Unless you are in the 'Blues Brothers' then no way. Bow tie all the way.
Na I think arthur likes hen... But he's bein very suspicious, I would say it has to do with the woman being in the irish news the other day!!
Wear the bow tie until the dinner is over and then stick it in your pocket, i hate wearing them myself, but them skinny black ties look like f**k all,
Strongly disagree with above posts- a plain black tie is absolutely fine for a black tie event, unless you're in a right sharp suit and in good shape, I'd avoid the skinny tie, easier to go with the big fat "premiership footballer" number, which works fine when you're a fat bloke like me...
IMO bow tie looks way better, lovely to see a fella dressed up in a suit and bow tie, a skinny black tie just isnt the same! Is it an event you have a date for? If so you could match the colour of the bow tie to her dress rather than just having plain black!

A black tie is fine, but not a 'skinny' black tie. I prefer bow-ties anyway, for formal dinners like that, but avoid the skinny tie at all costs.

Eh, slightly tacky there downgirl, dontcha think? It worked when I was going to a school formal, not so sure in adult life...
Definately not the skinny tie, you may as well stick on a pair of flourescent socks and complete the 80s look. I don't think you'll fit in with the theme of the black tie event and you'll just feel uncomfortable. Fat black tie, maybe. Just wear the bow tie.
I was going to say the pink birthday suit

what was your opening line?
Let me guess:
QuoteThe path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
