Predictions?

Trillick V Coalisland.  - Trillick
Pomeroy V Clonoe.   - clonoe
Omagh V Greencastle.  - omagh
Carrickmore V Errigal Ciaran.  -Errigal
only 2 of the last 8 without O Neill cup medals in the team.  They are all intriquing in their own way. Could this be warrior and legend Conor Gormleys last game of football-  themselves and Greencastle would be dismissed by most pundits - they'll not mind that one bit.   Can Greencastle continue to improve and meet what looks like an increasingly dangerous pacy and experienced Omagh team who have only lost 2 championship games in the last 2 years.  How good are Pomeroy, they are now unbeaten in Tyrone championship from 2015 - that game could be a clinker.  Clonoe have to fancy themselves for a wee run.  What about Trillick though.  Seem to have been in cruise control for a couple of years can they get it back.  Mattie Donnelly has been a shadow of his former self  - this championship may well bring him back to his own high levels.

Not that impressive? Apart from the winners all teams will have lost 2 championship games in 2 years

Il Bomber Destro - You slate Mc Carron -

"I thought defensively we were hugely exposed against Dublin - McNamee, McCrory and McCarron in particular. McCarron looks like his legs are gone"

An then you name him in your team!!!!!!!! Strange

Hardly strange when there's little better options. I also concluded that we need to be wiser in who we match him up against and signed it off with a horses for courses analogy. Try paying more attention next time around.

You wrote that much I got bored. But you did state Mc Carron should -

"marking bigger and more static men"

How many Countys now line out with big non mobile full forwards you want him to mark??

Well Dublin started one on the edge of the square last weekend. Donegal may decide to move Murphy back in there this year. Monaghan use Jack McCarron there, he picked up Aidan O'Shea inside last year - so to answer your question - quite a few.

Kerry - Donaghy

Fermanagh - Sean Quigley
Derry - Carlos McWilliams
Down - Connaire Harrison

Harrison would skin McCarron every time and I've never seen McWilliams ever play full forward for derry or even for his club.
Well you haven't lived.

Can back lenny up. The closest you will have seen Carlos Playing full forward for Derry is wearing number 15 playing a sweeping role. If people are calling him Derry's full forward they haven't a clue or else have made a mistake.

Typical townies. Fill the togs when it comes to the championship

Wasn't too long ago Bellaghy celebrated nothing other than a senior championship. Suppose after a barren spell beggers cant be choosers and u14 championships will do

After the steep learning curve of the disappointment of Derry's comprehensive   All Ireland Minor defeat, no doubt Damian McErlain and his management team will have realised the futility of persisting with a game plan which does not include the presence of a sweeper or the concept of a top player(albeit a phenomenally physically developed and extraordinarily talented individual in the case of David Clifford) being double - marked in the modern game.

That said and that harsh lesson undoubtedly learned I have no doubt that both Damian and his Minor players will bounce back  to replicate the magnificent individual and team performances that they have cumulatively given over the course of the last three years. The talent both on and off the field is definitely there.Their biggest tactical challenge is to learn from the mistakes of the past and to adapt accordingly.

Players like Conor McCluskey,Oisin and Lorcan McWilliams,Callum Brown,Declan Cassidy( surprisingly not given much game time during the minor campaign),Paddy Quigg and Padraig McGrogan are only some of the players from this year's minor squad who have the ability to develop into top class Senior inter county players.Others when they develop physically have the skill sets to join them.

So despite the mistakes of last Sunday Damian McErlain has  restored pride and confidence in Derry football again.Everyone will wish him well as he attempts  to ensure that all the best players will be available for inter county Senior duty when he announces his new panel in the coming weeks.

By the way  does anyone know when  the County Board will announce the management teams for Derry's U17 and U20 teams for next year?

Any idea who could get these jobs?

Seamus Downey has done great work with Lavey underage and should surely be considered.

would a Magherafelt player go near it if that was the case, and I am not trying to be smart either.

It would be bad form for Magherafelt player to turn down the chance to represent their county because the manager of a rival is taking the team. That sort of bickering should be left at club level.

On a side note - Enda Quinn (Magherafelt's main underage manager the past 4/5 years) has won twice what Seamus Downey has won at underage level the past few years. Saying that he seems to stick to the u12-16 age groups as I don't recall him taking a minor team? Open to correction though

Would you describe it as bickering, has it not moved beyond that? Total disrespect is a more accurate description?

Magherafelt and Lavey seem to be forming a rivalry from underage up, however if it would be the wrong stance to take to not play for your county because Seamus Downey is in charge. Whether it be bickering, fighting, disrespect or whatever you want to call it

Are clubs still asked to name 12 players? I know it used to happen but I haven't heard much discussion around that.

Were these 12 players not allowed to play Reserve Championship, or any reserve games including league?

And to add to my confusion Derry have been drawn at home to Waterford but must play away at Fraher Field.

If two teams are pulled out to play each other and one has played at home in the championship and one has played away then the team that hasn't played at home yet will be given home advantage for the qualifier game.

if both team have played at home/away - the team that was pulled out first will get home advantage.

Eg - Derry were pulled out first, then Waterford. However in their previous championship games Derry were at home to Tyrone and Waterford were away to Cork. Meaning Waterford now have home advantage.

And as a Derry man I now have 10hours of driving ahead of me to watch the match  :o :o

Thanks for that Toby.  Antrim have just had a horrendous run of luck then over the last number of years having only had one home draw in Ulster Championship since 2010 and regularly drawing teams in qualifiers away that are eligible for a home tie in said qualifier.

One home draw in 7 years is horrible luck.

You'd also imagine with the home advantage system in the Qualifiers you would have had a few more home games however it doesn't always work like that.

"Cathal McCarron is in a race against time to be fit for Tyrone's Ulster SFC opener against Derry.

The experienced defender sustained a hamstring injury during an in-house game at Garvaghey last week and was unavailable to his club, Dromore, for their clash with Carrickmore over the weekend.

McCarron's clubmate Niall Sludden was also rested at the weekend but is expected to be fully fit for the provincial quarter-final at Celtic Park on May 28th.."
