Title: "COACHING THE GOALKEEPER" DVD
Post by: Glensman on December 05, 2007, 01:54:49 PM
Meant to be a slick enough production

NORTH ANTRIM LAUNCHES THE "COACHING THE GOALKEEPER" DVD IN THE LEIGHMHOR HOUSE ON FRI 7TH @2PM. 29 November 2007 A DVD produced by the North Antrim Coaching and Development Committee to be used as a coaching aid for goalkeepers from underage to senior level. It is introduced by Shane Elliott and features Shamrocks keeper DD Quinn, Ruairi Ogs Goalie Ronan Kearney, and Ballygalget and Down number one Graham Clarke. The dvd is a very high quality production, shot in Casement Park over the summer, it will give coaches 25 different drills to pick and choose from to put together a session which can also be used for outfield players. It is accepted now in coaching circles that their is a need for specialised goalkeeping drills, this dvd gives club coaches access to this type of specialised information that was not previously available.

Tony Wall wrote a great book on the skills of hurling back in the sixties and a lot of those skills are still relevent today. I can't remember the name of it but I'm sure there's a copy floating about my Da's house somewhere, most hoke it out for a refresher.

I've a copy of Tony Wall's book myself, it is stiil a great book for coaching the basic skills even if it is about 30-40 years old now. Like yourself Johhnycool inherited mine from the old boy.

Young fella, like Johnny Cool would eb reluctant to part with my copy. The Kilkenny County Board had a great handbook developed a couple of years ago by their hurling officer which was given to all their club coaches I think. I got a copy off a guy in Kilkenny, I'm sure if you contacted the Kilkenny county board they would be able to get you a copy. Deals with basic skills, full of great drills and also highlights basic dietary information along with physical fitness etc.

Bought it on Saturday, only watched the first 20 mins so far but IMO its a fairly slick production. Shane is very good as usual on the presentation and Ronan,DD and Graham give a great demonstration of keeper skills. The drills all make sense and a lot of them would apply to all players. In all the teams I've played on I've never seen our goalies do specialised training like this and when I think how ordinary they were, it figures. A must buy for aspiring young keepers and all hurling coaches.

I have just watched the DVD, and i have to admit was very impressed with the professional production. Shane is first class in the coaching role and the three lads were very sharp in the drills, Coaching my own club i believe i could use at least 10 or 12 drills in any coaching session, it did give me ideas. Well done to the crew who put it together, credit were it is due we don't always help ourselves  but i hope it sells well.

I am sure if they were fumbling the ball and letting them in through their legs we would never have seen it, i think its called "editing".......

Was just wondering how sales of the DVd were going?

Any word on the County panel? w**ker would hardly be welcome after his antics last weekend in Cloughmills.
