Title: Thinking of a new Tyrone "fan club"...
Post by: RedHand88 on July 23, 2017, 01:48:23 AM
Last few years I've been thinking our support at league and championship level has been a bit... meh. It seems the glory days of the noughties are a distant memory and the colour and atmosphere in recent years isn't what it used to be. Call it increased expectations, all ireland novelty gone, whatever. Yes the Ulster finals of past 2 years have been decent but I think it could be improved with a bit of organisation.

Been taking notice of the Mayo 51 ones in recent years and you can see/hear the difference they make at games. What's the chances of getting a similar operation up and running in Tyrone? I know there's enough season ticket holders out there to show an interest. I'm thinking...

Linking season tickets into groups.
Banners/flags, not your usual 10 white/red chequered flag bought on jones' road. Thinking bigger.
Meeting up before matches.
Facebook/Twitter pages giving info etc for fans.
Focusing on creating a bigger and better atmosphere at games.

Is anyone interested in helping build something like this?

i think its an excellent idea. ive always thought we  should have supporters clubs to organize buses to games, especially away league games. the problem this last few years with regards to dwindling support is more to do with the dross negative football we have been forced to watch and alot of people dissolusioned with the management. but maybe things are set to improve and ur idea could gather legs.

We got lucky with the league fixtures these last few years in that teams had to travel long distances to come to us rather than us to them. Looking at next year's league there's almost certainly going to be a few big away days and supporter buses are an excellent idea. It's getting word out to gather numbers though.

If the big scores keep up there can't be an argument that Tyrone are a negative team so hopefully the interest increases. Do you know of many who would be interested in that sort of thing?

Have a look at http://mayoclub51.com/about-mayo-supporters-club/ (http://mayoclub51.com/about-mayo-supporters-club/) and see what I mean.

the interest would surely be there. tyrone will always be a football mad county. i attended alot of club championship games last year and crowds were amazing. over 10 thousand at county final yet our home league game this year against cavan had only 5 thousand. seems to be still a certain amount of apathy towards the county team but like i say if the football keeps improving then this could change.

Coalisland clonoe had over 7k and it was only a semi final. Interest there for it. No idea how to get an operation like that up and running though. How to get word out etc.

i see the large flags are banned from hill 16. no harm in gettin to work on an official spirit of oneil flag. will have to be red and white, have spirit of oneill printed on it and possibly an emblem or image  on it.

I'm ordering a 5ft x 5ft waver with the T symbol that's on the Facebook page and it'll hopefully be ready in time for next week. I thought 6 x 6 would be a stretch to be able to wave. Any ideas for a hanging banner?

Don't be writing "Mickey Out!" on it ffs. Your some boyo, you spend all year slagging the manager with personal, vindictive comments on a public forum.....we win a few games....and your heading up the supporters club.

sure why don't you set up a mickey Harte supporters club. See how long that lasts.

Look there's pro-harters and anti-harters and both have good points. Personally I'm pro-harte but I understand why alot of people wouldn't be. This won't be used as a slanging match between the two factions.
I don't think a banner with anything harte would get much use, his contract is up and none of us know for sure what's going to happen next year.

Who's your flavour of the month now with you young STG? Is it still Mattie McGleenan? Cavan people are praying he is given the road! Mickey still the best option available in my opinion.

Aye, but there's a way to go about your criticism with a bit of class and decency which was severely lacking by certain posters. Best of luck with the supporters club RedHand, fair play to you!

To move this away from the Harte in/out discussion which I hear is due to be discussed on Tuesday night,  I think this fan club is excellent.  County Down have this running well and may be worth while touch base with them to get advice.

How do we get involved with this?

I didn't realise Down had a similar thing up and running. I know Mayo have Club 51 and it looks excellent. They have yet to get back to me...

I agree the Harte issue should be discussed here because it's never going to end well, whether you like with him or not it's a fan club, not a county board meeting!

With regards getting involved, the Facebook and Twitter were just set-up this week. All about spreading the word to begin with. I've talked about meetups before match next Saturday etc to get to know everyone and that as well. If we get the numbers then we should set up roles and that for next year for those who are interested (social media, treasurer, organise fund raisers for banners, etc) I could see maybe a supporters bus for away games in the league next year? I know there's enough go to the league games and it's the same faces you see at each game.

Cheers,
Stephen

Down definitely do because I think they had 3 busses to the Ulster Final, Some of the lads in the bar said they came up with the supporters club.  They all got the Rooneys bus so they maybe able assist with contact info.  Seemed to be well run

Why the f**k is mickey Harte the topic of conversation on this thread? Plenty of other places to discuss that. Redhand88 I think we need some more work on the official emblem for flags. Need to nail down a really good one and make it official. No point in rushing it.

That's fine, I'll have a bit of time over the weekend to work on that. Give me suggestions through this or the Facebook. Do you know anyone who does graphic design for a living? I can work Photoshop but I'm by no means an expert.

The flag I have coming isn't an official badge or anything, just a huge T on white and red. But once we get the logo officially sorted we can start getting that on a flag.

I don't.. are you heading from West or East? If East you could give Chambers or JK coaches a ring. They usually have buses going.
