GAA Discussion / Re: NFL Division 3 2015

Congrats to both Armagh and Fermanagh on promotion to division 2, happy with our own campaign, think we are easily the best of the rest in the division and another year in division 3 with such a young team might not be any harm. Decent win for us today, we were missing some crucial players and knowing before throw in promotion was gone but still dug it out. We lost Colin o'riordan in the second half to a nasty looking injury, didnt look much in it but he needed almost 20mins treatment, hopefully it was more precautionary than anything else.

5 Apr 2015 3pm    Sligo    v    Armagh    Markievicz Park

Armagh & Fermanagh as good as promoted here.

Wexford look like they're gone with Fermanagh at home and away to Tipp.

Limerick have two ok games where they might get something out of one of them - if they do, it could come down to points difference.

Don't think everything is as set in stone as you think. Must win game for Wexford at home to fermanagh, wouldn't say a shock is beyond them and If that was to happen there would be heaps of pressure on fermanagh for their final away game to Clare, this is providing we beat Sligo that is. If fermanagh do get the win/draw needed for promotion then Wexford would play us in their last game and we would have the munster  under 21 final midweek after that so wouldn't be playing them lads, 5 of our starters are on that. I do believe fermanagh will go up and Wexford go down but will have to wait and see

This is all crystal ball stuff though as regards Roscommon, Ye keep making reference to a model that has yet to produce anything remotely successful at senior level. Now it may well come to fruit and in fairness it's looking increasingly likely but I repeat this model has not produced any final results as of yet.

Some people still reckon come the White Heat of senior championship these gausuns will be still trailing behind Higgins,Boyle and co.

Like roscommon we put aa a plan in place 10 years ago or so for football and yes we're not exactly winning all Irelands or anything but we are lightyears away from where we were. This year we are in our 7th muster under 21 final in 9 years, had massive success at minor and our seniors are in the best position we've been in in an awfully long time. Definitely merit to getting your house in order and having a plan.

Decent win for us last night, we look strong defensively and around the middle but are lacking a bit up front

Results very nearly fell our way but with Fermanagh getting that last grasp draw in Armagh I think that pretty much wraps up promotion. I could see fermanagh losing one of wexford away, which should be must win or clare away last day but not both. We should bar a terrible run of results be able to stay in division 3 this year and it might be the best thing for us, not sure if we are quiet ready for the step up yet to division 2.

On the clare match yesterday, after a bad first half we really stepped it up in the 2nd and moved the ball through our hands at pace, we also completely nullified clares short kickouts all game and put real pressure on them. Clare were poor on the day.

Despite louths terrible performance today they do seem like a completely different team at home, next week will be a good test, hopefully we can get the win and win out our final two games, looks like its a case of getting some good confidence back in the team at this stage

Great result for Fermanagh today. Very impressive all over the pitch.
Our fitness stood to us today.
Armagh up next on Saturday night.

I must say, today was as bad as ive seen us play under our current management, fermanagh thoroughly deserved the victory, we we on top early but went for hollywood scores while 4-1 up and it all went down hill from there. Promotion is well and truely in fermanaghs hands now but with 3 of the 4 remaining fixtures away there is still plenty of footballl to be played. Well done on todays result

County London maybe?!!

Roscommon should take 16 at least.

On a serious note, I am looking for tipp in the next 5/6 years to go on and win a munster.

League table after 2 rounds

Round 3 fixtures

Fermanagh V Tipperary.  Big match for both teams, I do feel we will edge it but I wouldnt be putting money on it, winner here will be strong favourite to go up.

Clare v Sligo.  Clare should bounce back and win here, looking likely from early season form that sligo will really struggle to stay up

Limerick v Armagh.  Having seen limerick first hand Armagh will have a very easy victory here

Louth v Wexford.  Still not sure of what to make of louth and also not sure if wexford are really as bad as their first two games suggest, ill go for louth based on being at home but wouldnt be surprised if wexford did pull off a win.

Following a request from Limerick the CCCC have changed the venue of the Limerick v Armagh game to Kilmallock. Do the GAA give a damn about supporters? A long journey has been made even longer at a time of the year when driving conditions are poor. Might just stay at home now.

Any context as to why they actually wanted to change it? Might be a legitimate reason

Delighted. Great game, DCU had the answer every time UCC came back. Tadhg MotM. Perfect.

Obviously I'm biased but for me stephen o brien deserved motm, was outstanding throughout.

1 game touchline ban for Peter creedon after criticising coldrick after the Armagh game.

Think we will make the munster final but come up short, we beat cork once and kerry twice at minors in 2012 but are missing our best two forwards in philip quirke and coleman kennedy and without these think we'll lack the firepower required.

GAA Discussion / Re: Cynical and Negative Armagh?
February 11, 2015, 10:06:06 AM
Didn't read all the posts but here's my take from our first game against them. And maybe with us being mostly on top in the second half v them they could have changed things for the wexford game.

There was very little cynicism from them in the game, few off the ball things but both teams were at it, nothing over the top though. We could have been more cynical late on for clarkes scores and fouled outside the scoring zone.

Defensive.....like everyone else these days both teams set up very defensively, but where as we mainly once turned over the ball attacked with two half backs and one sitting getting numbers up armagh when turning it it still left 3 or 4 players back sweeping along with players marking whoever stayed up from us

Armagh surely have to up - if they don't Geezer will surely be handed his walking papers.
Armagh won't try to get rid of geezer. In fact I don't think they could get rid of him. 5 year contract and all that

It's not an actual contract of employment; in the unlikely event that Armagh didnt get out of Division 3 Geezer would surely fall on his sword given he was taking about challenging for Sam when he took over.

1 year in Division 3 will do enough damage to Armagh's finances, a 2nd year would be a complete catastrophe.

A catastrophe? How do you work that out? Its not soccer. Will they lose out on Champions league money?

When the Armagh County board publish their accounts next year, you'll be able to see the difference clearly in their income as a result of being in Division 3.

I'm probably overstating it a bit with catastrophe but the finances will take a serious hit (if they are there for a second year, then it wil be even harder)- the thing is that it isn't going to be the senior footballers who suffer from any shortages in money - it will be other areas of the county that take the hit.

QuoteArmagh are one of the best supported countys in the country considering how small per head we actually are. I would even say the more of an underdog we are the more we tend to get behind them. For the first time in a long while the right people seem to be in charge regarding finance in the CB and missing out on promotion will now make or break Armagh. Dont get me wrong on the pitch its a must for this team, however, i dont know where the facts are or how you've come to this conclusion but i'll have to strongly disagree with you on that one.

Armagh fans outnumbered wexford 3/1 yesterday with an estimated 2000 Armagh fans traveling.

I think that sort've puts that argument to bed.

Brilliant support, fair play especially when you look at the tipp limerick game which could only draw less than 600.
