I see the old thread is locked.

Whats the latest, have they moved on with the building yet?
How is it looking?

The sooner the Rovers fans are shunted out to Tallaght and away from the city the better imo  ;)

Oops. Deleted that thread my mistake, apologies Hardstation.

Anyway where were we, there was a guy in the audience on Jerry Springer with a Kerry Jersey on.
Hardstation had some interesting goings on on his street involving young lads, mitre footballs, dogs, birds and nissan micras.

Anything else?

I just ate a milk tray sweet, one with caramel and bits of nuts.

Probably will switch channels soon.

General discussion / Gaaboard catchphrases / buzzwords
January 30, 2008, 01:05:02 PM
How many of these are repeatedly thrown out by certain posters?

We have "whataboutery" and "themmuns" from our OWC freinds.

"Connolly house" seems to get a lot of mentions in relation to Donagh.

Gnevin went through a wee "doing a dev" phase last week.

Who else has a particular saying / phrase that they repeat consistantly?

So how will the teams differ from the O'Byrne cup games.
Both sides had experimental teams last time out. What old heads can we expect back?
And who of the new faces have earned a league shot.

I reckon Fennell for Dublin deserves a league shot anyway, not sure about the rest.

Perhaps Paul Brogan.
O'Mahony was doing ok but his antics on tuesday may well set him back.

GAA Discussion / New Dublin "supporters club"
January 18, 2008, 04:51:41 PM
I put this in the general section as I wanted views on what the rest of ye make of these guys.

http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MemberId=5090592217

They have provoked a good old debate on the reservoir dubs site.

What do ye reckon?

Some player came out in an Irish paper saying Keane doesnt talk to players, just kicks bins around and roars at them. Says the lads have no confidence because of him.

Keane said it will be dealt with "in house, rest assured".

Wouldnt like to be that lad!

General discussion / Internet forums and tolerance
January 11, 2008, 09:45:49 AM
Its funny how different sites vary with regards to tolerance to posters. For example this site is a GAA site yet people are welcome to register and argue that the GAA are bad / sectarian etc etc. While we may not agree, once the argument is put in a polite and non insulting manner its let go.

I registered under his holiness nb to the OWC site with a view to reading their opinions on certain issues a few weeks back. While there are a few guys who would take an extremist view of the GAA calling them racist etc, in general its not as bad as made out if you read through the threads. The majority are from a Unionist background and so hold unionist viewpoints, but thats understandable given that thats where their main fanbase is from. But all in all its not as bad as suggested imo.
That said I havent posted there yet. I wonder can the OWC boys tell me how "GAA" folk would be treated if they were to put forth their argument in a polite manner?
Would I be seen as on the wind up, or would it purely depend on what I post?

Given the recent hullaballoo over Shamrock Rovers and Thomas Davis I decided to register under His Holiness NB on the Rovers Ultras forum yesterday. Similarly to read their "side of the story" and attitude towards the GAA. I made a point not to post on here, I just wanted to hear other peoples views.

When I tried to log on today I noticed I have been banned forever with no explanation!! :o
This despite not having made one single post.

Is there any other forums out there which people have difficulty with or, as with my owc experience, doesnt seem as bad as is reputed?

General discussion / Eircom league and IFA soccer
January 09, 2008, 06:05:15 PM
Do ye like it? If not why not?

I'm basing this thread on the below quote on another thread which I found quite interesting.

"there are posters here who clearly despise Irish football but like foreign stuff and base this around some sense of loyalty to the GAA. Its a very perverse sense of patriotism"

This quote suprised me, personally I just think its shite.

What are the plus and minus points for Irish soccer?

Is there anyone out there who avoids local soccer due to patriotism to the GAA?

Disclaimer, please note this thread is in no way intended to have a dig at the poster who made the above comments, it was a comment which generally interested me and prompted me to explore further. Lest I be accused of obsession     :o

General discussion / New hard ass Mods
December 17, 2007, 09:14:01 AM
Jaysus just logged in this morning and I see that the Mods are back with a vengeance.

"Pre-emptive strikes" or the soccer threads, very good.

Also near pissed my pants with laughter as I noticed a new thread called "idiots" which quickly degenerated into threats of physical violence and great anger and condemnation was spewed forth.
Reminded me of the fight scene in "Anchorman". But before we could even wade in with our best Laoislad accepts shouting "calm down, calm down" the mods had the thread locked.
**please if you were part of this thread dont be using this one to continue your row**

Be warned anyone who is fond of a good old barney (I have taken note), mods aint taking no more shite.

May I suggest a long weekend shopping with mrs Mod was partaken in and they have decided to take out their anger and fury on the board?  :o

General discussion / Crazy shit in Dundalk
December 14, 2007, 12:05:43 PM
A man has been arrested after he tried to attack fire officers with a sword in Dundalk, Co Louth.

The attack happened in Marion Park at around 1.50am, when fire fighters were tackling a car fire in the driveway of a house.

A man in a crowd gathered nearby ran towards the fire officers brandishing what appeared to be a samurai sword.

AdvertisementThe fire fighters had to turn their hose on the man to defend themselves, knocking him to the ground .

The man was subsequently arrested and taken to Drogheda Garda Station where he is being questioned.

GAA Discussion / GPA / Grants threads

I'm against the grants, but at this stage to follow discussion on it on this site you need to be going in and out of multple threads.

Can we not just merge to the one???
