the buddy kiernans are indeed staunch ballymachugh men, and 4 brothers played for the team in the late 80,s and early 90's.  the pub is in ballymachugh parish.  tough hard men.

most boys in ballymachugh are would have got their schooling in granard.

eugene kiernan who represented cavan in late 80's is also a ballymachugh man, but not from the buddy family. no relation at all in fact. another tough man.
he and his brothers are involved in the mushroom industry whereas the buddys are primarily in the pig industry.

as regards the game i think longford have to be favourites on the basis of what we saw in the first round. very unlucky not to beat kildare, if they had the shooting boots on then kildare would have been well beaten.
but tradition is a funny thing, historically cavan have been a lot superior than longford, so hopefully that will count for something. this is a great local draw for both counties, the first meeting in the championship? am i right?
heart says cavan, but my head is telling me longford by 4

actually yes.
it does seem like a silly question- first let me explain.
unless i am sitting about 5km over the speed limit everyone is flying passed me
also the GPS is 100% accurate with distances, and it changes in line with the car mileage clock

General discussion / car question

i have recently bought a GPS for the car, and i notice as i drive that it is consistenly reading about 6 or 7km per hour lower than the speedometer.
anyone else notice something like this?
which one would you go by?

sorry to say it aerlik, but i think freo are over-achieving this year...next year- i think they'll settle back to mid-table---  i could be proved wrong! ;)
i fancy st. kilda-- think the cats are getting on in years and despite the hype - i'm not convinced by the magpies-- can they really really really do it-- when the season is on the line?? the amount they miss in games is criminal-- what will happen in tight games with the season resting on it----------
st' kilda have proved last year that they are within touching distance-- collingwood have never been in the situation where it is completely do or die.... i think they'll fold yet...
interesting times ahead!

think it'll be:
geelong v freo-- geelong
bulldogs v sydney--- sydney

collingwood v geelong-- geelong
st kilda v sydney-- st. kilda

and in the final- st. kilda to avenge last years loss in a low scoring game

i saw naomh Columbas in a challenge game earlier this year, first time i saw them in about 4 years.
They were a massive improvement from what i remembered-- some lovely young useful tidy footballers-- was impressed with what i saw that day. (albeit against extremely limited opposition)
the future looks bright there

The governments should simply get rid of red and green diesel and tax all diesel at the same rate.

i know in australia the price is the same, then its up to the indivual/company to claim back in tax returns any diesel used for agricultural purposes- not sure how much they can claim.
doesn't seem a bad idea

RIP Mick Higgins, a true legend. if even half the stories i've heard about him are true, he indeed must have been a special player

re the hastings final,  is that the roscommon team which won minor title a few years ago or am i getting my years totally mixed up?

hi guys, long time reading this page without getting involved. greetings to all, i feel like i sort iof know ye boys by now!!
and thanks for all the contributions- a good way of keeping up to speed

the co. board is very badly organised re club games. always has been.

how can a competition which needs a max of 16 fixtures start around end march/april and not be finished around october or nov at the latest?
from playing, i recall massive massive portions of the summer spent playing meaningless challenges against teams from meath, westmeath and longford, often going 6 or 7 weekends with no competitive games- from around mid- may onwards.
and then having to slog it out in 3 inches of mud in nov and december. madness.

and highly frustrating when trying to plan anything.

i remember watching galways video a year till sunday, and being absolutley stunned when they played senior club championship games in the weekends between all ireand semi amd the final. and yet we here postpone league games for 3 weeks prior to ulster first round.

while i mostly understand and side with boojangles points in the little arguement above, i do think drung raises a most important issue=
the co. board are democratically elected, and there is no point moaning here. if we feel that strongly about it, do something about it. get involved

watson bowled gayle out and then just basicallly ran up and screamed in his face and bounced up and down in front of him for about 5 seconds as gayle was turning to walk. gayle just paused to look at him and showed a lot restraint not to go for him.
chatting to a few aussies, they are of the opinion a lot of the latest squad are living off the assiocated glory of being an aussie cricketer without achieving the results. but in fairness there's not a lot of players out there who could replace mcgrath, warne et al. think lee is nearly done also.

its nicely set up for today aerlik, but could be a short day. enjoy it

watson acted like a complete tool, gayle would have been well within his rights to knock his head off.
gayle seems like a very likeable character- one of the entertainers. unreal style to his play.

actually fairly entertaining 3rd test. the adelaide one was poo.
looks like the aussies have her
