General discussion / Riddle me this...
January 27, 2009, 02:25:24 PM
1.A barrel of water weighs 20 pounds. What do you have to add to it to make it weigh 12 pounds?

2.What happened in the middle of the 20th century that will not happen again for 4,000 years?

3.The more you take the more you leave behind. What are they?

4.What natural phenomenon is capable of speaking in any language?

5.A glass jar holds a single germ. After one minute the germ splits into 2 germs. One minute after that, the 2 germs split again, forming a total of 4 germs. Continuing at this rate a single germ can multiply to fill the whole jar in exactly one hour.

Knowing this how many minutes would it take to fill the jar if you had started with 2 germs.

General discussion / Vardis
November 27, 2008, 09:15:59 PM
Don't know if anyone was watching RTE 1 tonight and the show Buyer Beware about these crooks Vardis.
They are a English company who claim to be working on the behalf of charities. They claim they are producing wall planners and the such and ask for you to sponsor them with a advert
I got a call off them last year,I didn't sign up to anything but for about 12 months I got letters threatening me that I owed them money etc.
They even threatend me with legal action, they would ring me all the time until I finally lost it and roared abuse down the phone and told them I would take legal action against them.
There was a few story's on the show tonight similar to mine.
I know a few of the posters here are self employed so just be warned if they ring you..
Just type Vardis into google and every result is how they are scammers

GAA Discussion / Laois Gaa moving to Kilkenny....!

Laois GAA seal amazing deal for new training facility at Galmoy,Co.Kilkenny

Laois GAA confirmed one of the most spectacular deals in the history of the county on Tuesday night, as they purchased over 30 acres of land, and buildings valued at over €3m from Galmoy Mines Ltd for just €10.
In a move which surprised many at Tuesday night's county board meeting, Chairman Brian Allen and Secretary Niall Handy announced the details of the purchase of the land to delegates.

Laois will pay an initial fee of just €10 for the land and buildings, but will cover the later costs of transfering the land to their ownership and other administrative expenses.

The move came about when Andy Dunne, from Clonad, brought Allen and Handy's attention to the opportunity, and with the help of John Stapleton, from Kilcotton, who is an Environmental Officer with Galmoy Mines Ltd, a meeting was arranged with Stefan Mansson, the mines' Managing Director, as Brian Allen explains, "Myself and Niall were brought to meet Stefan Mansson, and he asked us to make a pitch as to why they should give us the land. We then submitted our proposal, and he came back to us and gave us preliminary acceptance."

The whole deal has been moving quickly, with that meeting happening just a few weeks ago. The land which Laois GAA will receive is currently grazing land and has not been used for mining, and will need some work eventually as it will need to be levelled, but the buildings which will be part of the deal are the real coup. One of the buildings was only completed last year at a cost of €1.2m, and has changing facilities for almost 170 people.

The other building is valued at between €1.5m and €2m, and is currently used for administration, but Allen admits it will have uses beyond this, "That building has a workshop and store, which could be re-constructed into a gym without too much financial outlay." There is also a fenced in car park with parking for 160 cars as part of the deal.

The mines were originally due to close in 2010, but with their profitability steadily decreasing, that date has been brought forward. Even when the mines are closed, Lundin Mining Corporation, the Canadian based firm which own Galmoy, will retain some administrative staff on site, but the rest of the facilities will be at the disposal of Laois GAA, and when they officially close the mine, Laois GAA can then submit a planning application for the change of use.

Despite Galmoy being just barely in Kilkenny, a point some will feel sours the news, Allen highlighted that it was too good a deal to turn down, "When we were approached by Galmoy it was obviously a consideration, but to be fair we coudn't not accept this deal. It is a huge scoop for Laois GAA."

"The company wanted to put something back into the community and they felt that this way, it would be best utilized for the generations to come."

The development at Galmoy will raise some concerns over the original site for the development of a training complex and centre of excellennce at Dooary in Ballyroan, with the land already bought and plans already in place to develop on the there. Despite the purchase of Galmoy, the development at Ballyroan will not be scrapped, and it is believed both projects will be developed in the future.

I can't go out for 3 nights in a row like I always was,now after one night on the beer I have to spend most of the next day in bed...
I am finding the music in nightclubs and late bars to loud,I'd rather go to a quiet pub and chat about soccer,Gaa and work...
I was working in a house the other day and there was a plumber there who was about 19 or 20..We got chatting I was telling him where I was from and he told me a neighbour of his was from Abbeyleix,
I asked did he know him and he says no not really he is a auld fella,I says oh right he must be up here a long time so..the plumber turns around and says I dunno but he is around 31 or 32  :o so he must be up here a while...I said to the plumber f**k you I'm just 30 and and **** says your ancient so!
And there was me thinking 30 is still young  :-[

I'm a starting a new venture which I hope to run as a subdivision in the company I already run..
I need the help of posters who work in office buildings or warehouses or factories or anywhere really that has copious amounts of fluorescent lighting in particular...
Its got to do with energy saving, which is something I have been hoping to break into for some time and I have the opportunity to do so now and I need to get names or email address's of people who might be in charge of maintenance or even the head men themselves so I can send them a letter or email of what I have to offer..
Any help greatly appreciated,pm if you'd like to help*

If this takes off I will take anyone who helped me out for a slap up dinner in Supermacs  :)

I have as I sure everyone has done the sleeping in the back of a car thing,I also fell asleep under the car one night.
Probably the strangest or actually funniest was when I was going out with this girl from England.
I went over one weekend to see her,she was living with her divorced and rather attractive 42 year old mother...
Myself and the girl went out on the piss the Saturday night and fell in the door at around 4am.
Sometime between 4 and the following morning I must have went for a piss,Being drunk and me being in a strange house I must have got lost..I woke up the next morning buck naked in the bed cuddling into the person beside me...It was only when the person woke up I realised it was her mother..
Unfortunately nothing happened her mother just looked at me and said I think you are in the wrong room,I just left the room and went back and got into bed with the girlfriend.

Also fell asleep as a Altar Boy at mass one sunday..

GAA Discussion / Leinster Football Championship 2009
October 08, 2008, 08:46:59 PM
Its impossible to have a discussion on the gaa draw thread because as usual the nordies take over...

Kildare v Offaly - winners v Wexford
Carlow v Louth - winners v Laois
Longford v Wicklow - winners v Westmeath
Meath a bye - v Dublin

From a Laois point of few I am happy with the draw and I think we should hopefully have enough for either Carlow or Louth in the 1/4 finals, and with a bit of luck and with the players finally playing as a team under our new manager I think we have a great chance of a Leinster Final appearance
Really think Dublin might not reach the Final next year also
