General discussion / Wireless Connection Problem
June 12, 2009, 11:20:23 PM
hey computer geniuses

i have recently moved my laptop home from my student house where it was set up for torrenting, i.e port forwarding, static ip, etc etc.  The problem now is that I can't get it back to its default where it will just automatically connect to the router in the house.  I know there is nothing wrong with the router at home as my sister's laptop connects perfectly.  All I get is the message saying 'acquiring network address', it fails, and starts again.  I can connect in the meantime via the ethernet cable.

The only settings i changed were, under network connection properties > Internet Protocol, I have checked 'obtain ip address automatically and 'obtain DNS address automatically' but it hasn't worked.

all advice welcome, what a f**king way to spend a friday night, I used to be cool  :( :( :(

General discussion / Vehicle tracking device
May 12, 2009, 05:09:16 PM
Anyone have any knowledge of vehicle tracking devices, local fitters and how successful they are.
There seems to be a major increase in stolen farm machinery, plant, diggers, etc in our area and it was with this in mind that that I am looking into it.  From what I've seem online companies charge a premium per day for a service but is there a way that you can just fit it and track its wherabouts from your own laptop.

All advice appreciated lads, cheers

General discussion / GPS, Phones, Sat Nav, etc etc
February 26, 2009, 02:02:12 PM
Probably a stupid question but here goes, i spend quite a bit of time in England and considered getting a sat nav system for the car like a garmin or tomtom.  My phone contract will be soon be up for renewal and was wondering what way the gps works on them, can it do the job of a sat nav.  Have only seen the google maps on an iphone and i don't think it would be that useful for directions but is there another application for this or better applications on other handsets. If a phone is the way to go what type and what software is the best for uk and ireland, or is it really only a gimmick and am i best gettin a decent phone just??
