heard some interesting news this morning regarding two withdrawals from the Tyrone squad for this year:One very prominent senior player and one of the up and coming young stars. I dont want to give the names just yet but my source was pretty good.

Well done to Omagh CBS on their great win in today's Rannafast Cup Final on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-10. Not a bad return for a team that very few in the school fancied to win anything. A fine achievement for the two lads in charge. Young Mc Crory looks like he is quite a prospect

Just to point out Jerome wasn't anywhere near Pomeroy on Saturday nor Omagh on Friday night. All those highlights and interviews from those four games came from Kieran Mc Mullan on camera and Gerard Jet "we won the lottery" Tracey on the mike. Saturday's game was tough on Omagh but I still feel they are in with a great chance of winning the league. Put the Ardboe game down to experience and learn from it.

Just back from Hols and having caught up with the weekend's results I am predicting a relegation/promotion play off Div 1 and 2 between Loughmacrory and Greencastle. That should be quite a game with so much at stake. Ziggy how would such a derby fixture go down in your neck of the woods?

St Macartans won easily 4-16 to 3 points. Very one sided game but excellent display from the Clogher Valley outfit. Congrats to Greencastle on a very well organised and thoroughly professional show tonight. The lights were superb, pity about the weather. cappagh 4-6 Omagh 3-6 in a very close and exciting Junior final. Late goal by Aisling Porter sealed a narrow victory for the girls in blue, commiserations to a very gallant Omagh side for whom Christy Anne Hunter was excellent at centre back

Now that the Aussies aren't coming is there any thing that can be done between now and the Autumn to raise the profile of The Railway Cup? I see Mickey Harte alluded to it this morning in his column but it would appear that the players and the paying public are unwilling to give it the recognition and status it deserves. Is the timing or organisation of the fixtures wrong? In other codes and other countries "State of Origin" type games are well attended and high profile. In this very important year in the history of the association surely we can do something similar to the opening of the National League and restore this once great competition to its rightful place. If we fail to achieve such a thing this year we might as well consign it to history.

Mickey Harte will go on forever.

Hopefully Mickey will stay on and surpass even Micko's record. Questions remain however about the minor and under 21 management teams. Surely they won't be about for much longer and it will be interesting to see if Peter, Chris lawn etc put themselves forward to look after those two groups.

'Peter' is just fine where he is.. ;) :D

I hope you dont mean sharing a studio with messrs Hayes and Magee? ;)

I reckon it is only a matter of time till Peter becomes involved in some way with the county set up in Tyrone. It will be a loss to his club but he could try and combine both roles as was done very successfully by MH in the past.

I know we have been reassured that the surface will not be a problem this weekend but I am not convinced. I remember a match in Croker a number of years ago after a concert had taken place the previoius weekend and a young Dublin Minor I think it was suffered a very bad ankle injury when he tried to go past an opponent and a large divot gave way. Hoping the same does not happen this weekend. Imagine some memebers of The GPA suffering such an injury!!!!! The legal implications could have wider ramifications than The Morris Tribunal ::)

Recall singing (badly) the well know tune by Smokie at a family wedding at 6 yrs old. Am still reminded of it by some folk. Fortunately therapy and alcohol have helped erase most of the memories.

Are you suggesting that these guys should be replaced? Overall I believe our record in these competitions has been very good over the past few years. Granted there are lots of people who will claim that the teams that have been successful recently, like last year's minor squad, would have won an all Ireland regardless of who the managers were. I would not necessarily agree. The men who have been entrusted with looking after these teams are very committed gaels. They are building on the good work being done throughout the county in clubs, schools and development squads and long may that continue. It would be interesting to see who you might suggest could do the job if the present managers were to step aside.

GAA Discussion / Managers under pressure?
July 28, 2009, 08:00:41 PM
With the race for Sam down to the last 9 teams and Tommy Carr seemingly ready for the chop in Cavan, which managers are under most pressure to "deliver" this weekend? Will there be others like Carr who might not be around when the NFL gets underway next year?

Having looked closely, I have just discovered that seat 111 comes between seats 110 and 112 ;D
