Title: All Ireland Minor Quarter Final - Tír Eoghain v Ros Comáin
Post by: tyrone86 on August 04, 2008, 03:18:39 PM
Saturday @ 3.45 in Pearse Park.

Surely the same mistakes can't be made in the teams line out again?

A chance for our ladeens to redeem themselves after throwing away the Connacht Final.
I would only be hopeful at best as with a few exceptions this years team isn't as good as the 06 or 07 crops.

Surely Shane O'Neill must be on the bench in the venue where he arguable produced the greatest 30 minutes of his (to date) short footballing career.

Should he not be playing in that case ?

Is Mc Nabb back ?

By the way, Longford is a nice central venue for all the teams on Saturday ? Surely Mc Hale Park would have been more central ?  ;)

That would be nice in theory but it's too much to suggest that'll be get starting when he was unable to make the 24 for the last couple of games.

Haven't heard the latest on McNabb yet.

why did they not play this game before the Tyrone v Dublin clash at Croker.
firstly it would have helped get the crowd in early which was a problem the last time these teams met and the game was delayed.
secondly I dont think the Roscommon minors would have had many objections to getting to play in what will be a packed Croke Park. (For most of these boys they will never get that chance again).
Instead the game will be played in Longford in front of a couple of thousand fans - if lucky.

id love to know who makes these crazy decisions..

You could have got a worse fixture.  The Meath v. Tipperary quarter final is in Portlaoise next Saturday with the throw in at 12.30 p.m.   The venue is fine, but the throw in time must be somebody's idea of a joke.

I'm glad it's this weekend rather than having a weekend to twiddle the thumbs before the Dublin game, and as for Longford as a venue, after the way Granard was so highly recommended, by so many, on this board it will be a privilege to visit this fine town   ;)

just to answer your points
1- who cares/ games get changed all the time - in fact the tyrone v dub game was meant to be this weekend
2- the dubs might not come in but most tyrone fans will - this was a problem in 05 it wasnt just dub fans who were late - hard to get into the ground when 50,000 people are entering ten minutes before throw in. (But then Ross fans wouldnt know about that as they dont play in big games at Croker)
3- I am sure the Ross minors would enjoy playing as many games at Croker as possible - would be perfect preparation for any semi final (dont bank on it being played at Croke Park either)
4- Think you will find Tyrone had a fair few big games prior to 2003 - 86 final, 95 final, minor finals in 96/97

I dont really mind where the game is played to be honest. I will be at the game regardless. Just feel that this was a lost opportunity to give these young lads a chance to play at Croke Park in front of a massive crowd. Dont think Tyrone would have had any advantage at all. In fact Id say most of the dublin crowd would have been behind Ros. I also dont think that Ros have any advantage playing in Longford. For most of the Tyrone minor team have already had a great victory at that venue.

Won't the winners have the chance to play in Croke Park?
As for the Dublin crowd - only the usual 5% who are GAA people will be there during the minor.
And then there's me oul' pocket - a 50 mile round trip to Pearse Pk and €10 or even €15 admission compared to a 200+ mile round trip to Dublin and pay maybe €50 admission for a Minor game.

Tyrone minors will bid to make it beyond the All-Ireland quarterfinals on Saturday, but assistant manager Cathal McAneney knows that the Connacht side will provide a stern test.

Many pundits have tipped Tyrone to lift the title this year and although they have defended their Ulster crown in fine style, they still have a lot of work to do.

McAneney acknowledges the fact that Tyrone will have to show a marked improvement from their performances to date, if they are to continue their quest for glory.

"Roscommon are a big side and there was little between them and Mayo in the Connacht final and we know that we will have a tough battle on our hands," said McAneney.

"Any side in the quarterfinal or the All-Ireland is there on merit and hopefully we can learn from our experience last season. Training has been going well and we are looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we will play the football that we are capable of."

I give up. I genuinely can't see what they're trying to do. I can't understand why a forward of Petey Harte's calibre is left at Centre half back when the forward line has, to date, lacked inspiration and a bit of creativity. Ditto Pixie. Even at Wing Back, Pixie is capable of so much more than they're getting out of him in the corner. I can't understand how in the name of Peter that Shane O'Neill isn't on that bench.

As for the positives, at least McNabb's back on the bench.

Is that lad Harney any connection to the Harneys of Pearse Ogs in Armagh? Harney's a rare enough name in Tyrone, and from afar he doesn't look unlike a Harney!

3  Matthew Donnelly  Trí Leac
4  Ronan Tierney  Aireagal Chiaráin

14 Kyle Coney  Árd Bó

If Ronan McNabb is fit then he would replace Sean Warnock at midfield.

Some very interesting selections there alright and I'd agree with a lot of them.

Tyrone minors ease past Roscommon
Tyrone defeated Roscommon 1-15 to 1-8 in Saturday's ESB All-Ireland Minor Football quarter-final at Longford.

Paddy McNeice hit two early points for Tyrone but Darren McDermott's goal then put Roscommon ahead.

However, Paul Coyle hit a Tyrone goal before the break as the young Red Hands led 1-6 to 1-4 at half-time.

Roscommon fought back to lead early in the second half but they then lost injured Darren McDermott and Tyrone hit a succession of points to take control.

Substitute Matthew Donnelly, Ronan Tierney, Niall McKenna and Kyle Coney were among the Tyrone scorers in the second half while centre half-back Peter Harte also had a fine game for the winners.

Tyrone will be Ulster's only representatives in the All-Ireland minor semi-finals after Monaghan suffered a 1-12 to 0-9 defeat against Mayo, after extra-time.

In Saturday's two other quarter-finals, Meath defeated Tipperary 2-9 to 0-10 while Kerry hammered Offaly 4-12 to 0-9.

Tyrone : T Harney; F McQuaid, G Teague, R Rickering; S MacRory, P Harte, K Mossey; N McKenna, S Warnock; C Girvan, D McNulty, M Donnelly; K Coney, P McNeice, C O'Neill.

Kyle Coney got the goal, and what a goal it was too. I can now see the logic to Petey Harte at CHB, he was immense and started a fair number of attacks. Mattie Donnelly was excellent in the 2nd half after being moved to FF. McNeice, Mossey and Tierney all had fine games.

Tierney played very well after coming on as a first half sub for Gavin Teague and he kicked 2 good points. Warnock did ok before he was replaced by McNabb with about 15 minutes left.

Congrats to Tyrone(  :( >:() on a fine win but eight points margin was a bit harsh on our gasúiníns.
After Darren McDermott was injured our forward line virtually became non existant and our attacks were mere solo runs to nowhere.
Tyrone scored some fine points in the closing stages and their attacking pace had us struggling to cope.
Still it was our 4th All Ireland Quarter Final in 5 years(mind you only won 1 of them) a far cry from the early years of this Century when we were a distant 5th in Connacht at Minor level.
Our under age set up beginning to bear results but looking at the Tyronies would suggest we have a bit to go yet.
A lot done but more to do.
