also makes sense.

I'd also like to see some definition about what happens after a fella goes to ground with the ball. If an attacking player is knocked over (for example), they're at a huge disadvantage because they firstly have to get to their feet (thus exposing the ball) and then pick it up with their toe while bending over (making them off-balance and more vulnerable to being knocked over again). The man should be allowed play the ball on the ground -- very Rugby League I hear you say but it's going that way anyway...

If the Mods have time to edit posts I agree with you Gnevin. At the very least the poster should be given the opportunity to edit/withdraw the remark themselves. If they refuse then I say report them. If we agreed a code of conduct then we could point out to the offender what they've done wrong.

This board should defend the characters of players who give so much for free, we are here to talk about their ball skills , not to insult them or abuse them

This bit is very important and I agree totally. One should always criticise the behaviour and not the person. If your argument is good enough you should never have the need to describe a person (be they a player or poster) as anything insulting.

GAA Discussion / Re: Derry Laois AI Minor SF
August 29, 2007, 12:01:14 AM
Should be very close again. As people have pointed out on this board before (and Darragh O'Cinnéide mentioned the same point on the Sunday Game), with Minors you just never know. My hopes are that we learned a lesson from it and that the players who didn't perform will have a better day out next time.

But these are two good teams and should be worth seeing again. BTW Cavan is probably nearer to the GAA heartlands of south Derry than it is to north/east Laois so Navan is probably the best compromise.

Gnevin, your pm was dealt with. In fact two of us looked after it. We don't always pm back to everyone, we just deal with the request as best we can and leave it.
Would a pm kill you?

Still post calling Dublin players scumbags this sort of stuff is pure hoganstand filth and should be changed by a mod , the user issued a warning and a post say its not acceptible , no point being cloak and dagger about it

Could this not have been done by PM as opposed to in the public forum?
Why should it be hidden , the mods have felt the need to public express their disappointment that Bud left and i agree he's a big lose but their is no point in bolting the door after the horse has bolted .

Firstly I 100% agree with the first bit highlighted above. If I had bothered to read through the 2 million posts on the match I might have seen the original post you mention. On the second point above, at no point did the mods mention Bud or any other poster specifically.

Back to the original point, do you have any suggestions about how the standard of posting can be improved? My own view is a code of conduct regulated by all users.

The Passport office in Dublin does a same day service, but you will need proof of travel.

Correct. You will also need to hang around for the day basically as it's always jammers. There is a passport office in Cork also which does the same thing if that's any use to you. Details on passports are on the Citizens' Information Website...

Agree:
- with the poster who said it's not necessarily the new arrivals who bring the tone down or get involved in verbals.
- that "the board is dead" debate has been done before.
- that you don't have to read every thread or every post
- that as Dinny says you should self-regulate and lock the thread you started if it goes off the wall.
- that the mods have better things to be doing with their time than censoring posts or banning members.

Can I suggest a "code of conduct" to be posted as a sticky topic which we can all play a part in regulating. On other boards I've tended to PM lads if I think they're going off the wall. In my experience the type of people who start these arguments usually have no interest in continuing it on privately.

I hope Bud will be back. I get a great laugh out of his threads as he's very witty and writes as a Laoisman speaks -- that's not easy...
