Title: Irish Goalkeepers
Post by: Leo on December 04, 2007, 05:38:14 PM
Looked at the team sheets for English games at the weekend.
Leaving out Dean Kiely & P Kenny who arent consdiered (for whatever reason) our choice of understudy to Shat Given makes uncomfortable reading with the contenders apparently all in the subs category and getting very few games: among them Doyle, Colgan, Henderson, Supple, Ford.
Joe Murphy at Scunthorpe looks like the only one getting enough games.
Where are the rest?

Produce excessive levels of C02 due to the warming effect it will have?

Dean Kiely isn't considered any more because he's retired from international football I'm pretty sure

Time to reflect on the great Irish goalkeepers of the past.
You think I mean Jennings, Gregg, Alan Kelly (Snr)/
No,  what about the great Paddy Roche. Whatever became of him?
???

Paddy finished out his career in the lower leagues in England.
Man U didn't have to sign him nor did they ever have to play him.
Before he faded out of the International scene, it should be noted that he played his part to the best of his ability in the game that all Irish soccer fans old enough will remember, the 3-0 trashing of the Soviet Union.

My memory is of a guy whose confidence was shot to pieces after one or two howlers and a quick descent down the leagues was his portion. Sad to see any player disintegrate the way he did.
