GAA Discussion / London vs Fermanagh
February 21, 2012, 09:20:10 PM
Not sure if there is a Div. 4 thread, and I didn't think it my place to start one!

Possibly no ones interested. Feel free to let me know!

London 0-9 - Fermanagh 2-15 (H/T 0-5 - 1-9)

London got caught cold by a fast start from Fermanagh who forced a fine save from the keeper inside the first 60 seconds.

Fermanagh rack up 5 unanswered points before London got going scoring 4 points in 8 mins (17-24), including a fine score which saw the ball travel the length of the field. The half ended however with London conceding a penalty which was clumsy or stupid depending on your point of view.

London were quicker out of the blocks in 2nd half but accuracy let them down with 5 wides and a yellow card the only thing to show for the first 15 mins, while Fermanagh kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Fermanagh ended the match with a cracking goal smashed into the top corner. Although if the scores had been closer I'm sure the player would have settled with a point.

The game had its share of handbags and the ref seemed a little picky, although he was happy to march the ball forward then frees were impeded which I like.

While London's effort couldn't be questioned Fermanagh seemed overall to be stronger and quicker at moving the ball. The forwards (15 in particular) had the measure of the London back line. It's an obvious thing to say but perhaps if London had been more accurate (Wides 10 - 2 I think) it could have been different. If all wides had been converted at one point the score could have been 0-10 - 1-12.

I would estimate crowd was around the 200 mark.

Apologies but I'm not up to speed with player names or indeed the fining points of the game yet..............I enjoyed it anyhow!

GAA Discussion / Is it too late to change???

So Kildare are zip from two and yet to score a goal! Yet still 4th favorites for the All-Ireland.

Got to see the Tyrone match and thought Kildare were in control for much of the first period. Tyrone clearly upped the tempo in the second half and Kildare didn't seem to have another gear.

Didn't see the the Monaghan game but a five point defeat seems fairly convincing.................guess the half time sending off didn't help!

Is it time to panic yet?

Hopefully off to Ruislip on Sunday for the Fermanagh game now the snow has cleared..............more pain no doubt.

GAA Discussion / Structure
January 26, 2012, 10:49:12 PM
Please stay with me.............................

I understand how the provincial side of the All-Ireland works, but what do you people think of how the competition is structured?

To the uneducated the whole thing appears a bit/very lopsided.

Munster has only six counties; two big hitters in Cork & Kerry and no championship in over a century from the other four, while Connacht has seven counties including London & NY!

On the other hand Ulster & Leinster contain eight and eleven side and seem much more competitive.

Bearing in mind your get a pass to the last eight by winning your province is it fair??????????????? ??? ??? ???

GAA Discussion / Reading Material
January 14, 2012, 09:13:32 PM
I'm English and relatively new to GAA. I've followed for a while and watched London a few of times last season, both Hurling and Football.

Football is what I enjoy and would welcome and recommendations for reading material that would improve my knowledge of the sports history, structure etc. etc.

Cheers in advance.
