Did anyone see the progrtamme on BBC about Craigavon. Named after the leader of the Unionist Party it was the flag-ship progrect of the 1960s for Unionist Northern Ireland.
I thought Emerson went easy on it! No surprise there.
Yeah thought it was a good show but when I studied it in school (in Craigavon) the first thing we were taught was that it was in the wrong area place and to be a success it needed to be further north and west, there seemed to be no mention of that
Emerson came across as a real smug wee p***k, moreso even than he ever did whilst posting on this board. That is an achievement.
who was that guy Emerson? and is he one of us?

Is he an ex-poster Sam? The thing that i find about him in his various columns is he always slags the Shinners then the DUP, thus not being accused of being biased or heaven forbid actually have a political leaning.
did the eye of newt post here?
Looks like we're all about to get the Craigavon education system (Dixon Plan).
How come Craigavon has a different education system from the rest of the north?
The new city required a radical new system of education to cope with the expected large influx of people.

You do know you can have a political leaning between extremes?

Sorry i should have elaborated, every party usually gets a touch. In conclusion, i think he is a p*ick.

Fair enough ;D
i watched this show last night too. at the end of it the first thing i thought was...
is that it? why didnt they go on to show what it is really like now?
lets be fair lads... the vast majority of it is a dump. no point painting a rosie picture!

I think the point was to show the
lost city, i.e. the one that was meant to be, as opposed to the one we were left with.
fair enough Donagh but during the conclusion of the show they tried to paint a rosie picture of what craigavon is now, even though it didnt go to plan and was lost.
I spent six weeks of the summer of 1980 in Craigavon staying with cousins and I have never recovered from my experience... but I did learn to appreciate being a Dungannon man...

Cousins in Craigavon and you're from Dungannon, you're not Portuguese by any chance?
So who was (is?) the bould Newt on here?
Never mind Craigavon, some one needs to do something about Lurgan itself. The town is dying on its feet...shopping is a joke, nothing but pound and bargain shops whereas Craigavon Shopping Centre is pulling in all of the big chain stores like Next, Debenhams, Jack & Jones, Starbucks etc. etc. It has done Lurgan town centre some damage in the last few years.
There also appears to be alot more investment into Portadown town centre than in Lurgan!
Craigavion and Lurgan are 2 Shite holes! FACT!

Craigavon has always welcomed new residents from strange and far off lands. Some of the Vietnamese "boat people" settled there in the 1970s. Poles, Russians, Timorese, Portugese, Latvians and Travellers have all settled in the area. A family from Keady was even made very welcome in the 1980s.
whoever thought that this plan could have been successful must have been high as a kite.
Rushmere's dead on, but as Balladmaker says, Lurgan town centre shops are shite. (unless your a spide who love striped hoodies)

I think he was outed as Newton Emerson. Or maybe I am getting mixed up with someone else.
Lurgan is a hole, and it has arguably the worst 'Nighclub' in Northern Ireland - the Ashburn!

Was Uladh not the boyo who used to stalk ONeill?
He went too close.
Oddly, though, he has been logging in, as recent as 2 days ago....
Was over at Rushmere today, the police were directing traffic at the big roundabout near the shopping centre and one side of the Lake Road was closed off. Forensics men all over the place and they were cutting off railings from the bridge above the road.
Heard a few rumours about what happened but nothing online, anyone know anything?
I heard someone was stabbed and thrown over the bridge for what it is worth.

Heard the same myself but no names as of yet
Man in critical condition in hospital after Craigavon assaultA 36-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being assaulted in Craigavon.
He was found lying injured near a roundabout on the Lake Road shortly after 0300 GMT on Thursday.
The man was taken by ambulance to the Craigavon Area Hospital. He has now been transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Detectives have appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed the assault.
I heard that myself. A fall out amongst dealers is what I heard.

Close - 'the hole with the roundabouts' is a better translation, allowing for local dialect, etc
I saw the thread name and I thought it had been mis-laid.
No such luck its still f@[{1ng there. >:( :(
Maybe it means "city of the people who get lost on the roundabouts".
I remember being at a Scór in St Anthony's Hall in Craigavon years ago and half the teams showed up late because everyone was getting lost on the roundabouts because there's so many of them.
That problem has been solved. On the front road {main road} roundabouts are numbered, and on the back road they are lettered, now what could be easier? ;D
I could never remember the numbers or letters of them. Don't they have names now?
Ah geez, I never realised the Newt posted on here. I met him once at my local paper shop and I congratulated him on doing a good job. His job is to poke fun at politicans, and say what everyone else is afarid to say.
Is Newton (a St Killicomaine High School old boy) the one and only example of the Dickson system actually working?
The only names they have are local names eg Pinebank or Moylinn,or the Lakes etc. They are numbered 1---------7 and A----------E.
Orior who is the newt?
