Plus from what i am led to believe they voted at christmas as per Johhny Giles last night
And your point is?

What Billy Boots said
Who is best Premiership player over the whole of this season then?

Drogba

Jamie Carragher has been outstanding for Liverpool as well but because Ronaldo does all his fancy tricks and flicks he gets all the media coverage,Ronaldo is a prima donna who loves himself and is way too incosistent for me.He's great against Fulham etc but in two games against Milan he hardly touched the ball
He's a fancy Dan and nothing else in my opinion

Is the premiership player of the year not for performances in the premiership alone? If so Ronaldo is as entitled to it as anyone, he's scored 16 goals from midfield and was also directly involved (gave the final pass) in 16 others, thats 32,over one third of MU's total  of 82.Some premiership teams haven't even scored that many.
By the way I'm no fan of MU nor am I Portugese.

Lads did Leeds not get to the playoffs last year? Or close to it? - I find it hard to believe that Risdale is being blamed for THIS relegation as well. Kevin Blackwell did a decent job there, he had to sell sell sell - & he apperared to get a bit of stability at the club, then they sacked him!

Although Leeds got to the play offs last year their record from January 2006 to the end of season was
Won - 7
Drew - 9
Lost - 4

that's 30 points out of a possible 60

their record from March to the end of season was

W - 2
L   - 3
D  - 7

9 pts from 36

These stats aren't that of a team in form.Blackwell did a good job in stabiling the team in 2005/06 and was given the chance to see if he could bring them any further in 2006/07 but as the early results went this wasn't to be the case and therefore his contract was terminated.

Risdale is not being blamed for relegation he is being blamed for bringing about the demise of the club and then sipping champagne over it.Risdale was directly responsible for putting the club in £100m + in debt, which resulted in any assets the club had being sold off (which included ER & TA), and also the trade off of top quality players where the club still had to pay part their wages. This left the club in a position where they couldn't afford to bring in any decent quality players and were working from month to month with loanees who were mostly journeymen.

Heading for administration this week alledgedly.

Aye heard that this morning. There are emergency meetings taking place today at Elland Road. Apparently they can save between 5 and 15 million by going into admin (don't ask me how that works). However they will be deducted 10 points next season by the FA for this so we will be on -10 in August!

Just when you think we have hit rock bottom the ground falls from under us again....

Not too sure how it works but heard that the points would be deducted in the season a club goes into administration. If this is the case and Leeds go into adminstration before the weekend the effectively they'll have gone into adimin in the 2006/07 season and therefore will be deducted the points now rather than next season, (provided they come out of admin next season).Does anyone know if this is the case or not?

We could've done without this

From Hogan Stand

Brady admits dual toll

Paul Brady
20 April 2007

Cavan dual star Paul Brady has admitted that his days playing both handball and football at the highest level may be coming to an end.

Brady will compete in the All-Ireland 40x20 senior doubles final in Limerick at 12 noon (tomorrow) before heading to Croke Park to play for Cavan against Roscommon in the NFL Division Two semi-final at Croke Park (7.45pm).

"It's a bit of a disaster but, sure, it has to be done," said the Mullahoran clubman.

"I just don't think about it too much because if you did, you'd fry your brain.

"To me it is normal to play either handball or football every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but it has been a bit hectic.

"At 27, the body's beginning to feel it more and more, so I probably won't be able to do it for much longer."

In my opinion this whole thing about playing in Croke Park is getting out of hand.Yes it's great for the team to get the chance to play in Croker for the experience alone, but at the end of the day it's a Div 2 semi final, let's not get carried away.As Myles says it a stepping stone and a bonus to be in Croker.
It's not too long ago that we played the Rossies in a Div 1 semi in Mullingar. There was a time when getting to Croker meant you were either in an AI semi or final, or the National League final, in those cases there would be something to shout about.Sure nowadays most Leinster Championship games are played there, games in the Rackard,Ring and Murphy Cups have being played there, as have Ulster Championship games.
The first objective of this management team was promotion which they achieved,it would be good to get two more competitive victories under their belt before the Down game (as one of only 3 undefeated teams in the league ,why not?),but if they don't, it won't be the end of the world.

Quoteyeah i looked up the TG4 Schedule and the games aren't there.Hopefully it will encourage more people to go cos i know quiet a few lazy fcukers who weren't going to go.

Were you as eager to get them same lazy fcukers into Breffni or Casement or Navan etc.? If the game was anywhere else other than Croker would you be as eager to get them to go?

For the benefit of Ky Auvin men everywhere.

Directions

Croke Park is situated in north Dublin between Drumcondra and Ballybough and is bordered by Jones's Road to the west, Clonliffe Road to the north, St. James Avenue to to the east and the Royal Canal to the south.

The stadium is well served by public transport.  Bus, Rail, DART and LUAS can all bring you to less than a 15 minute walk from the ground.  Croke Park have recently launched an initiative to encourage greater use of public transport by visitors to the stadium.  A specially commissioned map has been launched to demonstrate how close Croke Park is to a host of public transport solutions.  Croke Park is situated in a residential area with only limited parking available on match days and local residents expect to use this parking.  And remember the authorities will be continuing their policy of clamping in the area on match days. Why risk spoiling a great day out?

Onsite parking at the stadium is only available for non-match and non-concert events.

Take the stress out of travelling to Croke Park.  Download Map and Public Transport Guide

Please note that tickets are no longer available for the Nally Stand

Sure what would a Monaghan man know about going to Croke Park, they've only being there a handful of times in the history of the GAA and even then they stop in Cavan to ask directions.  :)

There is ample parking for asses and carts in the grounds of Clonliffe College. A glossary of driving and parking terms and how they are translated for use with articulated donkey-and-cart units follows:

Start = Yaaaah
Reverse = Hike
Go forward = G’up
Go forward a little more = G’up owwa dah
Stop = Wo
Stop immediately! = Wo ya hoor ya
Will I mind yer car mister = Give me money or I’ll ate one of yer ass’s legs

Thanks for the info Hardy, with such a grand knowledge of the nags its easy to see how you picked 3 of the first 4 home in the National.  :)
Unlike yourselves in Meath we in Cavan have moved on from the donkey and cart.We now have whats known in the wider world as automobiles and buses, so you see theres no need for the stone throwing, they're not big bad monsters, just forms of transport. Some day ye will appreciate that and tie up the auld donkey.  :D

The Celt has being no great shakes for years , but sure we got by.Since the Scottish Dunferline Press group took it over in 2004 it has rapidly gone downhill. The amount of times pictures or articles are being duplicated in each edition is unreal, and now it seems they're even duplicating articles from previous issues. Also I feel as if the Celt has being pulling the wool over our eyes for years. Why sell a local paper for €1.85??(I think thats the price now as they keep changing it so often),and then bring out a free paper with local news, surely it could all be put in the one paper (maybe this is the reason for the duplications).

BTW fair play to Peter Quinn and his buddies for giving us the makings of a very good paper in the Cavan Echo, keep up the good work.

On the Gaynor thing (yawn), he made his bed by going to Oz when the team we're in the hard slog, would that be Keogan's reasoning?

This doesn't hold, at least one other current player (who played most of the league games),had opted out and didn't join the panel until after the McKenna Cup.

Call me an old cynic, but ask yourself of the 4 teams in contention, which do you think would be Monaghan's preferred opponent and potential relegation rival in Div 2 next season ....????

Of course this assumes that Monaghan consider themselves potential relegation candidates next season, which they probably don't ...

Not that you may be sugesting anything ,but if Leitrim and Roscommon win their remaining games, then they would  have to play off against each other for second spot (as scoring differences won't count).

Football League Division 2A
Team               P  W  D  L    F       A      +/-    Pts
1 Monaghan       6   6   0  0  4-90   5-48    39    12
2 Roscommon    6   4   0  2  6-71   6-58    13     8
3 Longford         6   2   1  3  13-70 3-76    24     6
4 Offaly             6  3   1  2   6-81  6-59    22     6
5 Leitrim            5  3    0 2   6-54  3-57     6      6
6 Clare              6  3    0 3   6-68  6-67     1      6

8 London           5  0   0  5   4-37 11-83   -67     0

Remaining Fixtures
April 8
London v Leitrim

April 15
Londain v Ceatharlach
Longfort v An Clár
Liatroim v Muineachán
Uíbh Fhailí v Ros Comáin

If we can assume
1)that Leitrim beat London by say less than 20 points, and in turn they lose their last match to Monaghan, they will have 8 pts but less of a scoring difference to Longford or Offaly.
2)that Longford and Offaly win their last games
3) Offaly win their game by 3 more points than Longford win theirs

Then your left with a scenario where Offaly would advance to Div 2 at Longfords expense, even though Offaly were deemed to have lost their game with Longford, but Longford didn't gain scoring wise.
Would it be in order then for Offaly & Longford to play off for Div 2?

Ah sure, maybe I'm just making things more confusing.

Although as a Cavan man will be hoping that both Roscommon and Monaghan win their final games and then we will eventually get our day out in Croker on 21st.

But it will mean LESS kids playing.

Ok so a small parish club are struggling to field the bare 15 players each week. Their best 4 players fancy "upgrading" clubs and leave.
That leaves 11 players without a club as they cant field a team and the club folds.

Unless all 11 move to the big club too, fast forward a few years and the small club is obsolete and we have sprawling superclubs with no soul.

This doesnt mean I am a "clown" or "living 20 years ago" Indiana so cut out the patronising shite.

Its means 15 players don't get a game, the 11 that are left behind and the 4 players from the bigger club who have being displaced.
If this were allowed to continue each county would end up with less clubs and therefore less players, but on the flip side, they'd have more competitive clubs and as a result the football should be of a higher standard.

Sure come to think of it isn't that what most counties are doing anyway (or maybe it's just Cavan),having a panel of 30 or so players and only letting them play with their clubs on the county boards terms.

Also the final games in 2A have being put back a week due to the London/Leitrim postponed game. This division is very tight with Monaghan the winners, but the next 5 places are very tight. If Roscommon were to beat Offaly in the last game they would more than likely be sending the faithful county to Div 4 and the Tommy Murphy.

A pity about not clinching promotion yesterday is that the Waterford game could have been used to give a few blokes some much needed game time, Lyng and Rabbitte.

Keoghan was interviewed on NS after the game and he said that Rabbitte had another setback at training on Tues night and it was unlikely he'd play any part in the league.
