Myself and my room mate are moving out of our two bedroom apartment and are looking for two people to take our places to see out the tenancy until the end of June. An option to further the tenancy on for an agreed period with the estate agent can be obtained as well.

The apartment is on Fitzroy Avenue and was decorated during the Summer. It has two large bedrooms with double beds. There is a single shower unit and a separate bathroom. There is also a spacious sitting room with a fully equipped kitchen at the back of the house.

The house is in excellent order. Rent is £210 a month.

PM me with any enquiries.

GAA Discussion / Minor Challenge Game
March 16, 2009, 11:49:21 AM
I am currently seeking a couple of challenge games with Minor teams from Armagh, Tyrone, Louth and Antrim.

The team I am in charge of is an East Down Section B standard side. Our League starts in 2 weeks.

We are willing to travel or to host.

If anybody thinks their club would be interested in organising a game with our side, send me a PM or reply in this thread.

Thanks very much.

General discussion / Legal Issues Regarding Rent
March 11, 2009, 09:57:57 AM
I don't know if any posters have had experience of this but what are the legal ramifications of cancelling a tenancy agreement with a landlord/estate agent four months before it is due to end?

Can it be done? Does the remaining rent have to be paid?

Strongest 15 on the pitch from the start and a win is likely. Anything else and we are in trouble.

Cavan are in a rut, Gordon and McComiskey are back, I think a handy enough win for Down is on the cards here.

GAA Discussion / Down v Louth
February 09, 2009, 03:44:32 PM
There hasnt been much discussion on the game so far. Think this will be a tight enough one. Louth looked sharp in the O'Byrne Cup and Id expect them to edge us out on Saturday night.
Also, does anybody have an actual idea of how big this Down panel actually is? Also, would it bee too ambituous to see Doyle, Gordon or Rogers back before the end of the League campaign?

Just wondering do any posters know of any good ways in which a Senior team could raise funds to cover their expenses for the incoming season? I know that the likes of a Night at the Races and Poker Nights have been utilised in this way before but is there any other events that have been used in the past that offer something slightly different?

A SOUTH Down MLA has voiced outrage that members of Sinn Fein's youth wing plan to visit the scene of the Narrow Water massacre this weekend.

The site outside Warrenpoint is where 18 British soldiers lost their lives in an IRA attack in August 1979.

It remains the biggest ever loss of life suffered by the British Army in Northern Ireland in a single attack and one of the most bloody episodes in the history of the Troubles.

Ogra Shinn Fein is staging a Republican Youth Weekend in Newcastle this weekend (9 to 11 January) and the agenda includes a demilitarisation protest at Ballykinler Army base and a "historical tour, tracing local republican history, including Narrow Water."

But the plan to visit Narrow Water has angered local DUP Assembly member Jim Wells.

"Most people living in South Down will be appalled that the youth wing of Sinn Fein have included as part of their conference programme an outing to celebrate and gloat over one of the most dreadful events in Northern Ireland's history," he said.

"This gruesome interest in mass slaughter indicates just how little Sinn Fein has moved on.

"They should be ashamed of this heinous crime, but instead they are encouraging their young members to regard the site of the carnage as an opportunity for a day out to celebrate multiple murder."

Sinn Fein MLA Caitriona Ruane is one of the guest speakers at the youth weekend and Mr Wells called on her to "ensure the outing is cancelled immediately."

The DUP man said he was also concerned about a "threat to vandalise" Newcastle Orange Hall.

It follows an anonymous comment on the Ogra Shinn Fein website about the Republican Youth Weekend in Newcastle, which states: "Great work, I heard there will be a change of colour outside the orange hall this year too!"

Newcastle Ogra Shinn Fein is hosting this weekend's event and spokesperson Fra Cochrane accused Mr Wells of seeking to generate "cheap headlines."

"Whilst it is encouraging that Jim Wells has the time to examine Ógra Shinn Féin blog-spots on the Internet, his latest attempt to generate controversy over genuine political discourse is designed to do nothing more than generate cheap headlines," he said.

"The weekend being organised by Ogra Shinn Féin will include debates on a diverse range of issues, involving prominent guest speakers who are taking the time to engage with young people on political and social topics.

"There will also be a number of historical tours, including a trip to Narrow Water Castle, that will allow for an explanation of some of the defining moments of the past conflict.

"Mr Wells needs to realise that Republicans fought a justifiable war against the British war machine here in Ireland, just as the Palestine people are currently doing in Gaza.

"The British Paratroop Regiment are notorious killers who, amongst a litany of other crimes in the six counties, murdered 13 innocent people in Derry on Bloody Sunday.

"The soldiers killed at Narrow Water were combatants in a bloody conflict where all sides suffered."

And the Ogra Shinn Fein spokesperson dismissed claims that the youth weekend posed a threat to Newcastle Orange Hall.

He said: "Mr Wells knows full well that it is impossible to control comments posted on an Internet site.

"He only has to examine the sectarian bile that is emailed to Loyalist band websites to understand this, yet of course he always remains silent on this issue.

"The reason why Sinn Féin has a very active youth wing is because the party puts an emphasis on political discourse and if Mr Wells would like to participate in this weekend's event he is welcome to do so.

"This is probably unlikely however, as he is still unable to speak or be photographed with Sinn Féin elected representatives, such is his inability to treat Republicans as equals."

GAA Discussion / Same Parish - Different County
November 13, 2008, 04:38:41 PM
Was on the Milford (Limerick) GAA club's website there. They have a map with every GAA club on Ireland on it. There seems to be a hell of a lot of clubs very close to each other but in different counties. Is there many clubs in Ireland that are in the same parish but in different counties? Somebody mentioned Trillick (Tyrone) and Coa (Fermanagh) to me. Id suspect Bredagh (Down) and St Malachy's (Antrim) are aswell.

GAA Discussion / Pastures New
November 04, 2008, 10:13:31 AM
From what Ive heard many clubs across the Province have lost large numbers of players this past few months to the likes of Australia and America. With jobs here in decline, especially the construction trade, these lads have had to leave to find work. With the credit crunch in full flow, will we be seeing an mass exodus of players to pastures new over the coming months?

General discussion / Computer Problem
November 01, 2008, 10:57:54 PM
Big problem at the moment. Basically, I turn my computer on and everything loads up as usual. For example, I would then go on the internet. However after about 5 minutes the computer freezes. The Mouse wont move and alt/ctrl/del wont work on the key board as it stops working as well. The only way I can get the computer working again is if I reset it.
This is happening all the time now. Does any whizzkid out there know whats wrong with it?

Hurling Discussion / Hurling 1950's Style

Taken from Down Recorder

KILCLIEF - Before Mr. Long. R.M., at Ardglass Court on Tuesday Seamus Gallagher, Dunmore Street, Belfast, lorry driver, and married with one child, was prosecuted for disorderliness and assaulting Constable Connor on Sunday, July 17th, at Kilclief.
The occasion was an important hurling final, a needle match, between County Down and County Antrim seniors. Down were in the lead; feeling ran high and turmoil started. Constable Connor went on to the field to remonstrate and Gallagher, who had previously laid upon a fellow's head, took a swipe with his hurley at the constable, and threatened to split him in half.
Constable Connor described the crowd as one of the biggest he had ever seen at Kilclief. At first he was busy directing traffic. After the interval, when rough play developed, he moved into the field. One of the Down side was hit with a hurley stick. Then the defendant, the Antrim full-back, waving his stick, struck one of the invading spectators on the face. Witness reasoned with him, whereupon ,he said he would cut me in two, and would have done so only he was restrained. Things became so bad that the match was abandoned.
Cross-examined Constable Connor stated: 'I would agree that the spectators were largely to blame. A number of them were about to attack Gallagher, who struck a man on the line. After that he was trying to keep the hostile crowd away with his stick.'
The referee, Harry Sheehan, said one player was set upon by a spectator. When Gallagher struck Breen, of Down, across the head, there was a rush on to the field. He saw attempts made at Gallagher. Cross-examined: What about the threat to cut Constable Connor in half? At that time the crowd behind the constable were coming to attack. I heard Gallagher say, 'I'm not here to give my name; I'm only here to look after myself.'
The R.M. imposed a fine of 40 shillings for assault, and adjourned the summons for disorderliness for twelve months to see how Gallagher behaved in the interval. It was in the heat of excitement that he acted as he did, and because of his previous good character he was getting off lightly. There was no excuse for threatening the constable.
