Title: bleep bleep
Post by: irunthev on November 24, 2006, 01:16:53 PM
Was involved in some fitness testing last night and although there was nothing that spectacular among our modest crew I was wondering if any one has any amazing stories of endurance to recount on the bleep test.

Different versions of the tape, some go to level 20 and some go to 16 I think.
WHen we were doing it, our trainer told us that Roy Keane was the only soccer player to finish to the end.

THey are a killer though, it is the stopping, turning and trying to get up to speed that is the real killer - deep burn in the thighs!

For someone who's never done it what does it entail???

Cones set about 20 yards apart..... in a line across players run back and forth to each cone to the sound of the beep and must reach the other side before the next beep...It gets quicker and quicker as you go on.....
as the claw said the turn is a killer...

In my day training consisted of 10 laps of the field, a few sprints, 100 sits ups, 100 push ups, a game of backs and forwards and a scelp of pints on the way home. Its gone fierce high tech nowadays.

So does the 110 mean u reached a cone 110 times???

yes thats exactly what it means...
The first 60/70 are gfairly easy just at a normal jogging pace increasing gradually..... then as you get closer to 100 you're nearly breaking into sprints just to reach the mark.
Most ive seen done is 140 by one of my clubmates......

Apparently the former All Black Michael Jones was able to reach level 19 in his prime, imagine trying to run after that fcuker all day.

don't think it would be 190, as far as I know when you are talking level 19 its the minute in which you finish, obviously in the first minute you are doing far less runs than the 19th....

As far as i know there are a few variations of the test - did around 130 in last year of  school once - did level 13 two years ago.  Dont know which was better, all i know is i could not walk for about ten minutes and could not speak for about 20 mins after each of them. Its a killer cos no matter how fit you are it should effect everyone the same.

thats a link to setting up the bleep test. the problem with alot of people dong the bleep test is that the gym is not 20m long where they are doing it and so  they are not getting a true reflection of their fitness.
I saw somewhere though that a 15m version of the test is available

Done a bleep test on a saturday morning after the college formal the night before,

The majority of us hadnt been home and turned up in tuxs. The two managers werent best pleased since we had a mcrory quarterfinal the following saturday. Probably the worse experience ever of doing the bleep test

My god a 15m version of it would be torture. At least with the 20m you can get going a bit to make up for the time it takes to turn but with 15m you would be stopping, accelerating, stopping accelerating :'(

Isn't there 12 beeps in each level?

Just downloaded a beep test mp3 and can confirm that there are 12 shuttles per level. So multiply by 12 people. Youre actually fitter than you thought

No harm to you but I hope you aren't planning on listening to it on the ipod all the way through.
