Quote from: Points a Good Score on March 28, 2024, 10:01:27 AMA very tough week in Moneyglass with more difficult days to follow.

I've been lucky to know Jack McCoy since he was a very young lad, an absolute giant of a man in a wee body. Bravery, skill and endeavour where his best characteristics on the pitch, but off it is where he really excelled, a quick wit and sharp personality, a friend to old and young alike with the ability to interact and converse with both just the same.

Nothing was ever a problem to Jack, we're light in numbers today Jack can you play corner back, no problem, man marking job today Jack, no problem.

An IFC semi final against St Paul's a few years ago epitomised him most, in a game St Paul's looked like winning all the way through Jack never gave up, he contributed scores, blocks and tackles all night, covering 19kms over the 80 minutes a phenomenal effort.

We'll all miss him terribly both on and off the pitch.

There's no problem in this world that can't be solved, speak out and seek help don't suffer in silence like our dear friend.

Gutting to read, RIP Jack.

Quote from: general_lee on March 27, 2024, 12:11:01 PMSo why is a pint in Belfast £6+?
Is it solely because of some imaginary cabal price gouging (see Beannchor) or is there actually more to it?

Belfast city centre pubs pay 20% VAT, in Dublin it's 13.5% (was 9%). UKGov refuses to reduce VAT for hospitality & tourism.

There is no rates relief in Belfast city centre (or NI) for hospitality businesses that is available elsewhere in the UK. So when the council raise their non-domestic rates, pubs and restaurants here get slaughtered.

Despite handsome profits last year, Diageo have announced their latest price increase - this is the one that makes the news but other breweries and suppliers have also put their prices up in the past 12 months.

Many Belfast city centre pubs employ people on minimum wage. When that goes up next month, they will be paying their bar staff more. They then have to pay supervisors, managers etc more as well. If they hire external contractors such as a cleaning company, that bill will also increase.

Wetherspoons, despite being a messy, under-staffed, McDonald's that serves alcohol and cheap, nasty food, has still increased prices twice in the last 6 months. The industry is fucked.

latest accounts article i could see for Beannchor. £6.3million pre-tax profits for a year.

Yeah nearly £2 on the button.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on March 26, 2024, 02:51:59 PMOut for a meal on Sat afternoon.. bill was £80 a head! Is what it is, had a great time and decent food..Ya only live once!

£80 a head is a blind statement though. I've no problem paying £80 (or more) a head in a place that's worth it. However a pizza restaurant charging £8.50 a pint in Belfast is absolutely taking the piss.

Work event last week in Fratelli Belfast, sweet lord I haven't saw prices like it! Obviously we weren't paying, but looking at the drinks menu gave me a shiver down my back. Absolutely disgraceful prices in Belfast (or anywhere) Apparently the same group that own The Galgorm & Cafe Parisian who both apparently charge over £7.50 for a Guinness.

From Memory - (Their Drinks Menu is online too for anyone wanting to see it)
Pint Lager - £8.50
Pint Stout - £7.50
Gin & Tonic - £13.40

Did Toby47 not say he got injured. Was it a broken bone in the wrist?

Broken finger I think

Quote from: Rawhide on March 25, 2024, 01:50:37 PMBaker has done really well. He is athletic and understands our patterns of play and times his support runs excellently. Grt through the transition. His weakness is on the few one to ones that todays games allows,  he has been to easily gone bye, his tackling in one to one needs improvement. When all our defenders are fit I do not see him starting. I see McCloskey, McAvoy, McKaigue, McGrogan, McKindless & Doherty.

For me Baker has been the find of the season.
I think he's a starter and with a fully fit panel, McKaigue should be the one to drop out.
I'm going to predict that McKaigue will struggle most against the dubs. He won't have the pace and will resort to fouls.

From what I've seen of Gilmore, he's certainly an option. Murray was injured I think for periods last year and in the early stages this year, so I think he just needs a run. Has shown enough imo to be in with a shout.
Any updates on Oisin McWilliams?
Murphy and exciting prospect, I can see him as being a real potent impact sub.

Murphy isn't as young as people are thinking, won a MacRory cup in 2017 with Lynch, McCloskey, Declan Cassidy etc and has played in 3 County Finals with Magherafelt. He was unfortunate with the injury after his brilliant performance V Tyrone.

He is asking what clubs the players involved are from?

Shane Mcguigan & Conor Doherty. The Back Door, Maghera.

My god, why do people think it's cool to tell half stories & keep the other half to themselves? 'I'm letting you know I know something before you, but not telling you what it is'

1 in 5 not working or seeking work. Mad.
Working age. I don't see it accounting for students from ages 16 to 24 or early retirement for late 50s.

Don't know all the ins and outs of this but there is no shortage of work. While inflation is / was high it will disappear when wages catch up which they nearly have now and energy prices come down as that is exclusively the issue.
Other recessions had millions unemployed. Not the case. It's boom time for the next 5 years. Fill yer boots. Stocks, shares, investments, new ventures. Get in now.

I got a letter through the door yesterday, 22.8% decrease in gas from 1st April.
