Laois facing massive blow as Higgins and Kelly look likely to quit

Two of the most talented Laois footballers of the last decade look ready to shut the door on their respective inter-county careers.

Joe Higgins and Tom Kelly have not returned to Liam Kearns' squad amidst very strong speculation that their days in a Laois shirt is over.

When confirmed it will represent a blow to Kearns who is intent on rebuilding anyway but could not afford to lose two such experienced and quality players.

Kearns has admitted that he hasn't a definite answer as to whether he will have either of the 2003 All-Stars, though if one was to return the other might also re-consider.

"I don't know but we will find out soon enough. I've been talking to them on an ongoing basis. Obviously it would be a blow to lose two such experienced players but we haven't lost hope yet and we'll be leaving the door open for them," said Kearns.

Kelly is currently on holidays and Higgins wasn't contactable yesterday but some of the other Laois senior players are getting used to the idea that they will be moving on without the pair.

Higgins is self-employed in the building industry and has found time for football much more difficult to find in recent months. His wife has also set up her own business which has compounded his problems in being able to prepare.

Kelly, who quit the panel briefly before, during Mick O'Dwyer's reign, until he was persuaded back, has also indicated that he won't be going back training with the county.

Kelly is one of the county's most natural footballers and has played international rules on a regular basis for Ireland. Higgins is a ferocious competitor but suffered a debilitating knee injury in 2004 which set him back.

The pair, who are good friends and part of the same club, St Joseph's, were part of two of the successful Laois minor teams that swept to two All-Ireland three Leinster titles from the mid to late 1990s.

Those teams looked like heralding an era of unprecedented success for the O'Moore County and it appeared a question of when and not if they would win an All-Ireland title.

But those hopes have been somewhat misplaced now and if Kelly and Higgins join Fergal Byron in retirement and follow Kevin Fitzpatrick, Chris Conway and Gary Kavanagh into inter-county oblivion then a new era will truly have been ushered in.

Fitzpatrick, Conway and Kavanagh were all released from the panel which resumed training in December.

On top of Fergal Byron's retirement after last year's championship it represents a significant clear out in Laois.

"It is a period of transition for Laois football and we have to look at new options. But to lose these two players would be a big blow," Kearns conceded.

Laois lost to Wexford in the first round of the O'Byrne Cup and must now face Kilkenny in the O'Byrne Shield.

"We were missing the likes of Darren Rooney and John O'Loughlin, we were missing Padraig McMahon because he has a problem with his shoulder. Darren Rooney is skiing, John (O'Loughlin) is playing with UCD and they are players who were missing and not available for us. I suppose you would have to mention Tom Kelly and Joe Higgins," he concluded.

Here's some good news for fans of Knight Rider..
Bad news though The Hoff won't be making a comeback...I'm sure many will be disappointed about that isn't that right ziggy!!  ;)

Knight rides again

Knight Rider is back and this time the talking car is played by a Ford Mustang. The car may be new but it still has the swishing red lights on the front and Ford is poised to launch a limited edition model for customers to buy called the GT500KR.

Six cars have been built to use in the film, including some for stunt sequences. All of the conversion work was carried out by Galpin Auto Sports, which has worked on MTV's 'Pimp My Ride', and included restyling the cars to look similar to the original Pontiac Trans-Am used in the 1980's television series.

All of the cars have lowered suspension and a supercharger to boost the 4.6-litre V8 to 500bhp. The interior has come in for plenty of attention too, with working video screens, computers and, of course, the voice of the car, KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand). The voice of KITT is played by Will Arnett, who appeared in the comedy film 'Blades of Glory'.

David Hasselhoff has had to take a back seat as he's been replaced with actor Justin Bruening who plays the son of Michael Knight. The 'Hoff' will just have to wait like the rest if us until the made-for-TV film is released on 17 February in the USA.

I was in the local takeaway last night as it was my turn to cook  ;)..
One of the wemen behind the counter was washing the tiles on the wall,It was bad enough that there was gushes of soapy water drowning most of the sockets on the wall but she then preceded to wash the sockets with a sponge full of fairy liquid and water....I honestly couldn't believe what i was seeing  :o

Anyways it gave me the idea to start this thread as im sure we all see things everyday that leave ya gobsmacked.....

Brazil are to be named as hosts of the 2014 Fifa World Cup which really isn't a surprise as they were the only candidates,But more interestingly England are bidding for 2018 along with Australia,China, the USA and a few others.
Personally i'd love if England got it,I was doing my Leaving Cert in 1996 when they hosted the Euro finals so i couldn't go to any matches..
Then again i will be 40  :o  in 2018 so god only knows what i'll be doing then

Aussie barmaid fined for crushing cans with bare breasts

AFP - Wednesday, October 24 02:34 pmPERTH, Australia (AFP) -
An Australian barmaid who entertained patrons by crushing beer cans between her bare breasts and hanging spoons off her nipples has been fined, police said Wednesday.

Luana De Faveri, 31, was fined 1,000 dollars (900 US dollars) in the Mandurah Magistrates Court in Western Australia after pleading guilty to two breaches of the Liquor Control Act.

Another barmaid who helped hang spoons on De Faveri's nipples, Tracey Leslie, 43, was fined 500 dollars while the bar manager was fined 1,000 dollars for failing to stop the pair, police said in a statement.

"She was alleged to have also crushed beer cans between her breasts during one of the offences" at the Premier Hotel in Pinjarra, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of Perth in June, police said.

The fines "send a clear message to all licensees in Peel that we will not tolerate this type of behaviour in our licensed premises," said Superintendent David Parkinson of the Peel Police District.
