Hi all,

Unfortunately Réalt Dearg were recently beaten in the county semi final of the Junior D championship halting our progress up the ranks. However we still remain in contention for the league final and with it promotion to AHL6 for next year.

Essentially Réalt Dearg is a club set up by players, for players. That sounds cliché but we really are run by the players. We currently field two adult Junior teams in League, Cup and Championship. A problem we face in the future is that as the players age and retire we may run out of players as our plans for underage teams are some way down the road yet. We're not here to poach anyones players, we offer a route into hurling for people who haven't hurled for a while due to work, travel etc or for people who can no longer afford to be going home to play while working in Dublin.

Our aim is to keep the club progressing up the divisions, right up to senior long term. To do this we will need an underage set up and this is something we are working on. However for now we to get more adult players involved. If you think you would enjoy junior hurling in Dublin or are just looking to try out hurling next Spring then please contact us and we'll stay in touch over the winter to let you know when we start back.

I appreciate this is very early to advertise for next season but even if you haven't hurled since U-16 you'd need a transfer form so we'd like to sort them out over the winter months so you're ready to go for the cup competitions in February. To contact us please email realtdearg.hurlingclub@gmail.com or visit www.realtdearg.ie and text/call one of the committee. Thanks for your support.

Hurling Discussion / Réalt Dearg urgently needs goalie
February 28, 2012, 05:11:10 PM
Hi all,

Réalt Dearg hurling club in Terenure in Dublin is desperately stuck for a goalie if any of you are living in Dublin and have been away from the game for any length of time. We're currently playing an outfielder on goal for our second team and have no sub goalie for our 1st team. This is far from ideal and we are urgently seeking anyone who has any interest in getting back hurling to play on goal at junior level to contact us immediately as first round of league games are in a few days. email us at realtdearg.hurlingclub@gmail.com or visit www.realtdearg.ie please if interested. Would really appreciate any help with this.

First game is on the 21st Feb so if you are looking to get involved as a player and be eligible for first round of matches you should contact us as soon as you can by emailing realtdearg.hurlingclub@gmail.com or visit www.realtdearg.ie and go to committee and contacts section.

We would also appreciate people getting involved as managers/selectors for both teams!

Hi all!

Réalt Dearg Hurling Club was founded in Terenure, Dublin in Nov 2009 with the short term aim of getting as many people who had fallen away from the game back involved in hurling as possible and the long term aim of setting up a self-sufficient club which is part of the community in Terenure and with full underage structures in place.

So far we have two adult teams in the cup, league and championship competitions, along with one team in the Leinster league. Last year our A team lost the championship semi to Kilmacud Crokes after extra time and then lost the League final replay after extra time to Clan na Gael Fontenoy. Disappointing but huge progress in two years and reaching the league final means promotion for 2012.

We realize that there are many lads out there who have stopped hurling due to work or lack of interest for a time or a host of various reasons. Once you stop it can be very hard to go back. Our club will always have a team entered in the junior divisions in Dublin suitable for lads who have been out of the game for a while to ease back into it and work their way back up the grades. It can be very hard to make it back home for training when based in Dublin. Eighteen months ago I was faced with the situation of either giving up hurling or joining a club in Dublin. I joined Réalt Dearg and never looked back! Whether you want to join up or just train mid-week and go back home at weekends, all are welcome, the more numbers at training the better!

We are looking for people to get involved both as players, managers, selectors, trainers and of course, loyal supporters so if you are based in Dublin do feel free to contact us. Contact details for committee members are on www.realtdearg.ie
