Fury knows how to raise his profile, can't believe his singing.  Was an entertaining fight though, showed balls to attack instead of sitting back after the knock down.

I see that Matthew Macklin has signed up to fight Gennady Golovkin.  Can't see anything but a KO win for GG.  Macklin isn't anything special either, I suppose he gets a bit of attention as he is someone that the Irish media like to class as one of their own.

Macklin is pretty clearly in the top five-seven worldwide at his weight, one of the most competitive weights in the sport at that. He already has one world title win under his belt, whatever the German judges think. Less of the glib.

Our lovely Mayo neighbour looks after the due cows when we're off on the big days, must be some tough gents around your parts. In his words "sure I don't care unless it's an All-Ireland final and that's only to cry"

Hopefully they've left plenty of time free after the match for the reems of jubilant Ros interviews and Joey B's budding man love for Senan Kilbride.

After a semi-final. I'd say they'll be playing up the opposition if they win.

T'would be rude to refuse requests for a chat from our adoring media - we have better manners than that in Ros.

(No offense, Tyrone  8))

That Armagh team were far form one hit wonders. Everyone here still talks about the AISFs we had with Armagh in that era. 1977 may have been an opening bell but they showed themselves to be a quality team afterwards.

Joe Kernan, in his book, reckons that Kerry were a bit shit in 1980, and that Roscommon, or Armagh had they not blown it in the semi final, had them for the taking in the final if they'd shown a bit more belief. He could be talking shite for all I know, but it was interesting that he seemed to have more regrets about that year than the year they lost the final.

We went 1-2 to no score up on them and still lost - Kerry only ended up with 1-9 so we were almost halfway home after 10 minutes.

It took Dermot Earley 20 years before he could bare to watch the tape of the match because he felt he let everyone down. As if the big man could ever let anyone down, but the sentiment has always been that they were far from invincible that year. If we'd won the semi in 1977 or lost in 1980 and Armagh played in the final the extra experience of the big day would probably have been enough to see either over the line.

The drive for five should have been driven into a ditch long before Seamus Darby got his shot.

Game in NY definitely should stay......... if for nothing else a day for the New York GAA people to meet up.

Well then lat the rest of the Counties travel on their turns then, not just the Connacht ones.
At least then we'd only have to go there once every 30 years.
But one way or the other the stupidity of having to go there in October to play a bloody FBD League final should be ended immediately.

Enjoy having Donegal in Connacht so. The Exiles are the best fireguard we have against Connacht being filled with the refuse from other provinces if (and more than likely, when) they redraw the championship.

Only play Amhrán na bhFiann in Ruislip mind you.
I believe the Connacht Council give a small amount to the travelling County but if you want to bring your full panel, management and Co board offeeshals it entails an awful lot of expense on the travelling County.
After Galway's near disaster a few years ago the it is obvious that management/players are now avoiding the whole circus around the trip and as a result are winning by embarrassing amounts.
If NY want to play in the championship let them play the All Ireland JFC winners for the Junior Title as that is obviously all they are fit for.
And it might get a few more Counties to enter Junior teams seeing as 3 of connacht's five have opted out this year.

You mean the championship we don't even bother our arses playing in ourselves? If we don't respect it why the hell would people in New York?

That's the Kilkenny British championship argument, out of sight out of mind. Difference here is New York GAA actually take it very serious and are very much sincere in their efforts. If costs are curtailed properly the price tag is more than manageable if everyone chips in.

Just finished watching the season 3 finale of Breaking Bad. Probably the best piece of television I've ever seen.

Let New york GAA pay for it then.
Sure with the tales of alleged  costs of hiring imports from Ireland during the year US$100k would be mere pocket money for them.

I think they (the GAA) should move towards a co-payment system where all parties stump up part of the cost. Does the GAA mothership offer any supports? I assume New York GAA bankroll all the functions and after-match events themselves so those costs need to be added into the equation too.

The worst thing we could do is take the game way from men and women who for whatever reason have had to emigrate from this island. At the end of it all some things are worth more than money and this is one of them.

QuoteThe €60/70k cost could be put to more use in doing something for youngsters in Connacht.

Breakdown? Christ if thats the cost i fully agree. A joke.
It cost Ros around that in total last time they went in 2011. Party of say 40 - return flights and 5 or 6 nights and meals etc.
Then the NYers were complaining that the players weren't made available for fundraising social activities.
Also the FBD winners (Leitrim this year) have to go there annually to play a "final" as well.
Time for a re-think.

The FBD final is over-kill but the championship match should stay. It's way more than a game and I'd hate the GAA to abandon the biggest day in New York's GAA calender for something as monumentally short-sighted as cost-savings.
