Tyrone / Re: Tyrone County Football and Hurling

Attended the game yesterday, few thoughts:

Brian Kennedy was a big standout, he was brilliant. A huge physical presence, took some great clean catches around midfield but was also impressive in his tackling. He stopped Derry moves in their tracks several times.
One thing he probably needs to add to his game is confidence in the final third to drive on and take the score, he has all the ability to power past tackles and set up and easy shot for himself, or even to get through on goal. Not many defenders in the game with the size and strength to stop him. That confidence will hopefully come with experience on down the line you'd imagine.

Peter Harte showed his class when he came on. Went toe-to-toe with McKaigue and got the better of him, and acted as a focal point for the Tyrone attack which it sorely missed in the first half. Combined well with Coney on a number of occasions, a nice throwback to the '08 minor days. Looks to have been working on his free-kicking technique, looked very assured on placed balls.

Coney was good, very positive on the ball, always looking to create something. Frustrating that we won't get to see the full extent of his great range of passing more frequently, such is the cluttered defensive shape that will be adopted by opponents. He got through a mountain of possession and there is a serious improvement in his work rate from his last Tyrone stint.

Poor games from Conall McCann and Cathal McShane, both guilty of handling errors and poor decision-making. Bit puzzling that Harte kept them on long after half-time when we had options on the bench.

Ronan O'Neill a real worry. Seems to be getting a lot of chances so far, he looked off the pace, shipped off at halftime. Would worry for his place in the standing, given McCurry back in the mix and Brennan now arguably the chief scoring forward in the panel.

Another encouraging cameo from Canavan Jr. Showed a bit of guile and trickery to wriggle out of a few tackles and clip over a lovely point. Brave like his auld boy, threw himself into 50/50s and won a few important frees. Very much a boy still, was swallowed up and threw off it a few times, but give him a year under Peter Donnelly and he'll no doubt meet the physical demands of the game. Was receiving a lot of encouragement from the line, notably Gavin Devlin, when involved in good things.

Overall I'd say Mickey Harte would be far from overjoyed with the performance. There were a lot of errors in possession, simple handling and a reticence to shoot when well-placed. Nothing that can't be ironed out.

Very fortunate with favourable weather this year too. I have seen worse years for fixtures.

Id rather be playing late into the autumn than doing pre season field work three times a week like some Armagh clubs are doing!

Any rumours of Tyrone clubs beginning their pre-seasons yet?

TTM should have went along with what ever the County board wanted, they knew fine rightly the CB held the power to do this, they smelt the money like the County board also did with what they where set to make with the online sales and advertising and they wanted a piece of it!
I dont think the CB have done anything wrong to be fair, yes its harsh but thats the reality of it!
This doesnt say they dont do a great job as they do and I hope they continue to do what they are doing!!

I can't see why the CB would curtail what TTM were doing though, I mean if people wanted to buy the stream they would have. Will CB put a clamper on the likes of Philly Mc reporting live from the game now. TTM will know to go to Omagh St Endas and ask permission to set up pitch side.

Sets a precedent now that Tyrone TV will be rolled out for each championship going forward, especially as it has largely been seen as a success, and other counties have been broadcasting their Championship games for a while now. TTM are in jeopardy of being marginalised in what is arguably their marquee event for coverage in the local GAA season. However they'll know now that in future they'll not be caught cold like they were at the weekend. Could make for some interesting times ahead by the time next year's Championship rolls around.

Tintown Rattler are yous going for promotion to the big league or calling it quits for the year?
WT4E you may as well ask the man on the moon about the Harps' promotion aspirations than an account named 'Tintown Rattler'

Attended the four semi-finals over the weekend.

Stewartstown v Augher
Thought this game would go down to the wire given the absence of Cassidy as a target man for Augher. They were much faster and fitter, especially after the break, and crucially they made the ball stick in the forward line, who were out in front and won every battle as they stretched out their lead. McElroy in midfield was physically superior and made a big difference.
The Harps on the other hand were just too slow in their attacking play, and guilty of a lot of handling errors. They had Dan Lowe in seriously hot form coming into this game, but he never got going at all, a combination of being well shackled and a short supply of ball. Another case of the Dungannon syndrome for Stewartstown, that's a right few championship defeats there in recent years.

Coalisland v Edendork
Edendork looked good for the victory for the majority of the game, but Fianna's championship experience came to the fore in the closing stages. In the first half Edendork certainly had the measure of the Fianna, Morgan was on a lot of ball and Paul Donaghy was a good target up top. McCurry again is a joy to behold when roaming around, getting on ball and spreading passes. Michael McKernan lucky not to walk on a black card for the Fianna, which might have had a telling factor on the game. Hampsey played most of the game way back in full back, thought he'd advance up the field in the second half much earlier as they were chasing the game. Young Pete Herron very promising, caught the eye last year and has come on a lot since then. McNeice and O'Hagan from dead ball will be key in the final for Coalisland.

Tattyreagh v Gortin
Cracking game this. Tatts played the majority of the football in the first half but looked hesitant to shoot a lot of time, wherasGortin found scores easier to come by, and they took their goal very well. Meanwhile Tatts scuppered two goal opportunities. It looked like that goal might be the difference all the way through but serious credit to Tattyreagh to battle back, they never panicked with kamikaze ball into the box, just kept playing their hand-passing game and took a stranglehold of midfield. Monster score in the end to win it and their supporters were loving it. Serious passion from the two Brackaville men on the line. Gortin will be seeing this as an opportunity lost for an Intermediate title, Keenan and McAnenly had them well drilled and they have had a good league campaign. They look youthful so can build on this I'm sure.

Ardboe v Killyclogher
Thought the Rossa's had done enough to win this, but a fortuitous goal swung it back to Killyclogher and Ardboe were dead on their feet in extra time. Michael Lynn, Michael O'Neill and Conall Devlin very impressive young players for Ardboe, they'll be hoping to build a future team around those guys along with Mulgrew and Cassidy. Coney was orchestrating, trying to prise Killyclogher open with big passes, some came off and some didn't. Mattie Bell's hit on Bradley was fair, both went in for the ball. Bradley should have been nowhere near it after that, he came back on dazed and looked absolutely out of it. Super point from McCann to win it, talk about leadership. Should be a tight final, with Coalisland having learned a few lessons from 2016 in how to handle Bradley.

I think the the role of team captain should come into play here, if these types of situations continue to arise. Speaking about all clubs in the country, the on-field leader should be the man responsible for settling his team-mates, pulling them aside and speaking to them. Team management too should be tasked to do this as well, as by its very definition is management of the team.
Obviously infractions with supporters are another thing entirely, but a captain's responsibility should include the conduct of his players on the field. We see it in rugby, the captain is the spokesperson for the team to the ref, and while I'm not advocating imposing Rugby Union laws on our games, there are certainly aspects of the role of team captain that are the same.

Who all suspended? Hadn't heard that anything had been done.
Lucky to still be in the competition imo.
Heard there have been quite a few suspensions handed out, Stewartstown will be severely depleted on Saturday.

Have it on good authority that Ronan O'Neill will be leaving the Tyrone panel tomorrow (Friday June 8th)

Adds fuel to Sean Cavanaghs claim that flair players don't thrive under Harte in recent seasons

It will be soon time for the annual American vacation for a lot of young club players. Any word on who is planning to go stateside? Will be interesting to see how it pans out for clubs in terms of results
