Think this suggestion has some merit. Counties with a smaller club base need to start thinking of ways of improving their structures and developing their teams. Athlone is an ideal central base for any sports initiative, and Roscommon have got nothing from from the Connacht (prenty) council for years. Time to start thinking outside that particular box!

Brilliant, poignant article by Billy. I have grown to love his articles over the last year or two, the first column I now read in the Indo. Definitely got a piece of his old man's gift, and great at capturing the Kerry take on things.

See Mr Prenty has come rushing out to welcome the new proposal from the FRC. I'm sure he has consulted with all the other Connacht counties before proffering an opinion! (Wouldn't be anything to do with adding more games to help pay off McBale park...)

Accept your point crossbar but surely context has some bearing on events though. The background to this was a substandard refereering display which directly led to a All-Ireland winning team being evicted from the competition, months of training down the drain and the probable retirement of some quality players.  If the suspensions stand, I'm sure they will be accepted and we'll move on. Bitter taste left though, and Duffy will have lost any vestiges of respect from Roscommon.

Duffy is only compounding a disgraceful performance that Brigids had the decency to accept and get on with. If it was a different club there would have been ructions after his handling of the Connacht final. Any neutral review of that match-refereeing could only conclude the guy is out of his depth. This further citing following his report confirms it.

Have to say Frankie's point from ~50 yds out straight in front of goal with players closing and no sidestep was pure class. This was when the game was in the pot with a few minutes to go. That type of quality is so rare, privilege to have seen you play the game boy. Other than that agree Duffy had a really poor reffing display, not good enough when two good teams are committing everything to the fray. Brigids the better side in normal time but good luck to Castlebar from here on.

Brigids have been the success story of Roscommon since the 2006 minor win. They fear no-one, are mentally tough, have talented players and are professional in their approach. They were also the first team to really crack the Crossmaglen hegemony and impose their own game on Ballymun in the final. They can lift their game to remarkable heights depending on the opposition they are playing. I genuinely think they will overcome Castlebar in a tough low scoring encounter, but would recommend to all neutrals to watch for moments of brilliance throughout the game. They've had their share of luck (both good and bad) but represented both Roscommon and Connaught with distinction over the years.
