Have boiled too much rice.  Can I boil it up tomorrow and use it then?  Have heard various rumours aboutt the advisability of this.  Can you do it?

Welcome back but keep your powder dry!!

It appears that Kerry are the new Dublin, unprovoked vitriol.

General discussion / David Healy joins Sunderland

Just heard that David Healy has joined Sunderland.  Roy Keane hasn't been too hot on signing strikers.  Will Healy do the business for Sunderland?

GAA Discussion / Wexford Team's haircuts
August 21, 2008, 02:47:53 PM
It would be wonderful if they can do it.

Meant to post it earlier but do the various haircuts in the Wexford team remind you those of a Minor Team?

There are a lot of posters that have firm views on this.  What is it all about?  Things I think I know or perceive.

1.  Region of old USSR.  Was it ever a country?

2.  Within Georgia there is a region called Ossetia that is split between Georgia and Russia.  Do Ossettia want to become an autonomous region?  Have the Georgians     subjugated the south Ossettians.  Are they treated as 2nd class citizens of Georgia?   Has there been a low level guerilla war between South Ossettia and Georgia?

3.  If the South Ossettians manage to break away from Georgia, do they then want to break away from Russia.

Please explain because I would always side with the underdog but it seems to "be a plague on both your houses".

Have you noticed that boxing appears to be sexy again?  ITV and RTE are showing boxing again on Saturday nights.  Maybe it is the good role models that the boxers have now become e.g. Amir Khan.

A few years ago you would only see boxing on Sky.  Now it is on terrestrial TV.  What happened?

There a number of posters who train teams.  During the game on Saturday, we saw that players were surrounded by 3/4/5 players who did not foul the person with the ball.  Very disciplined.  How does the player with the ball get out of this?  Should the rule about charging be amended to give the surrounded player some hope?

Trainers out there, what do you tell your players?  If there a number of players surrounding one, there must be other free players?  Have not seen any teams that have any plan to combat this.

General discussion / Unexpected pleasures
August 18, 2008, 11:16:20 AM
An unexpected pleasure is watching the Childrens film on RTE1 on saturday evening at 6.30. Over the last few weeks Babe, Matilda,Shaggy Dog.  Especially when you compare it to the alternatives, X Factor, Dr Who.

Does anyone think that Galvin would get his place back if Kerry get to the AI final.  His suspension would be up and he would be eligible to play?.

I don't think that he would be able to get his place on the current team.  Although if Tyrone get through, he would be ideal to play against them.  And I think that Tyrone might do it.

Well an interesting few weeks in the offing.

GAA Discussion / A Sow's ear?

As you can see we are going about finding our new manager in a novel way.

My question is can a Manager really do a lot if the players  are not up for it?

For me it starts with the players.  Will they follow a plan regardless if they think it won't work?  I would imagine when Joe Kernan started the new pressing plan (I don't know who started it but it is most closely associated with Armagh), did the players come on board?

I await patiently.

My luddite tendencies come to the fore again.  I foolishly down loaded the new version of Windows Media Player and now I have two versions of every song/album that I had.  Not worried about the wastage of space but it is confusing for my little brain!!

Thanks in anticipation.

Putting on my new Addidas Samba runners, I got to thinking, what was the runner your 13/14 year old heart desired?  I was an Addidas "Rom" wearer but I always liked the look of the Puma equivilent.  Don't know what is was called but it looked so much cooler.

Also was in awe of the fourth and fifth year lads who had first dibs on Senior Alley for playing soccer.  They wore a black runner with a beige coloured sole but had no branding.  They called them "gutties" but they were the height of cool to liitle old 13 year old me.

I said on an earlier thread that this would be one of my favourite Irish songs.  I found it on You Tube but this time it had musical accompanyment.  As I remember it, it was sung by the lead singer during an encore at the National Stadium when he sang "Black is the Colour and The Girl in the Ghetto" Accapela.  Sometimes the human voice is tthe most powerful instrument.

I know there are many Lonfordians posters.  Was this song about Ann Lovett?

Ronaldinio at 28 is joining Brazil's Olympic squad.  I thought it was supposed to be Under 21s.

I will state that I have little interest in the Olympics now that has become professional but will the high wages of the participants mean that it will lose it cache?

GAA Discussion / Scoring points
July 15, 2008, 12:51:56 PM
I ask this question after watching the Connaught final on television.  A number of times during the game players were bearing down on the goal and rather than trying to kick the ball directly over the bar, they passed it to a player who was 10 yards closer to the goal but they had their back to the goal.

The instant that sticks in my mind was in the 2nd half when Dillon (who had already scored 4 points) was bearing down on goal and was about 30 yards from the goal.  Rather than kick the point, he passed it to a play who was in front of the goal but was closely marked.  That player missed.

Has the art of scoring been lost?

Are they any good.  Are the only good ones with Jackie Chan and Jet Lee?

Was there a golden age and what recommendations would ye have?
(and yes, I've seen Kung Fu Panda)

Coming from football land, I am in awe of the skill of hurling.

What did people think of the article in the Sunday Independent ab out the rise of Hurling in Wisconsin (not sure of the correct spelling of Milwalkee).

Would it be a template for populatrising the playing of hurling in the weaker counties or does it require that potential players stumble upon the game?

Should players just pick up the ball off the ground?

No, it is a great skill and I would hope that that idea will never come in.

The game is fast enough and we (I) don't want to look any more like Basketball than it already is.
