General discussion / Digital Radio: Is it working?
December 08, 2008, 05:05:07 PM
Was wondering if a Digital radio would be a good Chtristmas present.  I know RTE are rolling out Digital radio, what the coverage like?  Also would it receive the BBC stations.  I'm based near Cavan town.

Say this on Friday night.  Very clever staging and some very good acting.  Don't have a programme but the guy playing the priest was excellent.  All I'd say is if it is in your area, go.

Based on a book so if anyone has read it, when was it set?

The main character, the Master was very proud of a pupil with a brilliant voice who sang on the radio.  There was heavy emphasis in the play on some big Catholic festival that I know happened in 1932 and it seemed to imply that this boy may have sang at this.

I could go into more detail but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who may go.

Note: I do not wish to read this book as Pat McCabe is a bit to dark for me, reading the Butcher Boy was enough for me.

General discussion / The Princess Bride - Best film ever?
November 12, 2008, 05:37:29 PM
Prompted to write this as I discovered this film is based on an actual book.  Don't know if I should get it out of the library as the film is pretty damn perfect as it is, comedy, romance, fighting, intrigue (kinda like an Irish Wedding).  Perfect for the whole family.

In the current conflicts, over 5 million people have been killed, more than the total armed forces (on all sides) that died in the 2nd WW.  It is a frightening number when you think of it.

I'm involved in a drama production of Run for Wife and the opening and closing scenes call for an Orchestral version of Love and Marriage (Have the Frank Sinatra version if needed).  Amazon USA has a downloadable version fo 90cent but you have to have an american credit card.  Is there any way around this?

Originally set in London but now set in Cavan Town/Ballinagh area.  Should be a hoot!!

The rule that I am thinking most about is the pick up of the ball.

Currently it may be picked directly from the ground as long as the player is in a standing position.  Why don't they have to do the toe pick up?  Lookiing at the half time game at the intermediate final yesterday, the girls (and it was predominently girls) seemed to be quite comfortable picking up using the toe.

Have to say there are alot of aspects of the Ladies game that are very good i.e. the independent time keeping and the final hooter at the end.

Would be interested what lady posters think.

By all accounts, the american team played very well at the weekend.  Some commentators were suggesting that the american team as a whole were better without Tiger Woods as they were less afraid.  It was 9 years since they won the rider cup and is that not about the same time that Tiger has been on the scene?

Does this opinion hold any water?

General discussion / All change in Zimbabwe. At last!
September 16, 2008, 10:52:44 AM
Good news that Zimbabwe now has a government.  Will they use the power sharing agreement that is in NI as a model as it (so far) has been an example of how people who distrust each other and loathe each other can work for the collective good.

That said, I'd say no one really wants the Minister of Finance's job.  How can Zimbabwe dig them selvesout  of 11 million percent inflation? They are fortunate in that they have good land but I'd say that it will be hard to start farming after the disastrous policy of giving the land to ex Mugabe henchmen.

First step I'd say would be to lift international sanctions but it would be a brave company who would invest in Zimbabwe

General discussion / Art work on Demo CDs, how is it done?
September 04, 2008, 05:16:30 PM
A number of posters here seem to be in bands or know people in bands so hopefully some one can help.

My nephews who are in a band were wondering how you get CDs with Art work or a band logo on them.

Do you get a supply of blank CDs and apply the art work on these blanks or is there another way.  They don't want to have handwritten CDs although is they became famous, think of the rareity value!!!

Much thanks in advance.

No meetings of government for three months.  What will happen if the governmental report is unfavourable on the current role of the IRA army council (and why it has not disbanded)?

Can the executive survive an unfavorable report?

General discussion / Man City - New Owners?
September 01, 2008, 11:21:30 AM
Man city is being taken over by some Abu Dabie company. Is this true?

Would always have a soft spot for Man City as when I was a young lad, flirted with supporting them.  Now I support teams that are perpetual underdogs.  This year will be Hull City (I suppose it will also mirror a great album by the Housemartins London 0 Hull 4).  Last year Sunderland.

General discussion / MP3 downloads

What sites do posters use for downloading tunes or albums?

Would have a eclectic taste in music ranging from country to Gangsta rap so is there a site that has a wide range?

General discussion / What plastic can you recycle?
August 28, 2008, 04:35:36 PM
What plastics can you recycle?

Crinkly plastic e.g. plastic around flowers, Crisp packets.  Formed plastic e.g. Plastic boxes around electrical goods, trays from biscuits.  Shrink wrap from Furniture etc.

There is a lot of plastic used in wrapping of all sorts and there are recycle badges on them but what does this refer to.

Can these plastics be put in your green bin or can you bring them to your local civic amenity site?
