General discussion / CV's
August 25, 2009, 02:31:55 PM
Im just about to undertake my first proper CV. I have no idea where to start with it because I have heard many different things about their makeup.

Should a CV be short and to the point or should it be a long detailed account of my employment and academic history?

Is there certain should and should not's with CV's nowadays?

If anyone has a modern template for one could they send it my way? Any help would be much appreciated.

DC give trial to GAA star McCann

Tomas McCann impressed for Antrim in this year's Championship
Antrim GAA star Tomas McCann could feature for Irish League club Donegal Celtic in the pre-season game against Atletico Madrid on 4 August.

McCann, who played a key role in Antrim's surge to the Ulster Senior Football Final, is currently on trial with the west Belfast outfit.

He was expected to play for Donegal Celtic in a pre-season game against Comber Rec on Wednesday.

"Tomas McCann has been recommended to us," said DC manager Pat McAllister.

"We have offered him the opportunity to try out.

"I know of him from his GAA performances and he certainly has the fitness and prowess required to take a trial with Donegal Celtic.

"I am happy with my squad ahead of the new season but who knows, maybe Tomas can force me to make another addition."

McCann, who plays as a forward or left winger, is also expected to feature for the west Belfast side in a friendly against Moyle FC at Celtic Park on Sunday.

The Antrim GAA star has already been linked with a move to the Australian Football League.

Last season Antrim hurler Liam Watson joined Donegal Celtic and made a successful transition to the Irish League.

On Sunday 9 August, the Glentoran Legends side will face a Donegal Celtic XI in a tribute game for former hoops manager Paddy kelly who stepped down earlier this summer after more than a decade in charge.

That quote made me laugh. You would think by the sound of this DC manager that Tomas was making a giant leap in sporting terms by getting a trial with his team.

A very arrogant comment I think. It seems to me that this manager must think that playing infront of a few hundred people on a rainy Saturday in Ballina-f**king -mallard is on par if not greater than playing for Antrim in an Ulster Final.

Anyone heading to Newcastle for this Prodigy concert on Friday night?

As I resident of the area I personally believe that the town is going to be wrecked. Our local police cant even handle a row between a couple of drunken 15 year olds on Friday night nevermind control a crowd of 15,000.

GAA Discussion / Effective Sideline Balls
June 01, 2009, 02:12:35 PM
Anybody know of any ideas in regards to retianing possession from sideline balls. I know this should be an easy skill to execute but the team Im taking at the moment constantly gives the ball to the opposition when we hit a sideline.

Any specific drills I could use?

Richard Gough believes Englishman George Boyd should not be given the chance to play for Scotland - despite himself having been born in Sweden.

Boyd, 23, from Chatham in Kent, is eligible through his Motherwell-born grandad.

However, the Peterborough winger had not set foot in Scotland until Tuesday when he turned up to meet his Scotland B team-mates ahead of Wednesday night's game with Northern Ireland at Broadwood.

Gough, born in Stockholm with a Scottish father and Swedish mother, was brought up in South Africa.

But after moving to Scotland as a teenager, he began a career in football which saw him play for, among others, Dundee United, Tottenham, Rangers and Everton and he captained Scotland eight times in his 61 appearances in dark blue.

However, the Ibrox legend believes the recruitment of Boyd is a step too far.

He said: "I'm a good one to ask about that seeing that I was born in Sweden.

"But my father would have shot me if I had played for Sweden.

"I came to Scotland at 15 or 16, I grew up as a Rangers fan and the Scottish thing was ingrained in me.

"I think your grandfather is taking a bit far.

"I think it should go back one generation.

"Otherwise you get into that Irish thing of having a pint of Guinness and you can play, like they did.

"They did have a decent team when they did that but I think it is taking it too far.

"It's not, 'I'm only playing for Scotland because England hasn't picked me' sort of thing - I don't think that's right."

Got thinking there tonight about a few examples of talented young players from smaller clubs being sounded out and eventually transferred to a bigger club.

Is this becoming a more common occurence in the GAA today and are our transfer regulations too lax?

In my opinion they are and our rules governing transfers need serious re-evaluation.
