I hate having to play Kerry - they always make it tougher than it should be for us - a real gritty wee outfit.

Bollix - I think they see us as their amateur league at the moment.

Sorry Whacker, hes a lad playing for Derry City, best feet in Tyrone but I think  hes  a "full time pro" up there.  I cant stomach losing lads like these to lower paid so called professional sports same as Coney.

It would be very nice to get Mc Ginn back, he had potential to be the next Canavan, but who is advising the lad - Is he in communication with anyone from Tyrone GAA.   I would hope a fellow of his skill level would have more ambition than to play in front of a couple of thousand people a week for a few hundred a week if he moves on to become a serious level professional in say England or Scotland but I mean Derry City, then he may deem it will have been worth his while, but when I see where his undoubted talent  is being wasted as a Tyrone man it makes me sick for the lad.  What age is he - 22 he has undoubtedly missed one all Ireland medal so far and will probably discover too late what a mistake he is making.  Puddle league soccor.  Well I suppose each to their own.  Derry city cant sustain professionalism even at that level for too long anyway.

Ill give you a ton for them.

Im a little concerned about how much publicity photoshoots/interviews have been taken of the senior team and the minors in the run up to the most important day ever for Tyrone football.  Anyone else noting this.  As long as the guys retain their focus. - but how can ye legislate for minors.

First of all congratulations to the bearded wonders from Tyrone - a really top notch display but lets put it like this the Dublin performance was that of a team that refuses to play in rain and in physical games.  It scared me how very little they are prepared to do to win.  I think bar three or 4 of that team the rest should be given their P45s along with Caffrey.  Theres too much scar tissue built up.  Looking at the draws and without any intended disrespect I suspect that there will be a double Tyrone Kerry all Ireland final with minors and seniors playing this out.  Tyrone heads need to be kept down and focussed but they should get there and anything can happen in an AIfinal.  I would still love to see O Neill back as I think he would be needed for Tyrone to take Kerry.  But for the moment respect to mickey for taking this team back to a level for a shot at Sam.

Heaney tends to believe things happen because of journalism - not the other way around.  Interesting world he lives in.

GAA Discussion / Re: Tír Eoghain vs Ath Cliath '08

This game defines the championship.  Put it like this we seen Cork V Kildare and they will probably let the Kingdom turn them over again 2nd time around.  So its Kerry v who in the AIF 2008. Will they have a decent opposition?
Heres the beef:
Both Tyrone and Dublin would struggle against Wexford who are better than most buit they are the 5th best team left in the competition.  I hate to rain on any parade but the blustery hype around Dublin hides their weaknesses, they have momentum and are always dangerous, but they suffer from the pillerwobbles, and the pillerwobbles phenomenon  has defined this managers era.  Of the 5 managers left in the championship, Paul Caffrey is the weakest among them all.  Whilst Counihan has achieved little he still has taken Kerry, Ryan looks to be the hottest prospect in the GAA, whilst Hartes (2 AI) dangerous on his swansong and O Se has proven himself also as an all ireland winning manager.  More often than not when we come to this stage all else being equal, the role of the manager can make all the difference.  Harte willl not fail in this regard buoyed by 2 all ireland wins he knows how to move, how to guide his team home.  Over 4 years Caffrey has stammered and struggled with what does look like a very good team, but when the team meets a tough challengfe and the guys like Whelan etc look over to the line,do they get the response they need? A categoric no is the answer, If I was a Dub Id be very nervous on Saturday, Midway through the second half, Tyrone and Dublin will be locked in gladiatorial battle, some will look to the sideline, Harte will make his move, Caffrey will make his move.  Unfortunately I believe the pillerwobble is very much alive and kicking and come Saturday evening Caffrey will have cost Dublin another tilt at the All Ireland.  Id love to see the Dubs to win the ALL Ireland but I was raging that the county board gave Caffrey another year - a terrible decision.

GAA Discussion / Re: Championship Year Ahead

Progress to date of the provincial winners:
Cork: Are Cork as bad as their first half or as strong as their second half.  My feeling on Cork is that they are a viable championship contender - as advanced as there is at the moment.  Im unsure if they could handle an armagh or Monagh at the moment but given an Ulster lite team in the quarter final it could take them on a bit.
Armagh: Very uninspiring at the moment they dont to me look like a team that will win an All Ireland yet they have a slow powerful winning technique.  I have an inkling for an Armagh Mayo AIF but its much too early to predict events like that.
Galway: Dont rate them / actually think Mayo are a better bet.  Joyce too old, team too lite.
The Dubs:  They must be good, surely to post winning scores like that.  What I dont like about the dubs is that they have played nobody ,but shown everybody.  Theres some smart managers left in the championship and I dont have Caffrey down as one of them.  Yet they might just come through and win an average ALL Ireland like they did in 1995.
Overall I dont believe in Kerry this year, as I believe their team fared well to win 2 in a row are not 3 in a row material. and I believe one team from the pack will establish a new momentum and come from nowhere to win Sam.  So many teams are capable of winning this year, but only a few have the know how in their ranks.  I would not back against John O Mahony.  Monaghan also have a lot of teethy footballers and who knows what a win on Sunday would do for them.

GAA Discussion / Re: Cill Dara v Fear Manach

Mc Geeney has Kildare fighting to the end, a trait of his own and a trait of fermanaghs.  What have the titanic battles against Armagh shown us about Fermanagh.  That they have tremendous character, tremendous defensive and midfield ability but it stops there.  They will win an Ulster next year if they sort the forward problems out.  Could Croke Park let them open up their game in the final third.  I think Kildare are probably Leinsters third best team and I cant see them, beating Ulsters second best.  Ill tip Fermanagh but it depends on whether its a case of how much Armagh took from them as opposed to how much Armagh taught them.
