General discussion / 3 Killed in Cookstown car crash
April 27, 2009, 09:13:01 AM
QuoteTwo men and a woman have died in a car crash in County Tyrone.

Four other people were taken to Craigavon hospital by ambulance after the collision between two cars on the Drum Road in Cookstown.

It happened shortly before 0100 BST on Monday. When the emergency services arrived at the scene, they found a man and a woman already dead.

Another man died later. Fire crews had to use hydraulic equipment to cut people out of the two cars.

A man and a woman who were injured in the accident are in a serious but stable condition in hospital. Two younger people are in a stable condition.

Fire Service Assistant Group Commander Fergal Leonard, who was at the scene of the accident, said it was "a tragic situation".

"Fire appliances from Cookstown and Dungannon responded," he said.

"There were four people in one car and three in the other.

"We were able to administer first aid to the people. We used hydraulic cutting equipment to free people from the wreckage.

Mid-Ulster MP, Martin McGuinness has sent his sympathies to the families of the crash victims.

The Drum Road remains closed between the Dunamore Road and Killeenan Road.

General discussion / I Agree with Sammy Wilson!!!!
February 23, 2009, 12:50:48 PM

From BBC.
Quote'Jail badger baiters' says Wilson

A number of raids were carried out on Saturday
People involved in badger baiting should be jailed, Environment Minister Sammy Wilson has said.

Animal welfare workers and police carried out raids at the weekend in County Armagh over allegations of badger baiting. No arrests were made.

Mr Wilson said: "There are laws to protect badgers, but in my view, the sanctions are not strong enough."

The minister said he would be putting forward proposals before the Assembly to strengthen existing legislation.

"In the revisions to the Wildlife Order, I am going to make proposals to have prison sentences handed down to people who engage in this activity," he said.

"Anyone with any sort of humanity about them at all must take this very seriously."

Mr Wilson said he would like to increase co-operation with the authorities in the Republic of Ireland to tackle the problem.

"Whilst we can seize dogs from people's homes in Northern Ireland, they can't be seized in the Republic which leaves a bit of a loophole," he said.

It is understood that a number of dogs were removed from one place during Saturday's raids, which a police spokeswoman said were in response to reports of animal cruelty.

Police were working in partnership with the Ulster Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals.

No-one was arrested and inquiries are continuing.

Cruelty to Animals is one thing that really gets me >:( >:(

General discussion / Looks like Keane has jumped!
December 04, 2008, 11:45:08 AM
ROY KEANE has left Sunderland today.
The Black Cats boss was under severe pressure after his side plummeted into the Premier League relegation zone.

SunSport understands that Keane, 37, is no longer in charge at the Stadium of Light, although it is not yet clear whether he quit or was sacked.

Sunderland have lost six of their last seven matches despite spending £35million in the summer.

Former Manchester United star Keane started his managerial career in style by guiding them from the bottom of the Premier League.

He has since spent huge amounts in the transfer market without establishing Sunderland as a top-flight force.

David Malcolm warned that referees would vote on strike action
The start of the JJB Sports Premiership season has been plunged into chaos as Irish League referees have voted to strike over a dispute about pay.

A statement said they were "withdrawing their services with immediate effect for an indefinite period".

Irish FA chief executive Howard Wells said that efforts would be made on Friday to resolve the crisis.

However, Wells acknowledged that Saturday's scheduled programme of games appear unlikely to be played.

The announcement came after a meeting between representatives of the IFA and local referees, followed by two hours of discussions among local referees.

The strike will affect both Premiership and Championship matches.

The referees say they will continue to withdraw their services "until the situation is resolved and our grievances are addressed".

Both meetings took place on Thursday night, just two days before the IFA's new flagship top-tier division was due to start.

Referees are believed to want their match fee increased from £70 to £120 and gave the Irish FA until 2000 BST on Thursday to come up with the cash.

They also want assistants appointed for IFA Championship fixtures.

Referees' representative David Malcolm had warned they would withdraw their availability if their demands were not met.

There is a serious problem in refereeing and it has been ignored for too long

David Malcolm

"We are the poor relations of Europe and after four years of delays the Irish FA has to deal with this and deal with it today," Malcolm had told BBC Sport.

"Outside of the Welsh, we are the worst paid and worst looked after referees across Europe, and that includes Belarus and Albania.

"But I would be amazed if money was the thing holding this up.

Barton admits team-mate assault

Joey Barton initially denied the assault
Premier League footballer Joey Barton has admitted assaulting a former team-mate in a training ground row.

The Newcastle United midfielder was due to go on trial at Manchester Minshull Crown Court over the incident.

The 25-year-old changed his plea and admitted a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) shortly before the scheduled start.

He attacked Ousmane Dabo during a training ground row on 1 May last year when both played for Manchester City.

£5.8m signing

The trial, which had been due to start more than a year after the alleged assault, was put back until after the season had ended for the convenience of witnesses.

Many of the them are involved in professional football.

Liverpool-born Barton was sold by City to Newcastle in a £5.8m deal last summer, signing a five-year contract.

Newcastle United said it was not commenting on Monday's hearing.

Dabo, 31, is now playing for Rome side Lazio and was in court to hear Barton plead guilty.

Barton will be sentenced on Tuesday morning.

It is the third time Barton has been in court during 2008.

He is currently serving a six-month prison sentence, after admitting assault and affray last month over an incident in Merseyside at Christmas.

General discussion / Warning about 'Beer'
September 27, 2007, 11:45:35 AM
Police are warning all men who frequent clubs, parties and local pubs to be alert and stay cautious when offered a drink from any woman.
Many females use a date rape drug on the market called "Beer."

The drug is found in liquid form and is available anywhere. It comes in bottles, cans, or from taps and in large "kegs". Beer is used by female sexual predators at parties and bars to persuade their male victims to go home and sleep with them. A woman needs only to get a guy to consume a few units of Beer and then simply ask him home for no strings attached sex.

Men are rendered helpless against this approach. After several beers, men will often succumb to the desires to sleep with horrific looking women whom they would never normally be attracted.
After drinking beer, men often awaken with only hazy memories of exactly what happened to them the night before, often with just a vague feeling that "something bad" occurred.
At other times these unfortunate men are swindled out of their life's savings, in a familiar scam known as "a relationship."
In extreme cases, the female may even be shrewd enough to entrap the unsuspecting male into a longer term form of servitude and punishment referred to as "marriage." Men are much more susceptible to this scam after beer is administered and sex is offered by the predatory females.
Please! Forward this warning to every male you know.
If you fall victim to this "Beer" scam and the women administering it, there are male support groups where you can discuss the details of your shocking encounter with similarly victimized men. For the support group nearest you, just look up Golf Courses" in the phone book.
