...as opposed to the thread on players who you don't like.....which ones are admired by the people on here....
To start off I'd say nobody would have anything bad to say about Mickey Linden, Maurice Fitzgerald or Séamus Moynihan
Plunket Donaghy, PJ Quinn, Micky Murphy and Enda Muldoon.
Sean Cavanagh, Sean Marty Lockhart, Tohill.
Muldoon??? Nearly there but a few recent antic's have set him back!!
Brian 'Beano' McDonald
Joe Higgins
Francie Bellew
Francie Bellew, Eamonn O'Hara, Barry Owens, Marty McGrath, Declan Browne, Ronan Clarke, Shane Ryan, Brian McGuigan
Colm Corkery, Dermot Earley jr, Dermot McCabe,
I agree with Hardstation, Damian Fitzhenry and Joe Deane I have never herd a bad word said about these too, especially Damian Fitzhenry.
Ger Houlihan
Paul Clarke
Lads, I think you should only nominate players outside your own county.

Do you not admire anyone from Laois in Hurling AZ?
James Young maybe?
Good point LaoisLad, I do as a matter of fact. And Darren Rooney as well for his commitment to dual codes. The list is not exhaustive. I like Andrew Mitchel from Westmeath as well.
maurice fitzgerald in his day, no messin with him just a class man.David heaney, james nallen, daragh o se, padraig joyce and peter canavan were in the same mould and always would be the kind of player i would like to have been only for the fact that i was useless.
Ciaran mac is another classy player, no dirt except when the aussie dickheads attacked him and he leathered back into them but was beaten and still stood up and played, tries his best as well as being a good ambassador for the game where kids are concerned.
In hurling i know damn all but think dj carey was a great player with great attitude.
Was never a fan of McGeeney and Steven McDonnell, though always respected them. Though became a fan after the two of them stood up for the Irish in Croke Park last year against the Aussie bastards, never forget McGeeney rolling your man on the ground into a headlock, brute strength

Tony and Manus Boyle were very handy forwards and McEniff was supposed to be handy back in the 70's.

QuoteBit too young to be remembering him. And looking at those results I would be only giving out about him! lol
He is involved with the Blues this year with E Judge
Originally from our club and came back to us in the early 90's for a couple of years.
Scored 6 from play for us in a county semi final in '94 against what would have been our bitterest rivals at the time. We lost the final though.
For someone to be universally liked/admired surely everyone has to like/admire them?
Of those listed i only like/admire mo fitz. that rules the rest out.
QuoteJasysus Dinny, Paul Galvin, he is a filthy hoor!
You'd still love him in a Kildare Jersey, always have a soft spot for players with a bit of a an edge in him....

Oh yeah, Johnny Doyle and Dermot Earley, defo. I always liked Liam Doyle from the Clare hurlers, as well as Sean McMahon and the Lohans. Also Geoffrey McGonigle.
How can anybody say Galvin is universally liked/admired?
The f**ker is hated!
QuoteRory Woods
I actually like Woods too. Rough against Derry but was sticking up for team mates more than anything. Have played against him in both hurling and football and he never pulled a dirty stroke, first man to shake your hand after the match.
A nephew of Nudie, another good man for the chubby team...
He's more husky than chubby.

But in a Kildare jersey he'd never finish a game and would end up with a 15 year ban before the end of his first season!!!!!!!!

Hurling - Sean Og O hAilpin, Damian Fitzhenry, Henry Shefflin, Joe Deane, Sambo Mc Naughton.
Are you for real Hardstation?
Yes and it's hardstation to you. Apart from whacking some Ballycastle boy (who said bold things about his family) over the head in a club game, he is the only hurling player in Ulster that I would rate as being up there with the best of them and a gentleman at the same time.
Why do you disagree?
He refused you service in his pub because you are only 16. Ahh, now i get it. ::)
You are entitled to your opinion, in my opinion and, a fair few ones in Cushendall, he wasnt even the best player in that great Cushendall/Antrim half back line of James Mc Naughton/Leonard Mc Keegan/ Sambo. But none of those courted the publicity/celebrity status the way Sambo did.Put it like this if he ever released another "autobiography" a good title would be "The Ego has landed"........
The unsung hero that is Alan Molloy (In Down anyway).
From the West -
Mayo - James Nallen (man is a pure legend)
Galway - Ja Fallon
Leitrim - Maxwell
Sligo - I suppose all the current team!
And finally my own team the Rossies - Stephen Lohan - ok he wasnt around this year but is a pure gentlman and well liked by all . Tony McManus - not many could say a bad word against him..
Has Nallen the record for the number of non winning all Ireland final appearances - by my count - 5.
