can't take this thread seriously with that title. it should be "on a scale of 1-7 how mad is Sinead O'Connor?"

Can anyone remember a game anywhere ever that that kickout strategy of Tyrone was used? (Apart from various Tyrone matches of recent years, the All-Ireland Semi v Cork 2009 being the other example when it blew up in their faces).

Seriously, is it excusable? Tyrone have a heap of 6 footers in the team and around the middle, by using this tactic are they saying "we don't rate you and your ability to win the ball." Confusing to say the least, especially at that level.

Even if you were scared shitless of the O'Shea's sure you could spoil the ball at MF and work off breaks which Tyrone did expertly in the past. You can't win a game without taking a risk and introducing uncertainty into the equation. Kicking the ball out to corner backs and playing around inside the 45 and sometimes 21 is about the most conservative tactic available.

Yip you are correct....and the same thing can be said about Tyrone, and Armagh too. Kicked around Croke Park for years with no protection whatsoever. John Lynch was took out of it by Tommy Doyle in 86 and every Tyrone man was took out of it in 1996 against Meath. Toe to toe Tyrone would have beat Kerry in 2003, 05 and 8 as well cause they had better players! Its a mindset where by we are going to get tramped over by anyone anymore.

Roddy,

No harm to you but your away with the fairies.

Hold on a minute lads, Tyrone did go toe to toe with Kerry in 03 05 & 08. How else would you explain it? They didn't go out and beat them with kid gloves on or at arms length, Tyrone beat them out the gate in 03 and came through 2 great battles in 05 & 08

Joe had no problems celebrating in 2006 when Derry beat Tyrone in Omagh. If you watch the game you will see some of the most cynical tackles and play of the previous 15 years. The Tyrone players were simply not allowed to play, and Sean Cavanagh was pulled to the ground at every sign of danger.

Joe was dancing in the stands afterwards and had no problems with the Derry style of play, which at the end of the day won them the game.

Maybe Joe should go back and have a look at that game and his comments about it afterwards before he launches another personal attack.

Kevin Hughes got himself sent off early that day, Mickey had a brain-fart with team selection, Derry were the better team all over the pitch and won deservedly, that's how I remember it anyway. And Joe was entitled to celebrate.

General discussion / Re: Irish folk music thread

Heard a Irish folk tune on RTE radio recently but can't find it anywhere, maybe someone can help?

I think the band were called Skyhook, and the tune Boolya. It could be the other way around for name of artist and tune tbh, also the "boolya" would be spelt in differently as it was almost certainly Irish but that's the closest I can get to it phonetically from memory.

From the clues above I'll be impressed if anyone knows of it! :p

I do enjoy the Lions tours, one of the few amalgamation teams in any sport that actually works.

I am a fan of the Lions too but just as an alternative opinion this article may be worth a read

I have been to garvaghy, I have seen it with my own two eyes.

I have saw the polar bears. The gym, oh the gym it could have been so much better. I can confirm not a cat could be swung in the place. Probably could only fit 4 to 5 people in it at any one time.

bit of a shambles like.

maybe it's wan of these new tight fit gyms, be deadly if it was, heard all about them, they'll be unbeatable if it is!

14 yard free awarded, free kick sails 5ft over the posts for a point, referee disallows it for a square ball.

is it correct to award a square ball in this case even if another player from the attacking team did encroach?

Yes.

Regarding the recent rule change: The rule is unchanged with regard to "Set Play" i.e. Free Kicks, Line Balls and 45s – in these instances players are not permitted to enter the small rectangle before the ball.

cheers for that. seems strange if the ball clears the crossbar by a considerable distance

if someone could clear this one up that'd be lovely...

Congrats Donegal

By the way, if anyone is coming this way (Yorkshire - Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, Bradford, etc) for work or studies in the coming months and are interested to get involved with a competitive and friendly football club with close ties also to other local Hurling and Ladies Football teams then please get in touch.
