QuoteTough match played in terrible showers (including hail) in the 2nd half. The sending off (still dont know what it was for - think verbals) was crucial. Galway used their extra man well in the last 15 minutes.

I thought it was an excellent game considering the conditions during it.

Our no.22 had a great game. I didnt see your player do anything to deserve a sending off but geez, that ref gave an awful lof of decisions in Roscommon's favour.

If GAA ever did go professional, Would it be possible to stop transfers? Or would this be a must because of some law???

QuoteThis could be sponsored by the employer or the GAA could pay for it.

Some jobs would just be too under resourced to do this as well

yeah, heard that too. Excellent stuff

QuoteI think Hanly is a very mature full back for a young player and has great pace but he is suspect in the air

???

Hanley is very comfortable in the air and Id trust him under a high ball, just as much as I would any other full back in the country.

QuoteI still think Galway peaked against Mayo, thats not bitterness, I think Galway were head and shoulders above mayo on the day.

Bitterness is exactly what it is! :)

Quoteto be honest I wouldnt be too worried about P Joyce or Savage at this stage of their careers or based on form + Fallon wouldnt really worry me at all.

Lets hope that the Sligo camp are thinking along those lines as well :)

If you post the name of the guy who played for Cavan on this board, you might get somebody who has read something about him etc.

QuoteThe bad points are I guess that Maxwell caused havoc amongst our f**k-back line which has been very solid over the past while. He either caught every high ball pumped into him or at least broke it to someone else and generally made a nuisance of himself

Whenever, I have seen Maxwell play, he always has a stormer on whoever is marking him. He is a class act.

Thought taking Hanley off was a bit foolish. Dropping Blake back to play as a sweeper in front of the full back line would have been a good idea (Like they did in the last years league final) against Kerry.

Surprisingly, I thought Bergin was very very quiet while Coleman did some good work. Cullinane is an excellent sub to bring in when you are struggling to win the kick outs.

Forwards were poor, Meehan & Bane and P.Joyce will not be happy with their displays. Nicky Joyce had a superb game though (but he should stay away from the backs, he always does something daft when hes down there, yesterday, he gave a suicide pass to Blake that resulted in a Leitirm point). I like the fact that he is running directly at his opponents now, something he didnt really do before. I thought Ja did well yesterday as well too, but he got very tired towards the end.

QuoteWhat candidates were they? I don't think any of the candidates supported the Shell to Sea campaign - Crowley did for a while, but backed down in February when certain elements appeared to highjack the campaign for their own ends. But hey - what have you been up to lately Northsideboy?

Jerry Cowley & Gerry Murray were both very supportive of the protesters. Not sure about the others

QuoteNo Duine Eile was far from a happy bunny this morning, more of a raging lunatic!Where the hell was that stupid bollocks of an umpire lookin, we could even see it was a point from behind the town goal and that wasn't even the first point signaled wide when it was actually over, the goal Nicky missed ended up over the bar and was waved wide even though the umpire gave the nod to put up the flag he changed his mind and said it was wide and an Annaghdown wide was given as a point! I'd love to know where they find these geniuses.  That said we had ourselves nearly beaten. We were f*****g diabolical. Declan Kelly at no.2 and Tom Hughes and Micheal Keane at mid field were about the only ones to come out of the game with their heads held high. We dominated mid field but no matter what we did we couldn't score in the first half. It wasn't Annaghdown that beat us, we beat ourselves. (With the help of the unpires of course.) Padraic had an unusually bad game, hardly ever has a bad club game, Nicky had about 5 players on him whenever he got a sniff of the ball so where were the lads to help him when he got into trouble? That said, he didn't exactly wear himself out trying to get the ball and what the hell was he at that he missed that open goal, it would have been easier score it than what he did with it. Like I said the only positives from the game was the performance of our midfield, Hughes in particular, caught an awful amount of ball. Besides that, they were like a team playing together for the first time. They looked fit but that's feck all good to them if they don't know where they're supposed to be playing or who they're marking. Absolutely brutal!Anyway, back door draw on tonight, unfamiliar territory for us, never been in this situation before. It's about ten years since we were beaten in a first round match.

In fairness, there was an incident in the second half though where Annaghdown had the ball near their own goal, were coming out of defence, under no pressure, starting to build and the ref blew as there were a couple of players injured in the middle of the field. Match resumed with a hop ball down near the Annaghdown goal and Kilererin scored a point from it. I thought that was very harsh on Annaghdown and evened the point that wasnt.

QuoteAs an aside, I've said it before but whoever had the big idea of redeveloping Pearse Stadium seriously needs to be hung, drawn and quartered. Left Barnaderg (note spellig An Fhairice ) at about ten to 2, didn't get parked until about ten to 4, f*****g traffic! I know all the city and west lads now are going to say how they had to come to Tuam for years and what not but at least every Mayo man, woman, chicken and child weren't going the same way!Absolutelt crazy!Youre nearly better off booking in somewhere on Saturday night and not even thinking about leaving until Monday morning. Anyway rant over, for now anyway!

Agreed, took me ages to get there too but I left in plenty of time. Took me longer to get home though. I dont think it is possible to find a worse location for a stadium than where Pearse is.

QuoteI'm sure most Galwegians are hoping for a Galway / Ros' final which would be played in Pearse stadium (no chance of Tuam being ready unfortunately.)

Whats the story with Tuam? They knocked the terrace beside the goal at the beginning of last year and nothing seems to have been done since

QuoteSo by the same token would you condem P Joyce for running from 10 years away and smashing his elbow into Conor Mortimers head.

Are you serious?

The time Joyce pushed him and he fell into Coyne, you are describing that as smashing his elbow into mortimers head???

QuoteSham,
Why didn't you quote the whole sentence, I also said McDonald and T Mortimer would be flying. I didn't use brady as an excuse for losing, here is my post again:

"Galway were the better and hungrier team on the day. A couple of things for me that were key factor to the defeat.
1 We lost the first 7 balls contested at midfield, this gave galway the momentem and the foundation for the win.
2 Against the wind we had an isolated full forward line. Even if the ball was broken down, we did not have the support play to get the breaks.
3 we had men who were done for over carrying on 4 or 5 occasions.
4 A goal straight after half time would have put us back in it. (f*ck that crossbar!)
5 Galway used the referees leniancy to their advantage. Galway saw what he was allowing and played to the limit. I thought that some of the tackles deserved yellows and not ticks, but you can not blame galway for this"

Is Brady mentioned once in the factors that i judged to have caused our defeat?

Sorry, wasnt saying that you were using it as an excuse for the match yesterday.

Its just every year I hear the same about Brady from Mayo fans, oh, if we had Brady, it would've been a different game etc. I wasnt thinking of yesterdays match specifically at all.

He isnt even a particularly good player, I just dont get why people rate him so highly. Fair enough, hes decent at what he does, a bit of a hatchet man midfielder but thats it. Galway have an equivalent in Barry Cullinane. They are useful to a degree.
