Then you're a mind reader.
Afaia, Colm Cavanagh is a tough combative player but never a scúmbag, so he has my benefit of the doubt.

You need to look again at the tackle and the level of frustration being experienced by a player not just with the way the game was going but with the failure of his colleagues to play with an equal level of intensity.

GAA Discussion / Re: Where now for Tyrone?
August 28, 2017, 12:45:14 PM
Looks like the Tyrone development squad conveyor belt is producing plenty of the same type of player but not enough or any outstanding athletes who can play football.  Like in a number of other counties, the development squad/academy method is not paying dividends in terms of the quality of players coming through.  Is the coaching of these squads good enough?  The u21 failures over a period of 5/6 years are coming home to roost.

Criticism of Harte needs to be tempered in that he is doing the best with the players coming through.  His defensive method was a development of the McGuinness method and is a result of not having the players needed to beat enough other teams with a more attacking mode.  He can only work with the players in his squad and while some selections are head scratching, there is not a list of players being shouted out by Tyrone posters as alternatives who have been ignored.

The lack of intensity from Tyrone yesterday was the most disappointing thing.

The goal for a start was as a result of Sludden overhitting a simple hand pass, Dublin breaking and McNamee making the most pathetic attempt you'd see to stop O'Callaghan. If you look at the contrast with Dublin yesterday, they were hunting in packs, they were checking runs and niggling at their markers, the rare time a man got into a dangerous area he was stopped fairly or unfairly, but he was stopped. There was none of that from Tyrone yesterday which made it all the more disappointing.

Tyrone this year have been retreating back and then hitting teams on the 45 and turning them over, today was disgraceful. Dublin were allowed work the ball into the 30 yard line without a glove on them. Andrews, Rock and Mannion etc were all allowed to win ball in there without a glove laid on them and the lack of pressure applied was baffling. Was it down to tactics of the players afraid of their lives of what Dublin could do to them. Probably a bit of both.

The mentality of the side was all wrong today. The tactics on the Dublin kickouts were disgraceful, when we went to push up on the kickouts we were still leaving a man completely unmarked in a pocket of space between midfield and half back. When you push up on kickouts you have to go man for man on everyone, we didn't - we left one guy free all the time.

Colm Cavanagh battled gallantly, took a few great scores but outside of that it was fairly bleak. A rethink is needed for sure.

In fairness I think McNamee picked up a knock when Paddy Andrews tackled him after a couple minutes into game. Probably wasn't right after that for a few minutes

He came off the pitch totally shell shocked, like a few others he was totally out of his depth in skill and athleticism compared to the Dublin attackers he had to face.  After several years of strengthening and conditioning he has not developed in the same way as his Dublin counterparts while others on the Tyrone squad have become barrelled chested and muscle bound but not a patch on Dublin or Mayo players in terms of athleticism and being able to break the tackle, e.g. McMenaman drove through at least three Tyrone defenders for his crack on goal, they had no answer to him.

Anyone know where Peter Donnelly was today?

Not much evidence of the much vaunted superior fitness and conditioning of Tyrone from The full back left on his backside for the first goal by a youngster running through him to McMenaman swatting players aside as he bore down on goal to the overall exhaustion of chasing shadows throughout the game. Dublin players were barely out of breath at any time as they barrelled up and down the pitch at will. Even in the close combat areas, apart from the Cantona kick, the physical encounters all belonged to Dublin.

McGuigan started the case for the defence of Harte stating a 'county board faction' and some people in Tyrone wanted him to go. His only defence was who would want to come in to replace Mickey Harte.

General discussion / Re: Van Hire question
August 28, 2017, 08:45:15 AM
Watch out for insurance. The excess on a van insurance is far higher than a car and they check them in detail on return. Video exterior before you take it out. Only other option is to take hirers full insurance package which can double hire costs.

It can be cheaper to get your job done by a "man with a van" as advertised on Gumtree.

I actually think Martin Carney is an excellent co commentator. Knows his stuff. Knows the players. Knows the game. What exactly are people looking for in a co commentator?
He is the worst I've ever heard and today he's worse than usual. He doesn't need to tell us the same thing ten times. We can see that Dublin are dominant and Tyrone are very poor. It's like he's taped himself and it's playing on repeat.

Still not as bad as Dick Clerkin as co-commentator on SKY.

Who for the final so?

Think you can rule Deegan, Coldrick and Going out given they have taken charge of the semis. McQuillan? Lane?

Lane is the worst ref on the circuit right now and it would be a disgrace if he gets it.

McQuillan, has to be.

Or... Cormac Reilly?  ;)

Neilan. Did the business in the league final.

Surprised it as you so long to mention that clown.

Lewis was more than the slapstick clown that most remember him by. His performance in King of Comedy was excellent beside De Niro.

Wasn't he the first with the telethons to raise money for charity?

Also saw a long interview with him some time back where he seemed very bitter at Hollywood for not giving him due recognition.

An awkward 7 minute interview with Jerry Lewis:

For such an average player he had acheivements that most county players will never attain and certainly those jumping in on this thread to criticise him will be nowhere near:

4 Ulster SFC medals (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008)
3 League titles - Division 1 (2005), Division 2 (2010), Division 3 (2015),
1 All-Ireland U-21 medal (2004) as captain of Armagh
1 Ulster U-21 medal (2004)
4 Railway Cup medals with Ulster
Represented Ireland in four International Rules series.
