General discussion / Fringe
September 28, 2008, 09:02:35 PM
New TV show suppose to be starting here soon,Its Americas #1 rated show at the moment so it sounds promising. Here's the plot

Fringe follows the exploits of FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Walter Bishop, and his son Peter as they investigate aspects of fringe science (telepathy, levitation, invisibility, reanimation, etc). All over the world, a series of apparent experiments collectively referred to as "the pattern" are occurring for reasons unknown. Olivia, Peter, and Walter are in charge of investigating these strange events to determine their source. Connected to "the pattern" is a company called Massive Dynamic, which is a leading global research company that holds the patents for a number of new and important technologies.

Has anyone watched any of it yet? Sounds like a new version of x-files to me

GAA Discussion / New Laoise Manager
September 15, 2008, 05:01:28 PM
Dempsey to be installed tonight - reports

SEAN DEMPSEY will be installed as the new Laois senior football manager tonight.
Dempsey was a selector with outgoing boss Liam Kearns two years ago but was not part of the senior backroom team last year when he was the county U-21 manager.

He led Laois to a memorable All-Ireland minor title in 2003 and an All-Ireland U-21 final two years ago when they were pipped by Cork. Now he takes charge of a team that includes many of his former underage charges.

Dempsey's appointment is expected to be ratified by the Laois Executive tonight and then presented to the full meeting of the County Board that immediately follows.

Contrary to speculation, it seems unlikely that Dempsey's brother Michael will be part of his management team. Michael is also a successful former Laois U-21 football manager but in recent years he has been a key part of the Kilkenny hurlers' three in-a-row backroom team.

Kerryman Liam Kearns stepped down after two years in charge of Laois. They suffered a defeat at the hands of Wexford this summer before losing out to Down in the qualifiers.

Kearns replaced Mick O'Dwyer as Laois boss in September 2006 after a successful spell in charge of Limerick.

General discussion / How Retrosexual are you?
August 19, 2008, 05:52:36 PM
You can forget about you're manbags, moisturising, bringing the girlfriend home flowers for no reason(that one always confused me),holding hands in public, not being able to fix things, going to a hairdressers more than once a month, wearing those god awful scarfs around your neck because you think its fashion all that shite is for Metrosexuals and not real men..

Retrosexuals is the what real men are, here are the ten commandments of a Retrosexual see how many you can say yes too..I answered yes to 9 of them. The only one i didn't say yes to was No.10 as i have a bad wound on my leg that pains when i stand(This is a yes to No.9 so)

1. A Retrosexual always pays for his girlfriends/wife's dinner when on a date..

2. A Retrosexual deals with it,be it flat car batteries,TV malfunctions, earthquakes he just gets on with it and doesn't need the help of another man when it comes to DIY problems

3.A Retrosexual never acknowledges to strangers that he is in a relationship

4. A Retrosexual always carves the sunday roast

5.A Retrosexual is never seen in a passenager seat,he must do all the driving

6.A Retrosexual will never cry in public,Unless he is at a sporting event

7.A Retrosexual has a complete set of tools and at least 3 types of power tool (hairdryer and hair straightener does not count)

8.A Retrosexual always refuses to see a Doctor no matter how much pain he is in

9.A Retrosexual always has at least one war wound somewhere on his body and a story to go with it

10.A Retrosexual always stands in a pub

We already know a number of posters use moisturisers and man bags etc but fear not if you can say yes to at least 6 of the above there might be hope for ye yet

For Leinster posters only

Just wondered am i the only Leinster person outside of Dublin people themselves who doesn't want Dublin to win the All Ireland...
I have nothing against the players, manager etc(apart from a few that i won't mention  ;) ) ..but i just could not put up with the media and the summer fans/bandwagoners rubbing it in your face despite the fact they probably don't even know who the captain is let alone anything else about football
I seriously think i would have to move to a deserted island until next year.It would be unbearable IMHO...
Imagine what this board would be like with the few Jackeens who are here  :-\

General discussion / Greatest Irish Sportsperson
August 11, 2008, 01:18:25 AM
After a brilliant nights golf full of tension and drama Padraig Harrington wins back to back majors and his 3rd in 18months and also became the first European to win the USPGA in over 70 years.
Is this Ireland's greatest ever achievement in sport? And is Harrington now Ireland's greatest ever sportsman?
Who are the other contenders for the throne?

Because i drive alot for work i constantly see people on their mobiles while driving,Never fail everyday i see at least a dozen people talking on their mobiles while bombing down the m50 or going around a roundabout and so on
Now I'm no saint and i have done it in the past but over the last few years i have stopped it completely, and would never do it now,I have bluetooth set up in car and van so that helps but if I'm driving a car that hasn't bluetooth i will pull over or not answer the call
I don't really believe anyone that says they have never done it as i believe everyone has done at least once but i thought with all the warnings about penalty points and with the amount of deaths on our road that people would have copped on to this by now and not use their mobiles while driving.
Some people are so blatant about it that they don't seem to care who see's them on their mobile while driving,Even going through the city where you won't see a cop car or a cop on a bike until they are beside you...
I'm often behind cars that are swerving from side to side or go way out over the white line, and then you see that they are on their mobiles, and some would even have kids in the back..
It really annoys me to see this
What does everyone else think?

Looking forward to this,Wide open "Open" this year with no Tiger Woods around
I have my doubts about Harrington and i don't think Mcdowell will win two weeks in a row though the form he's in right now he might be a good each way bet..
Im going to go for Sergio Garcia as i did in the TPC at Sawgrass..He was very close to winning last year and i think this could be his year

GAA Discussion / Gaa ranking system
July 13, 2008, 01:45:13 AM
Not sure if this has been discussed before. This is a website i found that ranks all the counties in Ireland, not unlike the FIFA World ranking system
GAAinfo has created the first ever ranking system for inter-county hurling and football teams. It draws on over 4,500 results over the last 17 years - including the complete results of the All-Ireland Football and Hurling Championships from 1991 until the present. The system has been retrospectively calculated from to 1991 to 2007 - allowing us to compare the current champions with the best teams from the past.
The system is based on the Elo ranking system which is used by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to rank the best chess players. The system has been adapted to rank national teams in soccer and teams in Ice Hockey, American Football and Basketball. The official FIFA rankings for Women's soccer uses the Elo system. More information about the Elo ranking system can be found on Wikipedia.

General discussion / Prison Break Mountjoy style
July 12, 2008, 06:07:13 PM
Not quite a "Prison Break" but it is a scenario very like a episode of Prison Break where the prisoners barricaded themselves in one of the wings in Fox River

Prisoner stand-off at Mountjoy Prison

Over 30 prisoners are understood to have barricaded themselves into a recreation room at end of D wing in Mountjoy Prison.

The incident is understood to have started shorty after 4pm.

Staff are understood to have retreated from the area and senior management, including the prison governor, have been called in to the prison.

There is some concern that the prisoners might have broken through to the workshop.

GardaĆ say they are aware of the incident and the Garda Air Support Unit has been requested.

The rest of the prison has been locked down with all other prisoners returned to their cells.

A spokesman for the prison service said staff were trying to resolve the stand-off.

It was unclear if the prisoners were protesting or what they were protesting about.

GAA Discussion / Longford v Laois
June 29, 2008, 10:56:42 PM
Could have been a lot worse of a draw for us,Saying that it won't be easy either
Would have preferred to play them in Portlaoise.
They should have beaten us last year in Leinster, and with home advantage this year and considering how bad we were against Wexford I'm sure they fancy their chances against us.
I do think we should win but i wouldn't be surprised if we don't
