Title: Internet bullying
Post by: his holiness nb on December 02, 2007, 11:32:43 AM
If you read the "f*cking insane" thread I beleive that snowed under is orchestrating a vicious campaign of internet bullying towards me.
Every post is replied to with and insult or slur on my personal life.
I'd be interested to hear who agrees or disagrees.
Yes I could ignore it, but thats not the point.
Am I overeacting?
Maybe a proper definition of internet bullying would be helpful.
I have no doubt the mods will just tell us both to stop bickering, but this is more than bickering from his side.
I just thought I should post this in case I get banned for this thread.
Note I am not saying anything insulting about the guy, but this persistant abuse is getting out of hand.

Its easy for him to do this online and I have no doubt he would dare say the things he does to my face, but its getting really tiresome as I am sure it is for most people who read threads he gets insulting on.

Previously the same guy pestered me so much that I took a break from the site for a few months.
I enjoy this site, and dont want to be put in the position of either staying away or being abused every time I log on.

Anyway rant over, and no doubt this will be replied to with further insults from the same guy.

This isn't going to help.

What would this do?
Would it only refer to personal messages?

Ask Admin or mod or who ever to issue a warning. Like a yellow card.

Out of curiousity I read the thread. I'll never forgive you for that  :)
Rule of thumb is, as soon as you get posters correcting spelling mistakes and thinking it's a smart thing, run like mad away from the thread.

Follow procedures, either ignore it or report it.

Agree I should ignore, but I'm a fecker for getting annoyed when someone posts presumptions about my personal life for all on the board to read.

Is it the  bullying that annoys you or the presumtions about your private life that annoy you.

Bullying is supposed to be cruel to provoke a reaction.
It says a lot about the pathetic life of the bully.
The reaction they hate is being ignored. Bugs them no end.

Does no one else see the ironing in Snowed Under continually ranting on about 'internet warriors' when it is blatently obvious that he is one himself? Who was he before he got banned?

On reading back over snowed under posts its seems his out to wind up other posters.  Most of his posts are a dig at someone, sure there is a tread about him and pints.  When i joined the board i presumed that it would be a good debating site about gaa and other issues with poster with a bit of common sense, not a slagging match with cheap shots at other posters.

When treads go off line and it starts to get personnel,  yes its bullying.

Unless you have something positive to say snowed under, say nothing.

Agreed.
The mistake you made imho holiness is you started trying to prove him wrong when he came out with some personal insult. Your attempts to do this (happily married, play ball, socialise, etc) then provided more ammunition to him thus frustrating you even more.
Let him say what he likes - sure no one else is going to play a blind bit of notice. He was looking for someone to wind up - you replied provding the bait and then it took off.

I voted No on the under thread, I think a lot of people, unless they've been on the receiving end of constant sniping from a particular poster, will think you are overreacting.  Another established poster here did exactly the same thing to me when I first joined the board so I know it's annoying.

Bullies are insecure people and it probably makes him feel better to come on here, pointing out he's only on here because he's working as he's got this mad social life no doubt, and call other people pathetic.

I don't think you should start explaining yourself to anyone and I don't know why anyone would care what you do with your free time.

My last post and i'll be off; God lifes too short - Pints is good for an argument, I don't think I ever had the last word - His Holiness obviously takes this stuff very serious, to heart by the sounds of it, I can find other ways of occupying myself when long jobs are running.

By the way as a footnote I seriously doubt you can bully a Pseudonym.

And a further footnote ............

Am I the only one that thinks that some of these threads are a bit far fetched? I mean snowed under can be a right arsehole, but this may be an over reaction.

I see that, but its just as daft as this thread and a couple of others. Arent we all (for the most part) grown men here?

most people are grown men, and most on here want to discuss, argue and have a bit of banter.
HHN feels that snowed under is simply insulting him every chance, to the detriment of his and other usage of the site - which is fair enough, id agree with him in this case.

Snowed under has insulted most people that he has engaged with on here. HNN made a mistake in giving the guy credence and even responding to him after his first couple of insults. Hopefully it will all stop now, as you are right about one thing; it was to the detriment of the site and the other users.

If all Snowed Under can do is insult people and bring down the tone of the forum then he should be reported to the moderators and banned.

Snowed had a couple of goes at me when he first joined. I never give him the satisfation of replying. He quickly got bored and moved onto someone else.

Ok have read the replies and I do agree I should have ingnored the guy.

I'll lock the thread at this stage so as not to provoke further arguments.
