General discussion / Re: Moving to Cardiff
October 13, 2011, 03:45:00 AM
Mayo it's a great city you'll love it. I lived there for years and i lived in the Roath area, i lived in a fair few cities and Cardiff was my fav. People are a good laugh, lots to do, not too expensive, loads of good boozers, lots of clubs and restaurants. Just a good mix and if you're single you won't be for long.

No singing/chanting is because there is always plenty of action.  You dont hear tehm chanting a soccer games when someone is clean through on goal.  Just basically when it is getting passed around the middle, thow in, corners, free kicks, were they take forever to hit.  So basically quite alot!   Mind you with the way Donegal are developing the game, there might be alot more chanting  ;) "One nil to the Donegal, One nil to the Donegal"

1.Considering you are an Ulster man ffs your teams love to pass it around the middle. Donegal fans would be horse coming from every game.  :D

2.As far the poster who said meeting other county fans is what makes the day, ffs that says a lot about the standard of the match or at least your county. What makes the day is going with your friends to the match and seeing your county win or at least play a good game not making small talk to culchie strangers.

3.There seems to be an even split for those for and against the motion, i hope it is something brought forward at congress.

Hold on a  second the Dubs on the Hill is a perfect example of what can be achieved ! Why can't it always be like this?

I know must people will probably think i am trying to wind people up with this but i think if there were segregation it would greatly help the atmosphere at matches. You could have an section for both sets of fans and then if you did not want to sit or stand at either end you could move into the middle section where there was no segregation. You would have 2 groups singing songs helping to boost the atmosphere at games. BTW i suggest this as i think there is a huge problem with the atmosphere at most championship games it does not exist.

Sure at least ye still have Sligo Rovers.

:D :D :D Magpie Seany should go into meltdown when he sees that, although they do seem to have more success that the Gaelic football team.

We have a mountain to climb at all levels. What i witnessed yday was shocking bad in Markieivicz. I think neil your missing seanies point, why have we been so good at senior from 1995 to 2010 with no underage success? Simply because we were able to bring through 2/3 minors every yr. Thats all you need.

Our history and tradition is pathetic and isnt going to change overnight, there are loads of obstacles within the county to any sort of underage success or consistency at senior level, but these losses may result in the quickening of implementing the changes and solutions necessay starting with the sacking of the minor, u21 and senior management along with looking seriously at coaching the county.

You want to sack the minor manager even though Sligo just were beaten by Galway by 4 points. Under 21's went so close last year, senior ok something has gone wrong. You seem to have an OTT reaction t everything, do you understand the game?  ???

GAA Discussion / Sligo GAA - What's gone wrong?

Since defeat to Roscommon last year by a point they have just gone back ways, but not just backways but backways at an amazing rate of knots. They were probably punching above their weight alright with Walsh last year and he might have been unlucky not to survive in Division 2 but still they are a shadow of the team they were last year.

Anopther thing i noticed about Sligo is that no one tells it as it is everybody is afraid to upset the anyone. O'Hara is finished could do a job for 25 minutes of half hour max but no one will say that.

So Sligonian are you saying Sligo are have a good underage structure or not, because you went ballistic went poor Indiana for pointing out Sligo's poor minor record. One minor title in a basically a 4 horse race most years.

I thought i posted this message must have hit preview.

Sligo fans want Walsh no matter what Sligonian says, Sligonian do you go to games in your county even? You don't seem to know the youth structure. Walsh is one of the best young managers if not the best and probably will have a lot of counties looking for him.

The GAA hierarchy are destroying their games/competitions and price is only one factor.

I see on the Connacht Council website that entry for the Sligo v Leitrim game on next Sunday is €30 for the stand or €20 for the Terrace. Compared to other events that might look good value. But this is an amateur association which is supposed to be for the benefit of the community and we are going through very difficulty times in this country currently. How many will be at this match between a team that was relegated to Division 3 and a team that had a mediocre league in Division 4? 5,000 I would say. You could take it that any Connacht Championship game would attract 10,000. The Final anything from about 20,000 to 30,000 depending on how teams are going.

We keep being told the League doesn't matter so the crowds going to that are dwindling.

The Championship used to be do-or-die and now teams seem happy enough to try their chances in the back door. The luke warm supporter now waits for the bigger days and if they don't come so-be-it.

When it does get to the back-door only the really interested supporters know the games are on and will go if they can.

And even for the Quarter Finals the type of crowd that will travel can be uncertain enough.

Is it a generational change? The hard-core support in Mayo is certainly dwindling, I'm not sure about other counties but even the likes of the Ulster counties seem to bring much fewer travelling supporters. Do people see it as a day out, and just entertainment rather than a hunger to succeed?

Spot on just heard this, €30 to sit down? Are they for real, what planet are they living on? It's a divison 3 team v a division 4 side. Do they know there is a recession going on? Look at the crowd at Donegal v Antrim well down on previous championship matches at the same venue.  People are quoting international cricket matches, International soccer matches & big concerts etc etc would want to wise up. There is no value in these ticket prices for this match and no justification for charging these prices either by an amateur organisation who have no wages to play, Sligo Rovers play at home this weekend it's €15 into that surely people should that match would be a better comparison than bloody concerts?

what makes you think I give a rashers about this?

Had a read of it on boards.ie and it appears he randomly kicked the ball towards the tunnel, hit the kid and immediately apologised. From the look of it the rest is random internet exaggeration.

But he was made apologoise which i think is fair to the same as not apologising at all. Would you have no shame that the 'leader' of your club does an act like this and walks away. This would never happen in the GAA we don't do this to kids can't imagine any of the gaelic football manager doing this and being chased to apologise to a child. It's another reason why people Shamrock Rovers our losing interest in you. Drop in season ticket sales is probably ordinary people are seeing what the ring leaders of the club are like.

Found this on a forum

In a fit or anger as he walked off the pitch tonight he kicked a ball with full force towards the tunnel, Unfortunately for him it hit James (our super mascot who has down syndrome) with full force and hurt him badly. He saw what happened and continued on into the dressing room. Apparently after it was said to him by some press or players in the dressingroom he came out and started saying sorry to me, so I made him aware that James is fully aware of his surroundings (as any of you who have ever spoken to him will know) and he should say sorry to him. He then shook his hand and said sorry. He then turned to me and said that Bohs were **** and that rovers dominated the game. He said and I quote'sure you only scored from a corner'. My reply of course was 'so did you'. He lost the head completely and was dragged away by one of the coaching staff whilst spitting fire towards me.
In fairness, I have got a few messages, indirectly, of goodwill from rovers players and staff who were appalled at his behavior.
James was very upset all the way home and so were his parents on seeing the bruising.
I hope you are proud of yourself Michael O'Neill.

I took that piece from a forum this morning.
Nothing more than I`d expect from the leader of that bunch.

Dublin fella what do you have to say for yourself

Disgusting and disgraceful comments about the GAA as usual, he is very anti GAA any story that can blacken the great name of the GAA or we are link to he will bring up. I am pretty sure i know who he is from my contacts at his beloved Shamrock Rovers. Unless he apologises i will name and shame him  :D ;)
