GAA Discussion / Re: Injury advice please
April 02, 2008, 12:56:52 PM
regarding that wrist injury. you will need to regain the strength in it before you attempt to play again. those hand grip devices are excellent for the wrist. so are streess balls where you would squeeze it as hard as you can and hold for three seconds and repeat 10 times. you would need to do this fairly reguarly each day.

jesus after watching that the standard of football ewas woeful back then, granted the conitions were bad but basic kicking and handling errors were made right throughout the game, the players just seemed to hit and hope as soon as they got the ball.. great elbow by mullins though it was a clinker!!

does anyone think stevie o'neill might be completly burned out and is picking up serious injuires as a result or is it just bad luck.. think about it he has been on the go since 97 with the minors, 98 with minors 99-2000 with the u21's and 2000-07 with the seniors not to mention university and club games thats a hell of a lot of games and training.

GAA Discussion / Stephen O'Neill's operation
September 25, 2007, 05:48:13 PM
Tyrone football supremo Mickey Harte has all but resigned himself to being without ace attacker Stephen O'Neill as the attacker faces up to the prospect of knee surgery.

O'Neill has been troubled by knee problems for the past number of months and surgery now seems inevitable.

"Stephen probably needs surgery and that will possibly happen in the forseeable future," said Harte.

"I understand that the recovery time will be six to seven months and it is likely Stephen will miss the most of next season's National League.

"The primary wim at the moment is to get the problem with his knee fixed and after that the target will be to hopefully be fully recovered and ready for next year's championship, all being well.

"He has had the tendonitis condition for a while. There is a bit of a tear behind the kneecap and that's caused Stephen great problems.

"In trying to compensate for it to play football, the condition has caused other problems with his hamstring and it looks at the moment that he will ahve surgery to sort out the problem in the near future."

i find this a bit strange.. why was o'neill not in for the operation straight after the championship its now about a month and a half since tyrone went out and only now are they talking about an operation it would be better for the player and tyrone if he had it as soon as possible.. it would enable him to get match practice ahead of the chmpionship rather than missing the whole nfl... when you think about it he has more or less missed 2 years of football except for brief appearences here and there..

you could pick two or three very good ff lines
if they were all fit and vailable

freeman bradley mcdonnell or..

o'neill coulter mc gourty or

mc fadden clarke mulligan

johnstone gordon devenney etc

mcdonnell bradley and freeman would have to be first choice at the minute though

mc guinness is in the frame along with mc ivor, charlie mulgrew and donal reid.. mc guinness has a good enough pedigree having managed glenties to the club championship in 2005 he is sytill inexperienced in terms of county management... he is supposed to be a very good coach and would be up to date with the leatest sports science etc.. he was doing the finn harps fitness training during their pre season..
