GAA Discussion / Re: Money, Dublin and the GAA

In 10 years time when people ask when did GAA inter-county football die and is it only Kerry and Dublin that take it serious anymore, I shall point them to this thread.

Well, not really the truth is it? They could put a motion to congress and vote. 31 counties worth of votes. And it would be all your own doing.

If Dublin fans were any ways clued in, they would see that the power in the gaa isn't in Dublin, but rather in the group. If you keep isolating yourself and refusing to give an inch to anyone else, you will pretty soon find yourself on the wrong side of a huge majority.

In truth, the Dubs would be much better served giving an inch here and there on things that aren't going to make that much of a difference in the grand scheme of things...

The latest whining about Michael O'Donoghue (who took a team of alsorans and won literally everything), getting an award over Jim Gavin (who with a team who had won 4 AI in 5 years, won an all Ireland) for achievements in the last 12 months, would be the latest example of why the Dubs could very well end up sickening everyone into taking away their funding.

It's one of these maddening situations for aos to be in. He gets walloped and assaulted by Dublin defenders on and off the ball, assault a mayo player and wait for retaliation and then lie down like a coward and wait for the card to be produced.
To get Sam Maguire to Mayo, where it needs to be for a change, all the Mayo players need to stay on the field and play their usual game which dublin have being really struggling to handle.
To cillian, Keegan, Vaughan and Higgins, please don't buy what the dub will try to sell on the pitch, walk away and play your football. Doing that, you are The Director, not the one being directed. You can direct dublin into defeat by not getting upset but laughing at the insults and sledging during the game. Same goes for Mayo sideline, keep it cool, you have to think calmly and not get sent to the bench like the kerry lunatic, it's not good for a player on the field with his hands full, looking at his management going bananas on the sideline, so lead by example. Calm.
Of all the things Mayo need on the big day, staying on the pitch and being in control of their own emotions are the 2 biggest things.
If Mayo Inc. do that, their football and power will do the rest and that big party in Galway on Monday last will look like a tea party in the back garden compared to what would be on show in Castlebar on Monday the 18th.

I suppose this is the Dublin County board guaranteeing 10 tickets if you give them €3500, with a draw it is only luck and clubs have a limited number. It's not inconceivable that Dublin could sell 50 tables therefore 500 tickets are taken out of ordinary hands/clubs. It's touting in another language.

I wonder if 15 odd years ago, when Dublin needed funding from the taxpayer to be competitive, if they were told to man up and support their team, what the reaction would have been? Dublin are a fine side, a credit to themselves, but some of their fans are painfully lacking in self-awareness.

GAA Discussion / Re: Joe McQuillan to ref AI Final
September 05, 2017, 02:17:57 PM
He isn't the worst ref out there. However, an issue Id have with 2013 was Dublin carried out a ridiculous amount of fouls in the game, yet f-all cards were handed out to them.
Again in the 2015 semi final, cooper and McMahon were let off the hook with straight red card offences in the drawn game. He needs to just call the rules and don't be worrying about who he is punishing.

David Clarke has to start the replay. Never lost a championship against Dublin when he started game in 2006, 2012 & 2016(drawn game). Mayo to win by by 6

As a Kerryman glad to see Tyrone royally put on their Arse! Took away a lot of the pain of losing to perennial losers/chokers Mayo the day before. It amazes me how much value Tyrone folk place on an Ulster title and beating Ulster teams in quarter finals to reach semi-finals. This has been their only way to semi-finals the last couple of years. Wonder why?  Hope Tyrone hold onto Mickey. His energy and tactical awareness has waned. The three top counties have him sussed and there is no plan B and a hugely predictable plan A! Fair play to the Media and the GAA for building up this fixture based on really nothing (if you look at it) to help Tickets and Papers sales. They played a blinder.

There are a lot of Tyrone folk on here still in denial seeing consecutive Ulster titles as progress. They remind me of Mayo fans on a different level. Of course Tyrones level is lower than that of Mayo!

How sad that this is what it reduces to for some Kerry buachaillí: the success, or otherwise, of Tír Eoghain; and the irony of anyone from Munster bemoaning the ease of passage for the Ulster Champions is obviously lost on you. :(

How happy, though, are we to think of the torment and torture we put you through in 2003, 2005 & 2008, yay! :D :D :D :) :) :)

Never said it was easy for Tyrone to win Ulster titles. Who cares about Provincial titles? How long is it now since Tyrone beat Kerry in the Championship? Nearly 10 years? How long is it since Tyrone have beaten Dublin, Kerry, Mayo, Cork? When is the last time Tyrone won anything? There are lads in secondary School who have never seen or Remember seeing Tyrone in a AI Final. Ye are as bad as the Bould Mickey living of success that happened a decade ago! Top 4 my Arse! As for the Noughties, we won 4 titles in that era! We won consecutive titles. Ye lost to Paper light Mayo in this decade! A side we brushed aside in finals of '04 and '06. How do you explain that having such a great side? The last nine years have been fun watching ye squirm with the chasing pack!

Joe Brolly was right when the Armagh/Tyrone defeats destroyed kerry fans mentallity. Then when the dubs started beating it damaged them further. Kerry fans management players and fans are classless in defeat and always have some excuse

I hear Imelda Maye is singing on Al final day?, seeing that she comes from the South inner City area I have no doubt that "Molly Malone" or the other one "the Auld triangle" will be belted out, or maybe a song each for both Counties.
I would encourage All Mayo supporters to sing our own song at exactly the same time (as the Dubs anthem).
Mayo County Board will need to aggressively demand a fair share of the Hill and Nally tickets, I will be in the unusual position of looking for a ticket here in Dublin and Mayo, I have never been let down for an All Ireland ticket from my Mayo contact. Having been in the Premium level for both Kerry matches, I need to be in the terraces for the final.
The Large flag will make an appearance also, maybe a loudspeaker and whistle.
We normally head to Mayo for the Halloween break, but this year I believe this will be brought forward, I have pencilled in a date on my work diary, it's 18th Sept, the Monday homecoming.
