Now that Brennan has been officially appointed, does anyone know what quality of selectors/coaches he has with him?

Just heard that Ray Dempsey got the Minor job tonight at CB meeting. Ivors not appointed. Third manager to fall this year. Looks as if the CB dont like their managers to get their feet under the table. Brennan got the Hurling job.

Pats, If your staying in Leitrim, why not check out the Connacht Football Championship, which will be finishing up in July. Youd never know, Leitrim might be in it. Tickets priced around €25 are available from www.connachtgaa.ie or pay at the gate if Leitrim are in it.

2007 Connacht SFC dates and venues

May 13: New York v Sligo, Gaelic Park, New York;
May 20: Galway v Mayo, Pearse Stadium, Galway;
May 27: London v Leitrim, Ruislip, London;
June 17: Semi-final – New York/Sligo v Roscommon, Hyde Park, Roscommon;
June 24: Semi-final – Galway/Mayo v Leitrim/London, Carrick-on-Shannon or McHale Park.
July 8: venue to be confirmed.

GY Joe - There is, but the County Board wont allow that to happen as it looks bad on them and anyway, they are making a nice bit out of the hurling with all thats coming in from Croke Park/Guinness/Allianz/Christy Ring/SportsCouncil. Thes figures are never disclosed but all involved in hurling know what it amounts to.

"What kind of seafoid is this to be goin' on with Maradona. Do ya want to give us all heart attacks this close to Christmas?"

Thats the first time Ive ever seen "Seáfoid" written down, I think its a Mayo word, but looks foreign. Anyone know where the word derives from?

PS: Never thought Id see Maradona in the same sentence as "Seáfoid" either.

Kilty did a foundation SAQ course in Bangor Erris last March and did the Level1 there a few weeks ago in Castlebar. Didnt get to the Level1. He's an amiable chap who is very committed to whatever he does. The courses were ran by Mayo County Council Sports Partnership.

Thanks Saffron. Tourlestrane, Ballinode and Aghamore all have good lights, so Id say this will be a floodlit competition.

Seanie, Any fixtures for the hurling competition in Connacht. Heard there was a Shield section this year....

Membership to the GPA is open to all current intercounty players and all former intercounty players, so once your on it, you dont come off unless you wish to come off. So Peter the great is probably still a member, but youll have to ask him that. Rumour has it that membership will be opened to all club players in the coming years.

So skull what county board are you an officer of.

GAA Discussion / Underdogs or even 'Dirty Dogs'
November 23, 2006, 11:05:33 PM
Was anyone watching the underdogs this evening where the two boyos in charge of the team, messrs O'Domhnaill and Mullins thought it would be a great treat for the girls to strip them down to their bikinis and run them into the sea in what looked like arctic conditions. The two boyos had eyes like saucers on them and big grins as the 20 odd young girls with pert nipples showed off what they had..... Best GAA Ive watched in a long time, well done lads. What will it be next week? Maybe a bit of pole dancing to releive any long term backache. When is the repeat on again..........

GAA Discussion / Re: Harte calls for GAA World Series

Micky may have a case here. It would be great to reward the club Champions at each grade by allowing them to represent Ireland in an International competition. The AI club championship at Junior, Intermediate & Senior would get an even bigger boost if a holiday was on offer to the winning team and to represent Ireland in the process. However, it would have to be graded so that no mismatches occur in the one-off Finals Match. Here's how it could be done:

Senior Football World Series (In New York)
Salthill/Knocknacarra v New York

Intermediate Football World Series (In London)
Irish Intermediate Champions (Carberry I think) v London

Junior Football World Series (In Paris)
Irish Junior Champs (Finuge) v European XV

Would these games be mismatches? Would it work?

Was watching a program last week and heard that nearly 24,000 attend UCD. He also said it was the same population as county Leitrim. Ok half are female and half that left arent involved in sports - but that still leaves about 6,000 lads between 18 and 25 who are eligible to play. Remember also that these guys are probably inteligent, come from a good family background and have a few € in the background supporting them.

Thats some pick - it would be very easy to get two teams out of that to win a Dublin County Title - never mind one. The O'Cuív situation is disgracefull in that 8 teams are held up for one player. It cannot be justified....

Westport couldnt field. Gave the game to Ballina. To be fair they were beaten in the Senior about two months ago and closed up shop for the year. Ballina (without two county players) now play Tooreen (without six county players) in the Genfitt League Final. Will probably be played in Ballyvary next Sunday week.

Niall McNamee from Rhode played for UCD earlier in the season. He had to chose who to play for in the Leinster Championship. Farcical indeed. Theres no problem with them playing in the Dublin Championship, but when they go further it gets a little bit farcical....
