Meath

Football: I'll stick my neck out and say we'll win Leinster.
Hurling: Tip away like we always do.

Look, Roscommon are favourites. You needn't present evidence to the contrary as I'll just ignore it (fingers in ears "la,la,la,la,la, I am not listening") ;D

It'll be interesting to see if Maughan can win that elusive national title - in Croker and against Meath. Memories eh?  ;)

Ros seem to have a few injury problems though while Meath are full strength(?) so I presume they are favourites. Any word on the odds? Here's hoping for a good game but I think I speak for most Mayo people when I say that we wouldn't know who to support.  :P

Roscommon are definitely favourites for this one.

Don't know about that one Jinxy. Meath hammered us off the field in Navan 8 months ago in the Tommy Murphy cup. We are without our most influential player in Shaq O'Neill and John Nolan our first choice centre half is out with a chest infection. His two replacements John Woggie Nolan (yes there are two of them) and Darragh Donnelly are also both out. Hardly makes us favourites to beat a Meath team who dismissed Monaghan (who also beat us well at the start of the league this year) without the likes of Geraghty and a few other first choice players even starting.

Who'd have thunk there were 2 Woggie Nolans in the world. ???

P.S. Roscommon are favourites (no comebacks!)

Its not just older members that watch All ireland Gold. I love it. The best nights viewing I had in ages was the Meath-Kildare '97 replay they showed a couple of weeks ago. I quite enjoy the aussie rules but FFS don't get rid of a quality programme to make space for it. What happened to showing the aussie rules on saturday night? Keep all ireland gold where it is, but show more games from the nineties!

Look, Kerry got their ass kicked by Tyrone in 2003, just like Tyrone got their ass kicked by Meath in '96. You don't hear them whinging about it years later. ;D ;D

Seanie, just add 1988 and 1996, to 1987 and 1999 and forget the rest in between! Oh, the glory days. ;D

He was in the Indo today as well telling us how brilliant he thinks Meath are. ::)  Sure they haven't a hope.

I honestly think the 90's were the golden era for gaelic football. Far superior to what went before and came after. Think of all the great games. Meath-Dublin '91, Donegal-Dublin '92, Derry-Down '94, Meath-Kildare '97  and so on. The general skill level was much higher than the 70's and early 80's and there was still a high level of physical intensity. Golden era for hurling too.

Well done to all concerned. Get them involved with their local clubs and we're on the pigs back.

I think if Meath are up for it they'll give anyone a game. The only game they were up for last year was the Laois game which they made a balls of in the last few minutes. In 2005 they were up for the Dublin game and only lost to 2 Mark Vaughan free kicks from the back of the Hill! (or so it seemed). The problem is that we haven't leaders with the same mental strength as we had a few years ago. The sort of fellas that dig in and grind out a result when the tide is turning against them. I'll be honest here, I wouldn't be surprised if Kildare bet us out the gate, but I also wouldn't be surprised if we bet them out the gate. Consistency is our problem.

QuoteWhat age is he now? He seems to have been around forever.

Severs is about 38/39 I think and still very effective in senior club football too.

God he must look after himself fierce well. Mind you, I think if you can avoid knee or back trouble you can easily carry on playing into your late thirties. I suppose there's a lot of luck involved in it.

The 95 All Ireland Final, Charlie Redmond should have got off the pitch when he was sent off and Paddy Russell should for once make a good decision and allow Tyrones genuine equalising point to stand.

The 2005 Ulster Final should have been won by the better team, and not won by Armagh due to the incorrect dismissal of the teams top 2 forwards (SON & Canavan) when the side were comfortably leading.  How the ref sent Canavan off for being dragged around the ground amazes me still, and how the hoor who dragged him was only shown a second yello in comparison with Peter the Greats straight red is unbelievable(I also feel for Marsden 03 - disgrace, still sickens me seeing Jordan play acting on the floor like a bitch!).  If the referee did his job properly then he could have stopped the most irritating GAA picture ever from being taken:

Never saw that Geezer pic before. I did hear a rumour though, the last thing he shouted at his team-mates before charging out of the dressing room at half-time was "Lets win this one for the hardworking photographers out there!!"

Good player Paul Finlay, but he had a bad day at the office saturday. That picture pretty much sums it up!
