GAA Discussion / Tyrone club football
November 13, 2011, 05:35:13 PM
Players and supporters killing each other up there again today.  ::)
Dragging the good name of the association through the mud for the umpteenth time.
Will they ever learn?

I think it is.

GAA Discussion / Interview with Niall Moyna
September 24, 2011, 01:38:14 PM
http://www.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-football/dublin-success-based-on-players-insists-moyna-but-appliance-of-science-at-dcu-brought-their-preparation-to-new-levels-writes-colm-keys-2886360.html

Talks a lot of sense, particularly when it comes to the hydration and nutritional requirements of other sports being applied to gaelic football.
I know lads whose bodies must be 95% water at the start of every game they drink so much beforehand and there's no talking to them.

Apologies to Hegan boy who already started a thread on this but I've a feeling a more descriptive thread title is needed!
Gas to see lads from America and Oz commenting on the video.
Cian only appears briefly in fairness.
The younger brothers and their mates all play for Wolfe Tones.

I think it's mentioned elsewhere but it merits it's own thread.
It's not before time someone called them out.

GAA Discussion / GAA books
August 17, 2011, 12:13:06 PM
There may be an existing thread on this but I'm just wondering what decent books people have read recently.
I'm halfway through 'The Club' by Christy O'Connor and I have to say after hearing so much about it, it is a massive disappointment.
I read 'Out of our skins' the week before I started O'Connors book and it is in a different league altogether.
And I'm not saying that because it was about the Meath team I loved, I just thought it was a phenomenally well written book and Hayes had a lot of interesting stuff to say.

GAA Discussion / Super slow motion replays
August 07, 2011, 01:48:03 PM
I think this is a great new feature on the RTE coverage.
The replay of the shot that Bernard Brogan had saved in the first few minutes was a thing of beauty.
He's completely focused on the ball as Justin McMahon is diving full-length to try and block, he gets the shot away and the ball is heading for the right corner before McConnell dives full length to his left to save it.
Great stuff.

GAA Discussion / When was the last time.....
August 07, 2011, 01:28:11 PM
a single county had teams involved in the senior and minor football and senior and minor hurling semi-finals in the same year?
And as a follow-up question, has a single county ever had all those teams contesting their respective finals in the same year?

GAA Discussion / Kerry v Limerick

Great goal by Darren O'Sullivan.
He deserves a box for it though.
WTF is up with Martin Carneys voice?  ???

GAA Discussion / Tommy Walsh - Kerry
July 02, 2011, 10:05:11 AM
I reckon he'll jack in the aussie rules at the end of the season and return to Kerry to solve their midfield woes.
Doesn't seem to be making much headway over there compared to the likes of Hanley and Tuohy and even Niall McKeever who made his senior debut last week.
It's one thing to be paid to play a game, but if you don't enjoy it what's the point.

I know I suggest this every year for various different reasons but this time I'm serious.
The ladies football final debacle is the final straw.
They can come back when they get civilized.
It's like the stone-age up there.

Is there an inverse relationship between how successful a county are and the number of posters they have on Gaaboard?
Very few Kerry, Cork and Meath posters yet there's millions of Mayo, Armagh and Cavan posters.
What's that all about?  ???
#96
There's only a handful of Meath & Kildare posters so I think we should deputise some of our Nordie chums to act as honorary Royals and Flourbags.
There are a lot of similarities between the Meath and Armagh football ethos (manliness, long kicking, rugged good looks) so we're natural bedfellows.
Likewise, Kildare and Tyrone share a lot of cultural similarities (wearing white, diving, fondness for bandages) so it makes sense for them to stick together.
So get into the Meath vs. Kildare thread and offer your unbiased opinions!

GAA Discussion / We're saved!
May 29, 2011, 03:58:48 PM
Lads, we no longer have to put up with RTE's shambolic commentary and analysis.
Mute the TV and stick on Newstalk.
God their coverage is so much better it's scary.
Mind you, this was for the hurling and I believe David Brady will be involved in their football coverage.  :-[
He'll provide a bit of comic relief anyway (not intentionally though).

GAA Discussion / Spillane
May 22, 2011, 04:48:47 PM
Would he ever just f*ck off.
Players can't kick points nowadays apparently.
Despite the fact that scoring averages are significantly higher now than they were when he was playing.
His latest drum which he will no doubt be banging all summer is this "bulking up" thing which means that players can't practice their kicking because they live in the gym.
Players from the 70's and 80's (and that includes you Larry Tompkins) would seriously want to sit down and watch some of the games they were involved in next time TG4 are showing them.
Putrid muck altogether.

An official attendance of 36,000.
They could have got another 20,000 at least with a bit of effort, even though you could lay on free flights from Cork and you'd still get shag all Rebels to go.
They should have let the Dublin county board market that game.
Didn't hear any radio ads or anything in the week leading up to the final.
They should have dropped the ticket prices and got the word out.
Such a wasted opportunity.
I can't turn on a radio nowadays without some lad roaring at me about "LEINSTER RUGBY!!"
The blazers in HQ would want to wake up.
