Quote from: RedHand88 on July 31, 2023, 01:56:40 PMClub snobs are nearly as bad as hurling snobs! Plenty of legitimate reasons why someone doesn't follow a club.

So someone following the game at grass roots level is now labelled as a snob. That's a bit of an irony, I would have thought that would apply to the lads following the big time stuff.

He wasn't meaning people who follow club GAA are snobs. He means that the many people who feel the need to complain about people who prefer to watch county GAA over club GAA are snobs. Some people just prefer watching top level sport, it is noones business what level of sport they watch

Yes... peaked... While having a stronger panel this year than last.. Explain that one? ???

Armagh's closest competitor Derry also will have a stronger squad and a stronger managerial set up so they most likely won't win Ulster next year.

I try to avoid reading twitter posts from loyalists, it is not good for my health. It is a real eye opener the amount of vile loyalists there are in this country.

I remember seeing one during the elections from a loyalist calling Sinn Fein voters "plastic paddies" and he said "No wonder the Irish are viewed as stupid by the rest of the world". So he called us plastic paddies and then in the same sentence called us Irish. I don't think loyalists can make up their minds what we are.

Quote from: square_ball on September 04, 2023, 12:40:32 PMOr the message he got from James McCarthy when the Derry jubilee team were having their day out in the All Ireland Final. McCarthy text him to say how he had fond memories of that team. McCarthy was 3 when Derry won the All Ireland in 1993. . .
Maybe he meant the players in general as half the 1993 team were still playing around 1999/2000 which he would remember. Tohill played up until 2003.

Quote from: OakleafCounty on September 07, 2023, 09:14:35 AMI remember being in the old Cusack in 1993. The noise in it was unreal with the upper deck being practically on top of the lower.
The land the old Cusack was built on is a part of the pitch now due to the new Cusack being tilted anti clockwise. For example where Rian O'Neill took that free kick against Galway would have been in the old stand.

Do you remember the haunting moment Gilligan kicked possession away before Galway's goal near the end of the 2001 semi final?

I'd never heard of The Cranberries until the singer died. Maybe they are more popular with southerners or maybe you have to be of a certain age to know them. I remember hearing that Zombies song on the radio and I thought it was a Sinead O'Connor song.

Similar to the band Aslan, I never heard of that band until i saw them on the late late show a few years ago.

Brolly doesn't seem to like lower class people. He is often talking about how bigoted they are in this country and how the "educated people" have moved past it. Yet in the same conversation he was talking about how vile Carla Lockhart is, an education middle class woman.

Also how come Brolly doesn't mention that he played under an outsider manager too? Brian Mullins over 25 years ago. He is making out like it is a modern thing.

General discussion / Re: The IRISH RUGBY thread
September 22, 2023, 03:00:16 PM
Many of the people watching the rugby world cup are the same types who complain about GAA bandwagoners watching the All Ireland football championship. So tell me, are all you Irish rugby fans involved in local grassroots rugby? Sure you shouldn't be watching the Ireland international team if you don't go out and coach your local u-10s by your own logic.

I am a subscriber to Brand's email newsletter but I never got any email's this week.

I used to listen to his audio books, I was first introduced to him when he presented Big Brother's big mouth in 2004.

Last year I watched one of his stand up shows and was put off by how vulgar it was. I think there is a line between funny and downright vulgar as he was talking about the deep throat blowjobs he received.

GAA Discussion / Re: County Manager Merry go round

I personally don't care about having Harte as manager although I do worry he may be the wrong choice football wise. Tyrone people seem to be more worked up than Derry people. They have 4 All Ireland's and they still are steeped in bitterness, there is no pleasing them.
I can remember Harte giving a talk at my school, it was something about religion. I also remember him bringing Sam Maguire into the school as we had some Tyrone pupils. He could end up bringing Sam back to that school over the next few years.

No big deal when he managed Louth but now he's got a bigger and better opportunity on his door step with little to no travelling and because it's the next door neighbours Tyronies are having a fit...Wise up...it's like when you get rid of the girlfriend but find out she's found another man and you don't like it ;D

Will be interesting if/when Derry play Tyrone what reaction he'll get

Is it bigger and better? He's going from a county with 3 all-ireland to a county with 1 all-ireland.

Louth won All Ireland's in 1910, 1912 and 1957. Winning All Ireland's 100 years ago shouldn't even be compared to winning them now. Football is a different game, it is much more competitive and there are far more games.
It is like saying Antrim are more successful because they have more Ulster's than Derry. Most of their titles came over 100 years ago and in one occasion they were awarded the title because they were the only team who entered. You can't seriously claim winning an Ulster title in 1912 is the same as winning one now?

As I said before, Tyronies upset show there entitlement almost in every post. Derry are better, your entitlement can't allow you see it. Derry are close, Harte knows it, your entitled mind set prevents you from knowing it. I hope Derry draw Tyrone so we illustrate once again we have a better team.

If Eamonn Coleman took over the reigns in Tyrone when they were a coming team I don't think you would be showing your entitlement if it annoyed you a bit. It's natural. The rivalries are what make the GAA, Tyrone and Derry will always have a healthy disdain. I don't think it sits that well in either county tbh. Derry are a better team than Tyrone right now but I would be stunned if Harte gets them over the line for the big one.

That isn't really an equal comparison as Eamonn Coleman's father was from Ardboe, Tyrone so he could have gotten away with managing them. Although I think he still hated the Tyrone football team.
Also former Derry manager Paddy Crozier also had a Tyrone father, from Moortown.
