General discussion / Disaster Afoot

In 4 billion years our galaxy is going to collide with another one.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/galaxy-hit-another-four-billion-years-nasa-195617659.html

I think it's time we start putting things away in case we survive and just need to ride the wave til things settle again. I'm thinking like building an underground larder and fill it full of stuff until the cloud and dust tone it down a bit.

I also think we should leave remnants in a box of what this generation was like in case we're all killed and the next evolutionary process gets to human point. (CDs, DVDs, clothes, ipads, car engines, lawnmowers, brooms, settees etc) etc.

General discussion / Fears
May 23, 2012, 11:54:19 AM
Does anyone have any fears that cripple their lives to the extent that they just live in their own beds surrounded by crisp packets, cups of tea and defecation?

Recently I developed a horrendous fear of the unknown. It just happened to be when I was driving the bus down to Carrickmacross and it suddenly hit me that anything could happen right now - i.e a burst tyre that would send me and my fellow inmates spiralling in a towering inferno 100 feet into the air and into the bushes. Or a rabbit or bear could jump from the roadside and I'd swerve and kill some old lady who was going to the toilet on the side of the road. Since then I've not been able to function in trepidation that I'd not do what I need to do.

Does anyone fear anything else?

General discussion / Panpsychism
May 15, 2012, 04:59:47 PM
This has been ruining me recently. Does anyone else suffer from knowing about it? It sort of means that everything has the ability to experience. Even objects. It's a branch of philosophy that takes the view that all things have a mind or a mind-like quality

I have found myself writing a lot more gently on my writing pad. Even as I type this I'm going really softly. The worst thing is the toilet or bathroom. The toilet takes an awful lot of crap from us whether it's number one or two or the flushing etc. It's making my life a misery. I gently drive me car and even talk to/caress it. My heart breaks for shoes.

I wish I never read about it. If you haven't yet, please don't.

General discussion / Lough Neagh
April 20, 2012, 11:31:13 AM
I have been following with great interest the Lough Neagh ownership debate. I grew up in Ireland and I would spend a week every summer strolling around the beaches of Lough Neagh. Back in the 1980s my mother used to drive us all to Gawley's Gate and turf us off there and then collected us two weeks later. At the start it was tough especially as a toddler but after a few days when starvation was a real possibilty you became part of the land and by the time my mother would collect me I'd be proficient at killing trout with my hands and using mink skin for clothing etc.

But here's what's happening. The rivers and Lough is so polluted with sewerage that the trouts and eels are coming half way down the Bann or Main or Moyola or Lagan or Ballinderry and then getting a whiff of the lough and turning back again towards America. Shooters are finding it harder to shoot things.

The government then find out that some boy sitting in a house in dorset owns it. His da offered it back for nothing 10 years ago and we refused. Then he was killed by his wife and her brother. Then the son died within a month of becoming the new heir of a heart attack aged 27. He was visiting his brother at the time who then became the present heir. Sounds strange. The present boy is in his 30s but doesn't want to sell it. He fell off a horse and lost half his spine but is ok now. He runs long distances. But he doesn't want to sell as it's maybe £6m-10m and he could sell it to water companies. He doesn't own the water as God does but owns the basin.

It's an interesting debate. The UUP claim it's an attempt to attain a United Ireland by stealth.

I was reading pieces recently and one of them talked about intelligences. It said that because of the way schools are made up and teachers brainwashed as well as the government and everyone, we are told that words and sums make you intelligent and being able to work out things in an IQ test.

This man said that that is bullshit talk. He said that there are other intelligences out there that are just as relevant but maybe won't pay you a pension or a good wage or get you into Harvard because of the world and what it likes. What I mean is the following:

Social Intelligence
Spiritual Intelligence
Athletic Intelligence
Spatial Intelligence
Existential Intelligence

I think this has the potential to change the face of everything. What I mean is, if you are great at listening to people and giving great advice maybe on relationships or hygiene problems (social) then you might be just as much a genius as Einstein or Vorderman. When you're sitting in a bar and you are maybe brilliant at knowing how and where to erect a bouncy castle or hang a door (spatial) then people will point at you and say that man's a bloody genius. What needs to be done though is some kind of recognition for these talents. My grandmother was brilliant at spiritual intelligence as she was able to go to Mass twice a day and was never bored or complaining but was really poor and we used to throw her down scraps to keep her going. Maybe she should have got a grant for being into spirits or we should have talked to her more as a human.

I think it's time we equated the intelligence of someone like Pele, Carroll or Dan Gordon on the field with someone like Steve Jobs, Bamber Gascoigne, Roy Walker, Mike Murphy and Bob Holness. I'm not sure about existential intelligence but I think it's about knowing if you're alive or not and I'm not convinced that that's all that a great a talent.

General discussion / Top five regrets of the dying
February 15, 2012, 10:47:17 AM
There has been a lot of talk about dying and people seem to be dying more than ever this year. I've seen in various publications a table of regrets for people on their deathbeds. Although I think it's a sinister questionnaire they're filling out at a time of looking into the light but it does raise some interesting observations:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

"This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it."

2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.

"This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret, but as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence."

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

"Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result."

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

"Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying."

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

"This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content, when deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again."

Personally, if I was dead now I would have these regrets.

1. I wish I had run a marathon, a half marathon, 10k, 5k or even a mile. I wish I had run.
2. I wish I had found out the cure for my itching.
3. I wish I had tasted a woman
4. I wish I hadn't reacted badly to bad news. When my father told me of the non-existence of Santa I burnt down his shed with his car and wolf in it.
5. I wish I was more open about my liking of Nazi memorabilia.

Does anyone have a regret?

Social welfare office bans pyjamas for interviews
Wednesday, January 25, 2012 - 08:35 AM

A social welfare office in Dublin has erected a sign on its window warning claimants that pyjamas are not appropriate clothing to wear for those attending for interview.

Staff at the Damastown social welfare office said this type of attire will no longer be tolerated.

It is believed the decision was made to ban pyjamas after a number of complaints were made from customers.

Surely this is discrimination. What if a celebrity wears them to the Oscars and they become a fashion thing?

General discussion / New Year's Resolutions
January 06, 2012, 11:31:05 AM
Does anyone have any apart from the usual crap like losing weight or getting fitter? I mean, a real intention of doing something different like writing an epic poem, making a cult film from the 60s or building a boat etc?

I'm absolutely determined to build something that can be seen from space. I was reading that the Great Wall of China CANNOT be seen from the moon. I told my local Chinese takeaway workers all about it but they said they weren't interested in the story as they were just locals from the Falls. But If I was Chinese I'd be fairly piffed. So my resolution is to manufacture something in my field that can be seen from the moon.

I recently set up, in my local pub, the Society for the Eradication of Words that are Erroneous and Redundant (SEWER). So far I have 2 members including myself. We are devising a guidebook that will include some of the major redundant words and phrases.

We have identified:

added bonus (no need for added)
and plus (no need for one or the other)
actual fact (just say actually)
very very big (just one very or none)

I was hoping there might be others out there.

General discussion / Attacked by a strange animal?
August 15, 2011, 10:21:54 AM
Has anyone here been attacked by a strange animal. This story made me feel uneasy last night.

QuoteA mysterious "animal" with the shape of a dog with two legs and hands with long nails attacked a woman in Bangwe in the early hours of Wednesday. Speaking at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) where she was receiving treatment, Margret Landani, 31, who seemed to be great pain, said the "animal" hit her hard on her left ribs. "I felt something scratching my toes at round 2.00 am. I took it lightly because I thought it was a rat. A moment later my blanket was pulled off. I then woke up only to see the whole house in bright light," recalled Landani, tears registering in her eyes. When she asked who it was, the "animal" did not answer. Shedecided to kick the attacker with her leg but "the animal" hit her back on the ribs, causing severe pain that forced her shout for help.

"Immediately after I shouted, I saw what it was...A dog-like animal, with two legs and hands that had very long nails. Its mouth was also long. It had a hairy, big body with a lot of spots. "With a lot of force and noise it disappeared through my window," said Landani with difficulties, adding that her door and window had been tightly locked before she slept. She said doctors told her that she was not badly injured and she would return home yesterday. Chief hospital administrator for QECH Thom Chisale said they could not divulge information on the woman, saying medical reports are confidential.Landani said she was with her two children in the house, while her husband, a watchman, was at work. She also claimed that a man and two other children in the area had also been attacked by a similar animal. Her landlord, a Mrs. Chinguwo, who was woken up by Landani's shout for help, said the neighbourhood was engulfed in fear following the attack. "We just heard the shouting. I woke up at 2.05 am. We rushed to see what was happening with her, that is when she narrated the whole story to us. We slept in her house in case the animal returned...In the morning she looked very weak.

I don't live anywhere near Bangwe but I know these things can travel. Years ago there was a puma spotted in Ballycastle then in Ballymena, 15 minutes apart. Only 2 ways he could have done that - ran like mad or got a bus and both scare the life out of me.

I don't know if you've been following this but N Ireland are through to the quarter finals of the netball world cup. In emotional scenes (I cried for 20 minutes continuously though it had been a bad day) we beat Samoa 66-37. Samoa are no pushovers as they have shown in rugby and Kilikiti. Northern Ireland beat Sri Lanka 65-56 before a 75-33 defeat at the hands of the Aussies on Tuesday.

We now play England in the QF. Let's hope we beat those bitches.

General discussion / Cure for Crying
May 27, 2011, 10:36:17 PM
I read this and was thinking that there'd never be any more pain in the world if we shipped people susceptible to tears into space. You cannot cry in space. That means you harden up as it's an excruciating pain not being able to cry. So that means no one will do anything to cause crying. Women would be a lot tougher.

'TEARS IN SPACE DON'T RUN DOWN YOUR FACE'

Astronaut Drew Feustel learned a valuable lesson about being teary-eyed on a spacewalk, NASA said Wednesday after the Endeavour crew's third jaunt outside the International Space Station.

"Tears in space don't run down your face," he said, according to lead spacewalk officer Allison Bollinger who described the problem Feustel encountered when out on the spacewalk with astronaut Mike Fincke.

"They actually kind of conglomerate around your eyeball," Bollinger recounted.

The problem occurred toward the end of Wednesday's spacewalk by the two American astronauts who arrived at the orbiting lab along with a six-member crew aboard the shuttle Endeavour 10 days ago.

After stepping out to work on repairs to the Russian side of the station, Feustel discovered some of the anti-fog solution he had buffed on to the interior of his helmet was flaking off.

"We have seen this happen a couple of times in the past where if you are not careful about buffing the anti-fog just the right amount, that it can tend to flake off every once in a while and get in the crew member's eye," said Bollinger. "The anti-fog is just off-the-shelf dishwashing soap. So if you have ever had soap in your eye, you know how that feels."

Feustel, who has completed several spacewalks since becoming an astronaut in 2000, was able to wiggle down far enough in his spacesuit to make use of a spongy device called a Valsalva that is typically used to block the nose in case a pressure readjustment is needed.

"He was able to rub his eye against the Valsalva device to get the tear free," Bollinger said.

The rest of the six-hour, 54-minute spacewalk was routine, NASA said. Scheduled tasks to complete an external wireless antenna system and mend parts of the Russian side of the space station went ahead as planned.

A final spacewalk by two Endeavour astronauts outside the orbiting research station is set for Friday. It will mark the last time U.S. astronauts arriving on board the space shuttle step out for a spacewalk at the lab.

A spacewalk is planned for the Atlantis mission in July, but it will performed by International Space Station crew, not by U.S. astronauts who arrive on the shuttle NASA said.

The Endeavour mission, STS-134, is the second to last for the American shuttle program. After Atlantis's planned launch in July, the three-decade program will end and the shuttles will become museum pieces.

A new pre-spacewalk exercise regimen, known informally as the slow motion hokey pokey and consisting of light exercises and breathing instead of an overnight camp-out in an airlock, was judged a resounding success.

NASA's flight surgeon "reported that there were no medical symptoms whatsoever" with the new approach to preventing decompression sickness, or "the bends" that scuba divers face when encountering changing pressure, said Derek Hassman, lead International Space Station flight director.

"He gave the crew a clean bill of health and the crew had nothing but positive feedback about the protocol -- they really loved the simplicity of the protocol, the fact that it doesn't require as much time on the oxygen masks, it doesn't require the overnight camp-out."

However, the in-suit light exercise (ILE) pre-breathe protocol will not be used for the last spacewalk of the mission on Friday, because it takes up 40 minutes more usage of the canister that scrubs carbon dioxide from the spacesuit.

That could pose a problem for spacewalker Greg Chamitoff, who experienced a malfunction in his C02 sensor during his first spacewalk of the mission.

Since Chamitoff wears an extra-large spacesuit, there are no replacements on board for him to wear.

"It might combine with the possible impacts of the C02 sensor... (and) would reduce the capacity of Greg's suit to the point that we might not be able to do the 6 hour 30 minute EVA," Hassman said, referring to extra-vehicular activity, NASA's term for spacewalk.

However, the new protocol was received so favorably, it will likely become the astronaut's favored method for future spacewalk preparations, he said.

I read recently about a star we can live on. This is great news and if we can work out how to travel at the speed of light then the journey bit might only take a few days.

Exoplanet near Gliese 581 star 'could host life' The Gliese star hosts four confirmed planets and may host as many as six Continue reading the main story

A red dwarf star 20 light-years away is again providing hints that it hosts the first definitively habitable planet outside our Solar System.

The planet Gliese 581d is at the colder outer edge of the "Goldilocks zone" in which liquid water can be sustained.

Now a study in Astrophysical Journal Letters suggests its atmosphere may keep things warm enough for water.

The solar system also hosts another contender for habitability, unconfirmed planet Gliese 581g announced in 2010.

However, the existence of that planet has since been called into question.

Gliese 581d is less controversial; it was discovered along with the planet Gliese 581c in 2007, occupying the outer and inner edges of the Goldilocks zone, respectively.

Gliese 581c was soon determined to be too close to its host star to sustain water, with a surface temperature exceeding 1,000C.

Conversely, the outlying planet 581d - with a mass about six times that of the Earth and twice its size - was initially taken to be too cold to have liquid water.

Now, French researchers have run computer simulations of the planet's atmosphere, arguing that it is likely to contain high concentrations of carbon dioxide.

They contend that conditions could be suitable for oceans of liquid water as well as clouds and rainfall.

However, Gliese 581d's denser air and dim red light from its host star would make for a murky environment that would be toxic to humans.

Robin Wordsworth, a member of the team from the Institut Pierre Simon Laplace in Paris, said that the findings were further evidence that the sheer variety of planets and environments far outpaced that which we see in our own Solar System.

Dr Wordsworth said that the simulations are tantamount to a first definitive claim for a habitable exoplanet.

"This discovery is important because it's the first time climate modellers have proved that the planet is potentially habitable, and all observers agree that the exoplanet exists," he told news agency PA.

"The Gliese system is particularly exciting to us as it's very close to Earth, relatively speaking. So with future generations of telescopes, we'll be able to search for life on Gliese 581d directly."

General discussion / Cremation or burial or what?
May 03, 2011, 03:09:11 PM
I have been giving this a lot of thought lately. I heard of a boy in Killybegs and he asked to be left in a coffin in his attic as the worms are not as likely to be about there. I thought this is rather comforting knowing that you're dead but still amongst loved ones.

Where do people want to end up and is there a third option, maybe, chopped up and used as food for the third world? I thought of cremation but there's no coming back from that one at all. Burial seems ok but it's taking up a lot of space and with the earthquakes happening there could be horrible sights all over the country with bodies jerking all over the place.

General discussion / Morality
April 20, 2011, 09:59:09 AM
How do people live their lives in terms of morality?

I was reading a book by a boy called Cant and he says that to give money to charity is not a good thing to do unless your intention was that it is something that you should do. What I mean is if you did it because you felt sorry for the tr**p it is WRONG. If you did it to make yourself feel good it is WRONG. You need to do it because you just naturally think it is what is right.

I used to obey the 10 commandments but then I realised that killing a man is justified in some cases so to obey rules laid down by a religion is wrong. This boy Cant agrees because he says that even though he was a Christian, you cannot prove God exists so to base morality on God's Will is faulty.

What I'm asking is what is the best way to live in terms of being morally good?

An example was today when I realised I was getting something weekly when I should not be. Do I report it or do I keep the Status Quo and say nothing.

SOme people say just being nice to people is the way to go but surely that is wrong if that person is an eveil murderous dictator. If Hitler was in need of CPR would you give it to him? I would give it to Hitler.

General discussion / Some Jokes Go too Far?

When is a joke not a joke anymore? I think this is an outrageous attempt.

Maryland man glued to Wal-Mart toilet seat

(CNN) -- Police in Maryland are on the hunt for the perpetrator of what appears to be an April Fools' Day prank that left a man glued to a toilet at a Wal-Mart store.

If caught, the jokester who doused the seat with glue at the Elkton Wal-Mart on March 31 could face second-degree assault charges, said Lt. Matthew Donnelly of the Elkton Police Department.

Police, along with the Singerly Fire Co. and the Cecil County paramedics, were called to the scene at about 7 p.m.

There, they found the 48-year-old victim, who called for help after realizing the sticky situation he was in when he tried -- and failed -- to stand up and leave the superstore's restroom, Donnelly said.

It took responders 15 minutes to remove the victim from the stall, but they were unable to disconnect the toilet seat from his body, Donnelly said.

Instead, the victim was taken to Union Hospital of Cecil County, where the seat was detached. He left with only minor injuries to his buttocks, Donnelly said.

Police do not suspect that the victim was specifically targeted, but that the incident was a random prank, Donnelly said. They have not received reports of glue-laden toilet seats since.

The End of the World
October 21, 2011
[/b][/size]

The purpose of this tract is to inform you of the great urgency there now is in the world for each and every person to be reconciled to God.  The Bible is the Word of God!  Everything the Bible declares has the full authority of God Himself.  Now, at this time, information is coming forth from the Bible which clearly reveals God's plan for Judgment Day and the end of the world itself.  The Bible has opened up its secrets concerning the timeline of history.  This information was never previously known because God had closed up His Word blocking any attempt to gain knowledge of the end of the world.  We read about this in the book of Daniel:
Daniel 12:9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
However, now in our present day, God has opened up His Word (the Bible) to reveal a great deal of truth concerning the end of time (and many other teachings).  Also, in the same chapter of Daniel, it says:
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
God is now opening up His Word because we have arrived at the time of the end.  For this reason, it has become very obvious to the serious student of the Bible that we are now living in the last few days of earth's history.  As a matter of fact, because we are living at the end of time, God is now revealing to His people the following information:

THE BIBLE'S CALENDAR OF HISTORY

The Lord has opened up His people's understanding to the "Biblical calendar" found on the pages of the Bible.  The genealogies of the book of Genesis, primarily in chapters 5 and 11, can be shown to be a precise calendar of the history of mankind in this world.  The Bible's calendar of history is completely accurate and trustworthy.
Since this Bible calendar is given by God in His Word, it can be trusted wholeheartedly. In this brief pamphlet, we will share some of the conclusions derived from the Biblical calendar and from other studies in the Scriptures.  However, the amount of information available is far too abundant and complex to get into much detail in this short pamphlet; but we can and will give precise and compelling dates.  These dates can be trusted entirely because they come right out of the Bible. TIMING OF IMPORTANT EVENTS IN HISTORY

11,013 BC—Creation.  God created the world and man (Adam and Eve).
4990 BC—The flood of Noah's day.  All perished in a worldwide flood.  Only Noah, his wife, and his 3 sons and their wives survived in the ark (6023 years from creation).
7 BC—The year Jesus Christ was born (11,006 years from creation).
33 AD—The year Jesus Christ was crucified and the church age began (11,045 years from creation; 5023 calendar years from the flood).
1988 AD—This year ended the church age and began the great tribulation period of 23 years (13,000 years from creation).
1994 AD—On September 7th, the first 2300-day period of the great tribulation came to an end and the latter rain began, commencing God's plan to save a great multitude of people outside of the churches (13,006 years from creation).
2011 AD—On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God's elect people) will occur at the end of the 23-year great tribulation.  On October 21st, the world will be destroyed by fire (7000 years from the flood; 13,023 years from creation).

ONE DAY IS AS 1000 YEARS

The child of God has learned from the Bible that the language of Genesis 7 has a twofold meaning:
Genesis 7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Historically, as God spoke these words, there were seven days remaining for Noah, his family, and the animals to get into the safety of the ark; but spiritually (and the Bible is a spiritual book), God was speaking to all of the people of the world and was declaring that sinful mankind would have 7000 years to find refuge in the salvation provided by Jesus Christ.  How can we know that?  We know this is so based on what we read in 2 Peter, chapter 3:
2 Peter 3:6-8 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
The context of 2 Peter 3 is extremely important!  In the first few verses, God refers us to the destruction of the world by the flood during Noah's day.  Then we find an interesting admonition that we ought not to be "ignorant" of one thing,  which is, 1 day is as 1000 years, and 1000 years is as 1 day.  Immediately following this bit of information is a very vivid description of the end of the present world by fire.
What could God be telling us by identifying 1 day along with 1000 years?
Since we recently have discovered the Biblical calendar of history on the pages of the Bible, we find that the flood of Noah's day occurred in the year 4990 BC.  This date is completely accurate (for further information on the Biblical timeline of history, please go to: www.familyradio.com).  It was in the year 4990 BC that God revealed to Noah that there would be yet 7 days until the flood of waters would be upon the earth.  Now, if we substitute 1000 years for each one of those 7 days, we get 7000 years.  And when we project 7000 years into the future from 4990 BC, we find that it falls on the year 2011 AD.
   4990 + 2011 = 7001
Note: When counting from an Old Testament date to a New Testament date, always subtract one year because there is no year zero, resulting in:
   4990 + 2011 – 1 = 7000 years exactly.
The year 2011 AD will be the 7000th year from the flood of Noah's day.  It will be the end of the length of time given to mankind to find grace in God's sight.  This means that the time to find refuge in Christ has grown extremely short. We are only a little ways off from the year 2011 AD!
It is not unusual that God's people have been given insight into the timing of the end of the world. Actually, the Bible tells us this is normally the case.  In times past, God has warned His people of approaching periods of judgment:

JUDGMENT DAY: MAY 21st, 2011

We know that the year 2011 is the 7000th year from the flood. We also know that God will destroy this world in that year.  But when in 2011 will this occur?
The answer is amazing.  Let's take another look at the flood account in the book of Genesis:
Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
Faithful to His Word, God did bring the flood 7 days later in the 600th year, on the 17th day of the 2nd month of the calendar aligned with Noah's lifespan.  It was on this 17th day of the 2nd month that God shut the door on the ark,  securing the safety of its occupants and also sealing the fate of everyone else in the world outside of the ark.  They would all now certainly perish in that worldwide catastrophe.
Genesis 7:16,17 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in. And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
Earlier it was mentioned that the church age came to an end in the year 1988 AD.  It so happens that the church age began on the day of Pentecost (May 22nd) in the year 33 AD. Then 1955 years later, the church age came to its conclusion on May 21st, which was the day before Pentecost in 1988.
The Bible teaches that the end of the church age would occur simultaneously with the beginning of the great tribulation:
Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
On May 21st, 1988, God finished using the churches and congregations of the world.  The Spirit of God left all churches and Satan, the man of sin, entered into the churches to rule at that point in time.  The Bible teaches us that this awful period of judgment upon the churches would last for 23 years.  A full 23 years (8400 days exactly) would be from May 21 st, 1988 until May 21st, 2011.  This information was discovered in the Bible completely apart from the information regarding the 7000 years from the flood.
Therefore, we see that the full 23-year tribulation period concludes on May 21st, 2011.  This date is the exact day that the great tribulation comes to its end, and this is also the most likely landing spot for the 7000 years from the flood of Noah's day.
Keep in mind that God shut the door on the ark on the 17th day of the 2nd month of Noah's calendar.  We also find that May 21 st, 2011 is the end of the great tribulation period.  There is a strong relationship between the 2nd month and 17th day of Noah's calendar and May 21st, 2011 of our Gregorian calendar.  This relationship cannot be readily seen until we discover that there is another calendar to consider, which is the Hebrew (or Biblical) calendar.  May 21 st, 2011 happens to be the 17th day of the 2nd month of the Hebrew calendar.  By this, God is confirming to us that we have a very correct understanding regarding the 7000-year timeline from the flood.  May 21 st, 2011 is the equivalent date to the date when God shut the door on Noah's ark. Through this and much other Biblical information, we find that May 21 st, 2011 will be the day when God takes up into heaven His elect people. May 21st, 2011 will be Judgment Day! This is the day God shuts the door of salvation on the world.
In other words, in having the great tribulation period conclude on a day that identifies with the 17th day of the 2nd month of Noah's calendar, God is without question confirming to us that this is the day He intends to shut forever the door of entry into heaven:

1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
All the rest of mankind (billions of people) will be left behind to experience the awful judgment of God, a horrible period of 5 months of torment upon earth:
Revelation 9:3-5 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.

THE END OF THE WORLD: OCTOBER 21st, 2011

By God's grace and tremendous mercy, He is giving us advanced warning as to what He is about to do.  On Judgment Day, May 21st, 2011, this 5-month period of horrible torment will begin for all the inhabitants of the earth.  It will be on May 21st that God will raise up all the dead that have ever died from their graves.  Earthquakes will ravage the whole world as the earth will no longer conceal its dead (Isaiah 26:21). People who died as saved individuals will experience the resurrection of their bodies and immediately leave this world to forever be with the Lord. Those who died unsaved will be raised up as well, but only to have their lifeless bodies scattered about the face of all the earth. Death will be everywhere.
The Lord also emphasizes these awful 5 months of destruction in the final verse of Genesis, chapter 7:
Genesis 7:24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
Five months after May 21st, 2011 will be October 21st, 2011.  It so happens that October 21st of 2011 is also the last day of the Biblical Feast of Tabernacles (held simultaneously with the Feast of Ingathering). Tabernacles is held in the 7th month of the Hebrew calendar.  The way God speaks of this feast in the Bible is very significant:
Exodus 23:16 ...the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labours out of the field.
Exodus 34:22 And thou shalt observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year's end.
The Feast of Tabernacles / Ingathering was said to be in the "end of the year" even though it was observed in the Hebrew 7th month, which is not the end of the year.  The reason for this is that the spiritual fulfillment of this particular feast is the end of the world.  The date October 21st, 2011 will be the last day of the Feast of Tabernacles and the last day of earth's existence.  The Bible describes what will take place on October 21st, 2011 in the following passage:
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Along with the entire world and universe, all those who have sinned against God and were left behind will likewise be consumed by this fire and be eternally destroyed:

2 Thessalonians 1:8,9 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
On October 21st, 2011, God will completely destroy this creation and all of the people who never experienced the salvation of Jesus Christ along with it. The awful payment for their sinful rebellion against God will be completed by the loss of everlasting life. On October 21st, 2011, all of these poor people will cease to exist from that point forward. How sad that noble man, made in God's image, will die like a beast and perish forever:
Psalm 49:12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
There is much more to share.  But please, dear soul, be warned that the time for salvation is drawing to a rapid close!  God has given the world 7000 years from the flood, and now only a few days remain until we reach May 21st, 2011.  Before we know it, time will have run completely out.  The few grains of sand remaining in our hourglass will have elapsed and be gone forever.  Although little time remains, there is still wonderful hope for anyone today:
2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
It does not take God much time at all to save someone.  In the last hours of a terribly sinful life, the thief on the cross was saved by Christ:
Luke 23:42,43 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.  And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Our prayer is that you will receive this tract in the spirit of genuine concern in which it is being offered.  As you read this pamphlet, please carefully consider the verses quoted from the Bible, for they are the Word of God, and as such, possess absolute power and authority.  Our only hope for salvation is through the reading of the Word of God.  It is now that the door of heaven (Christ) is open.  It is now that God is saving a great multitude of people from around the world outside of the churches and congregations:
Revelation 7:9,13,14 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; ...What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?  And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
God saves through the hearing of the Word of God and no other way:
Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Read the Bible with all your family (especially your children); and along with your reading, pray for mercy.  Pray to the merciful and gracious God of the Bible that He might deliver you from the approaching destruction.  We learn a little about God's tremendous compassion in the book of Jonah.  God also gave advance warning to the people of Nineveh regarding the destruction of their city:
Jonah 3:4-9 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
