Did anyone else watch the recent BBC documentary exploring the political life of Peter Robinson? I did not view the programme when it was initially broadcast but I decided to watch the documentary late last night on the BBC IPlayer after a friend suggested that it was well worth viewing. Throughout the course of recent months my personal opinion of Peter Robinson both as a politician and person has dramatically changed. Since the humiliating revelations concerning his wife, I think that the old Robinson façade has been gradually chipped away and for the first time in years we have actually come to see Peter Robinson the human being rather than Peter Robinson the detached politician.

Like him or loathe him, I think that since the Hillsborough Agreement Peter Robinson has displayed incredible courage and unflappable determination to transform the Democratic Unionist Party into a more positive political force and to ensure the stability of the devolved administration. Robinson's gracious acceptance of the Saville Report, his views on integrated education, his criticism of both loyalist and republican violence and his increasingly positive and constructive relationship with Martin McGuinness in addition to his moving tribute to Michaela Harte and his recent visit to the Catholic St. Malachy's Church in Belfast have all indicated that Robinson is a committed advocate of power-sharing and intent upon fostering a new era of tolerance and respect alongside Martin McGuinness.

All of these events have greatly reassured me of Robinson's intentions as First Minister and I think that alongside Martin McGuinness our First and Deputy First Minister's are leading our country and communities towards a more positive and peaceful future. Both have displayed statesmanlike qualities over recent months and I think that both deserve enormous credit. When I watched the documentary on Peter Robinson it helped reinforce some of my views concerning him as a politician and in particular his long-held commitment to devolution. I have been greatly impressed by Peter Robinson's increasingly progressive behaviour and rhetoric and this documentary helped me gain a more rounded view of the man and the politician.

On a more humorous note I was surprised that he actually looked quite cool in the 1970's and his wife was extremely pretty during that time!  ;D

Anyway, did anyone else watch the documentary and if so what did you think? If you did not see the documentary then I would like to ask has your opinion of Peter Robinson has changed in recent months and if so why? Cheers!
