Title: NFL 2007-2008
Post by: thejuice on August 20, 2007, 11:07:05 AM
So who you reckon will land the Vince Lombardi trophy this year. Which rookie will impress, which of last years Rookies will hold a starting position. Which team will improve the most. Who'll get worse. heres a few of my thoughts.

Indy will get to play-offs but no Superbowl, Pats my favs to once again to will it all again. Calvin Johnson and the Lions to finally start going somewhere. Reggie bush to develop into a NFL suited player. Saints to reach play offs again. Falcons to have an awful year, Miami to get worse. The Raiders?? probably. Chargers could also go all the way.

Thats all for now, stay tuned.

Patriots will probably win it all with the addition of Moss, as long as he does not act the maggot. Indy havent really addressed their Defence in off season. San Diego will not be too far away if LT keeps up his usual numbers & Rivers will be a year older/wiser.

Providing Brees can stay fit Saints will have another huge year.
Pats V Saints super bowl for me.

If LT succumbs to the Madden curse the Chargers are goosed.

What about the Bears? I see they're going to be using Devin Hester as a wide receiver this year. Could be interesting. Obviously Rex will need to get the finger out too.

Looking forward to seeing the Saints this year....Peyton a year older and wiser, and he wasnt too bad a coach last year either! Thought they were great to watch last year with McAllister, Colston and Bush. Could be a surprise packet.........Whats the craic with Michael Strahan at Giants - has he resigned for another year???

Every one is talking about the Pats, but  I feel the Chargers will have another great year, winning the division and eventually making the Superbowl though I really hope they dont.  I'm really interested in watching the Saints this year, maybe an outside bet to reach the Superbowl.

Of all teams I'd really hate to be a Falcons fan at this stage, they are screwed without Vick, who will hopfully get what he deserves at this stage.

Da Bears 148 vs Anyone Else -31 in the SuperBowl

Its a toss up between Chargers, Bears, Colts, Saints, Pats and the Big Sleeper St.Loius.

Only injuries and 17 weeks will tell.

I thought it was Shaun Alexander?? I heard LT turned down the cover of Madden 08 not wanting to tempt fate.

'08 is Vince Young.

Once you figure out the rules and the basic strategy thats involved, i think it makes people realise what a great sport it is. Madden on the Sega Megadrive was what got me hooked on NFL. Cant remember what one it was but it was the first one to have commentating, by that i mean John Madden would shout TouchDown!!! and Incomplete!! and That was a Zinger!! at the appropriate moment.

Micheal Vick is a complete tool. If your the highest paid player in the whole league, can you not find something legal to amuse yourself, Christ sake. his careers over, Matt Schuab come back please. I am a falcons fan, and in one off season ive totally lost hope for any kind of success in the next 10 years. we could be the new Detroit Lions.

Brady Quinn will get a fair bit of game time i think, because i can see him being thrust into it. especially in the later half of the season.

How about "Gods favourite team" the Dallas Cowboys, what you reckon. With Tony "the homo" Romo i think they can have an awesome season, just need something at RB to be really effective.

I doubt Vick must have "Tyson Syndrome", plenty of bastards willing to spend his money for him, i can understand if you lived in Dungannon  ;) and were doing a bit of dogfighting but this man is a multi millionaire for christ sake. He was over rated anyway, a running back in a quarterbacks body.

To be fair he could throw a ball through a brick wall, not that it would win you any games but he might have a future in the circus after he gets out of jail.

The only thing Vick ever successfully passed was herpes.

All right lads we are under way and already some big talking points.  Kevin Everett suffering a tragic injury and his career surely over, lets just hope that he will be able to walk again.  Also the Pats seem to be in the news at the moment and could lose their first draft pick for next season after the wholing spying on the other team.

A great week in the NFL has been overcast by the sad news of Kevin Everett.

I think anyone who plays football, it really brings you down to earth when you see these things happen. I love football and i always want to go out and hit hard and have fun, Stuff like this really makes you take stock of the commitments and the risks involved in playing football. I think of all the times i've had hard hits or got flipped or the helmet to helmet collisons which arent always avoidable, I just feel lucky to have my health. The injuries i have suffered still pain me to this day but compared to what Kevin Everett is going through I wont complain. Best wishes to a brother in the fellowship of gridiron players, and all sports men and women who play high contact sports who put their bodies on the line in the sports that they love. Pray for a speedy recovery, and i hope that kevin makes a full recovery.

Some good games. Hard to argue with your picks galwaybhoy. Although I like the new look Detroit Lions and I think they can beat the Vikes at home in Ford Field. Pats against the chargers is going to be great. Hard to pick a winner, think i'll just sick back and watch it unfold. LT is fantastic, but i feel Rivers isnt a great QB. Brady and Moss are looking like a solid partnership and can strike deep. Both Defences were good in week 1. im not making a prediction.

Anyway. Romo and TO, Whitten at al are doing well moving the ball but the run game isnt working. havent seen the phins on the ball yet.

I watched the Indy v Titans game earlier but the missus is refusing to hand over the remote for 6 hrs. I noticed that last week when i went interactive, for some reason they cant show the ads so you just get a load of cheerleaders with their tits hanging out..... What about them Browns, Brady who?

After the final today, the nfl 2008 seems a long way away. Im sure a lot of counties will be back in training pretty soon in preperation. Dont think Donegal will put as much effort into it as this year. What does anyone else think of the new structure? The one good thing now is you can now meet any team in Ireland in the league. Previoulsy for example Tyrone and Armagh couldnt play.

New England up 14 - 0.
I liked that touchdown (2nd one) but what happens during the adverts that follow?
A recovered ball, they go mad again ??? ??? ???
They are huge big lads. One of them (plays for the chargers and blocks the lad who throws it between his legs) looks pregnant or he has been on the beer and burgers for 20 years!

Yes, big williams is a monster. Its a balls with all the stoppages, but it gives you more time down the pub away from the mrs. almost 3 hours worth.
Its a big deal because they blow shit up to be a "great play" anytime anything happens (even in soccer too, a half decent sliding tackle is replayed over and over again and blown up to be a "great play"
My take on why they get so excited is because its all they get to do. If you were a player who only ever played defense, you might get pretty excited yourself.

btw, tyrone dreamer getting lost was pretty funny.

They have no offence. Shouldnt have let Thomas Jones go.
They are relying on big defence plays of the brilliance of Hester to bail them out.
Will be found out this year unless they make a drastic change.
Title: Re: NFL 2007-2008
Post by: magpie seanie on September 17, 2007, 12:49:27 PM
Letting Jones go was very strange. Benson has potential but Jones was consistently doing the hard yards. Apparently they didn't like each other. If I was a coach I'd use that to my advantage. Benson was better yesterday but I'm still to be convinced.

On the other hand Hester is just a phenomenon. They have to get him more involved in the offence. Screen passes and the like - he could be a serious weapon and you'd think even Grossman could manage those short passes.

If anythnig the Defence is actually better again this year. Look to be getting after QB's a bit better but they're going to suffer like last year with having to be on the field so much.

Bengals @ Seahawks
Panthers @ Falcons
Giants @ Redskins
Cowboys @ Bears
Titans @ Saints

Anyone watching tonights matches on Sky?  I'm looking forward to Jags @ Broncos, its the second red button game.  Should be another victory for Denver, but with two tight wins against two very poor teams in their first two games its not a sure victory for them.
