GAA Discussion / Re: Bredagh talks Liam & Sam 2011

I wonder will wee Pete mention Meath v Tyrone 1996 to Sean Boylan at the chat night. It could be the only controversy in what might be an amicable enough night.

The GAA has embraced the objective of reaching out to the other community in NI with an enthusiasm that has surprised many, including me and I am proud of their endeavours. I was aware of the start of the above initiative and quite frankly doubted its potential. I have however found myself to be very surprised at the way in which the organisation has taken the idea and developed it. I wish that the GAA could work in many communities in NI that they are not now in, as the organisation offers so much to young people. For example, if a young person isn't interested in rugby or soccer they may find a home in the GAA.

General discussion / Re: 11-Plus Proposal
March 02, 2010, 09:27:43 PM
Whilst it might be ironic to some that the Catholic Church have decided to present a plan to modernise the education system they are prepared to risk the ire of many by doing so. That aside they are presenting a value based approach to the modernisation of education in NI. Everyone (political parties and schools inc grammars) appear to accept that the 11Plus is wrong but few are prepared to take responsibility for working out alternative plans. This is what the Church and the Catholic schools are doing. Their plans may not be perfect, in fact they may be wrong in some instances, but at least they have spent three years working with schools to come up with plans open for consultation.

I wonder will Bredagh try to get any of the Tyrone Panel or Management Team to attend. I would be interesting to hear what they think of this years run and how Tyrone could build for the future. Oisin's perspective on how to bring new blood on to a very talented panel would also be interesting.  I'm sure Joe Brolly will be giving some insights into what went on behind the scenes on Sunday.
